I’d like to fill you in on my hot weekend of SL naughtiness..but alas, there is absolutely nothing to report. I’ve done nada, nuffink, nil in world this weekend. Well, that’s not actually true..I was sent to cover a story for ‘The Avastar’ but it turned out there was a mix-up and the event actually took place almost a month ago..so there’s me wandering around the sim like a fart wondering where everyone was and no wonder! I know we can fly in SL, but so far there isn’t a time travel facility, but I’m hoping that’ll be on the next release! I used my Mysti-tool to scan the sim and I wouldn’t have done that had I not attended the class last week, so it just shows that I’ve managed to retain some information in my pea sized brain! I was surprisingly restrained when it came to shopping as well over the weekend. That is until a notecard dropped into my inv from Goldielocks, and I saw the ‘Ophelia’ hairstyle….OMG utterly fabulous!!! Think Amy Winehouse meets Bet Lynch and you’ll understand the enormity of this hairstyle…it ROCKS. It would also make fabulous wedding hair, should you be so inclined……Anyway, the pictures of me modelling Ophelia in black are there for you all to see on my flickr to the right…..no excuses, go and buy it!
Interesting evening last night, a real mishmash of stuff. First off, I went over to the ‘Urbis’ sim to see an exhibition about that sadly missed palace of Madchester, The Hacienda. I was looking forward to it immensely because Sasha was supposedly doing a live set at the real Urbis concurrently and this was going to be streamed into a replica club. I simply adore Sasha. (‘Xpander’ is one of my fave club tunes of all time) Alas, either the dates were wrong or it just didn’t work, because there was no stream and no show. I was there for well over an hour, along with a few other avi’s who turned up for the event. Whilst I was hanging around waiting I got hassled by an utter idiot. I think I’ve been lucky in world because I haven’t really been griefed as much as some of my friends, who have really suffered. This chap was just plain rude. I say chap- I have no idea what ‘it’ actually was…a huge round type of ogre with no facial features and pink hair. I think it was someone’s lame attempt at making some sort of beast, but it actually resembled a somewhat deformed Eddie Large ( 80′s comedian in the UK) Straight away I noted said idiot had only been in game 3 days…and it explained *such* a lot. Cue a torrent of abuse ( “I’m just going to call you ‘My bitch’ WTF?” Are you 8 years old or something?) I finally had enough and left for pastures new…and found myself at aclass run by Mystical Cookie on getting the best out of ‘Mysti-tool’. Now before you get excited, said tool is not a pervy porn but is a must have item, and has achieved an almost cult-like status in world. It’s a HUD filled with a huge array of wonderfully useful things, from bug scanners to pose stands to emotes. Mystical Cookie, the creator, is *gorgeous* as well-a genuinely attractive avatar and a really nice helpful person. She’s also obviously uber-brainy, and explained the features concisely and patiently. She coped really well with loads of interruptions and questions from her audience, and I learned LOADS. I’ll be playing with some of the tools later, I’m sure. It’s a hugely worthwhile investment, not only because of the vast array of goodies the hud holds, but also because she upgrades it on a relatively regular basis for FREE. Before I realised it almost 2 hours had passed, and my brain was starting to ache with talk of scripting, something my head refuses to figure out.So I rounded off the eveiing at Moonshadow doing exactly what I had planned in the first place..dancing like a maniac. Only it wasn’t Sasha, it was DJ Jenns – a different DJ with a different style, but he raved us up as well as any superstar DJ!
Now, you’d be forgiven for thinking that my Second Life is spent shopping for clothes, posing for pictures or chucking a mental down at the-pub-that-I’ve-promised not-to-mention but hey, there is actually more to it than that! Granted, not much.. but I do try to add some substance to my daily adventures. Now, this is a bit of a shameless plug but as you’re probably aware I have an island for hire, so I spend a lot of time attempting to landscape and generally making it look very pretty. I’m not a scripter or builder so I use bought structures and nice things to make the Island look beautiful and I’m rather proud to say it does indeed look very lovely.
It’s actually a very daunting prospect having a large island space to fill, but it’s been a lot of fun making it look as windswept and interesting as I can. I’ve invested a lot of time and Lindens into it..now all I need are the punters!
And herein lies the rub..people think it’s really easy to establish a business in SL for some reason. The press hasn’t helped, a lot of newspapers and magazines have fuelled this perception and run features about making shed loads of dough in our world but not highlighted the pitfalls. For every Anshe Chung there’s a hundred less successful, yet equally hard working entrepreneurs. Then again, why do we assume that because it’s Second Life it will be easier? The mere fact that this is a virtual world should make people realise that it’s going to be more difficult. And yet more peeps flood the grid on a daily basis, looking for ways to exploit this supposed cash-cow. The harsh fact remains: an in-world business is not the same as a real world business, no matter how you package it. Even applying commonly used real life business models to Second Life does not guarantee you success. In the future I’m sure it will be easier to achieve, but for now (however much you’re tempted) unless you have financial backing and many hours to dedicate to the task, don’t even give it a second thought.
I promise I’m going to lay off blogging the 3L for a while after today..you’d think I did absolutely nothing with my time in world except loiter there…ok, that’s MOSTLY true, but today was very special. It’s a year since this hallowed ground appeared in SL and the world is a much better place for it. I was introduced to 3L after a few days in game, and I’ve never stopped loving it since. It’s a true traditional Brit pub in every sense of the word ( without the gobby chavs who end up having a fight at the end of an evening) and the people there are friendly, caring and some of the best I have ever met in-game or out.
They make you smile, make you laugh, make you cringe, make you barf..but most of all they make you feel WELCOME
So, here’s a huge happy birthday wish from me, to all my buddies down on Bourton. Here’s to many more birthdays to come!
And now, a picture of Whoosh dressed as a ladybird….
Now stoppit..stop laughing! Contrary to popular belief I am a somewhat cultured Kitty..( yes I know I always get them to play ‘The Floral dance’ in 3L but hey..nobody said I was perfect!) and tonight I popped over to the Rivers Run Red sim to see ‘No Maps for These Territories’ which is all about William Gibson. It was an assignment (my first) but I enjoyed it very much. The film itself is a very art-house documentary..rather nifty editing and imagery illuminates Gibsons musings as he drives around in a limousine. But be warned-it is hard work at 90 minutes, but rewarding nonetheless if you are a fan of the guy who gave us Cyberspace. (In fact, I wonder if I’d be blogging like this if it wasn’t for Mr Gibson?) After my cultural retreat from the norm I came back down to earth with a huge bump and went to the pub where I boogied all night to DJ Forever Delaid. I then met up with my chum SullyBaby Gomez. She’s a fashion designer, heavily inspired by Haute Couture and all things Chanel. Here’s a piccy of me in one of her creations,’Miss Madge’ in honour of Mrs Guy Ritchie herself.
Yes, that IS a riding crop.
So, it was a busy night for this lil Kitty, a bit of reporting, a bit of boogying and a bit of the ol’ avant-garde…LOVE IT!
Ok, first things first- Frangipani Designs are literally GIVING AWAY the nicest bob hairstyle in every single colour you could possibly imagine or need. EVER. It’s called ‘Bavaresi’ and it costs just 1 linden!! WOO HOOO! Go buy it or else you will really regret it..trust me on this one:)
Anyway, once I’d finished with the hair frolics, I hopped over the to 3L. Alas, I was too late for Thumper Boucher’s set, however I caught the last track and he was FANTASTIC, so I can’t wait to see him again. Plus he was an uber nice bloke and girls, he is as they say..’The Hotness!’ 3L quickly degenerated into it’s usual random madness, with a half hour or so of frenetic ‘see who has the maddest avatar’ session. The piccies will all be uploaded onto my Flickr for you to peruse at your leisure. Oh, and Bailey Dazy was on TOP humping form, as per usual….you can’t take that girl anywhere!
( Depeche Mode reference there, they get you to wave your arms about like a loon to this particular song when you attend their gigs:)…and funnily enough- I’ve just been waving my arms around like a loon at the 3L. Nothing unusual there then, except we were celebrating the dismissal of a rather naive newb. Clarissa was chuffed to pieces..the newb had revealed themselves to be 13 years old. One word, and that is…’Durrrrrrr’
So Clarissa supplied the moves, and we all ended up waving our arms around like a bad Rod Stewart video. I love 3L!
Morning! It’s a lovely, sunny, COLD day here in the UK. (And my cat has just come in with a slug stuck to her bottom, which was nice) BUT FEAR NOT DEAR READERS! For I have just the thing to put a smile on your face if you can’t get tickets to see the latest ‘Harry Potter’ because of all the screaming brats who got there first:)
Last night I launched my Kittywitchin’ group with a promise of a perk for my members, and I’m happy to sat that ‘the perk’ is all up and ready to go! It’s a platform in the sky with a nice comfy sofa and 4, yes 4!! photo studios for you to play with:) I’m not going to tell you what they are actually, because that’ll spoil all the fun, but I hope you’ll like using them.
You’ll probably see me up there actually taking pictures myself ( Where else will I be able to do it? LOL)
I’ll add more stuff to it as I go along, posing stands etc..but I was eager to share!! Now then, be warned…I know I’m NOT a newbie but I do struggle sometimes with permissions etc, so- if there are any issues please IM me and I’ll fix them asap…
( Oh and a final note…yes, there is a tip jar. No I’m not scrounging or being completely mercenary, but I am skint-so any donations are truly appreciated. And all the dosh gets recycled in-game anyway:)
Second day on the trot I’m mentioning LAST CALL, but this time it’s to say how excited I am that they have a HUGE sale on, and I can’t wait to go on a spending spree! I must admit am a tad worried that I may have the majority of items in the sale already, but it’s defo worth checking out for accessories etc I think my recommendations to newbies who want quality items is to always check out Frangipani and Last Call first of all…they are my uber fave stores. Then again, I’m finding new places all the time so who knows how long they will remain at the top of the list before they are usurped?( And of course there is the issue of seeing the outfit that you’re wearing on countless other avis in the same sim..even ones of the opposite sex!)
You may not be aware of this but I actually have a Kittywitchin’ group and I’d very much like to invite you to join it, not least because I will be treating members to tokens of my esteem, but also because I’m going to be making my photo studio available for all members to use, free of charge. ( Although tips are always appreciated, natch!) There’ll be a number of photo studios to choose from, including a photosphere with many nice backgrounds and the Picture Perfect modelling studio. If you’re thinking of buying a studio, I’d use this perk to your advantage as you can try before you buy.
Oh, and they’re all really easy to use…because if they weren’t, well, I wouldn’t be using them:)
And one FINAL note..keep your eyes peeled for …http://www.kittywitchin.com which is going to be the new location for this blog very very soon:) ( Well, as soon as I’ve worked out how to do it!)
‘Last Call’, that fabulous boutique of SL fashion, has announced a rather great competition! You have to submit photos wearing their clothes ( which is certainly no hardship) and a ‘Celestial’ skin to be eligible for entry, with the winner receiving not only shedloads of publicity but L$20000 into the bargain as well! WOOT!
For a few minutes I was hugely excited by this news. I even started planning my shots and outfit choices in my head…and then I realised, I can’t possibly enter:(
I don’t own a Celestial skin.
Now, before you suggest the obvious, I did consider buying one but thought again, because if I did that, well-it just wouldn’t be ‘me’, Kitty, anymore would it?
Ok, at a base level Kitty is no more than a shape called Joellyn, and a skin called Paris. Add some Lapis Lazuli eyes by Wiccan Soujourner and you have, well, me:)
But there is so much more to her than that. I would go so far as to say like a lot of people in-world I really love my avatar. She/ me is more than just a collection of skin, shape, hair and clothes items. She has her own personality, friends…she’s an extension of myself.
I am so attached to her/my appearance now that If I changed it for a competition I’d almost feel like I was betraying the Kitty I’ve come to love.
And even though I’m sorely tempted to enter the competition ( anything for L$20000) I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
It’s just like Bagpuss…a saggy cloth cat, loose at the seams….but Emily loved him:)
