So I retire to bed alongside my beloved last night-his book of choice being ‘The Making of Star Wars’, mine being the ‘Second Life Virtual Tourist Guide’. As I snuggle under the duvet the git leans over and whispers lovingly, “Blue Mars is gonna whoop Second Life’s arse”. (What you thought he was going to say something romantic? LOL) Of course this made me a teensy weensy bit cross, so much so that it was tempting to let out a cheek wobbler whilst in a loving embrace, but I held fast. I’ve just had a look, and Blue Mars does indeed look very good, and I wonder how the Lindens feel about this potential threat? What do you think?
Hmmm, Blue Mars isn’t exactly like SL now… Firstly, as they’ve pointed out, it’s gonna take Deep Thought or a PC of equal magnitude to do it justice and actually run the program, so that’ll put it out of a LOT of people’s reach…
Secondly, it’s actually a game, wheras SL isn’t. There is a BIG difference there.
Thirdly, unlike SL, Blue Mars isn’t resident lead, meaning that the environment won’t be created by those who use it, more the megaconglomerate corporations who want to sell you virtual crap to go with the real stuff you have. Very rarely in SL do you actually deal with the Megacorp mentality (unless you deal with Anshe Chung), so again, SL gets the win there in my eyes too…
I don’t want to play a game that has more linear play, sparkly consumerwhore content and requires £4000 of PC to even look remotely pretty… I’ll stick with SL, where my friends are.
I agree:) However as I was reading this out loud to Jezmond he just grinned and pointed at his beast..no, not his penis, his brand spanking shiny PC that he’s just built and he thinks would run BM very well…..Like you though, I’m happiest here. Besides, by the time it gets going we’ll have handbags like that in SL!! Woot!
I’m about to buy £2,500 worth of PC, it’ll make SL run as sweet as it possibly can from my end, so Blue Mars can go and get stuffed. I like the fact that I can create MY content in SL, not be dictated to about who I spend my hard earned moolah with…
Besides, as well as not having control over content, Blue Mars isn’t the same as SL anyway and I couldn’t do nearly half the things I can in SL, like own a club etc.
Jezmond’s PC was just over that amount and it is *STUNNING*. It’s HUGE, gorgeous aluminium thing with a whisper quiet fan, as well as all the gizmos inside. He was running Crysis and ‘Call of Duty 4′ on it and they were practically cinematic:)
Kitty O'Toole, aka 'Kittywitch', is a resident of 'Second Life' and has been living in the metaverse since 30/12/2006. She has worked as a reporter for 'The Avastar', but these days most of her in-world time is spent writing this blog, modelling and being rather uncouth in public. She is partnered in RL and SL to her long-suffering, Goblin twatting fella, Jez Watanabe. Kitty established the 'Pet Shop Boys Fans in SL' group as she's obsessed by all things PSB related and would love you to join if you are so inclined.
In RL Kitty is a thirty-something certified nutcase who lives with her beloved and their six cats and dog in the uk. She hates cucumbers but is rather proud of the fact that she was interviewed by Jenni Murray on Woman's Hour on Radio 4:)
I'd be MORE than delighted to review your items upon these pages..I'm especially interested in reviewing fashion of all kinds, but I also love hair, skins, furniture, gadgets, animals..anything that's Linden worthy really!

I can’t build PCs and my brother-in-law is too busy, so I’m getting a mahoosive Alienware system. Should handle my needs.
