Berry’s Weird Question Meme (Avatar Blogger Crossfit Challenge (Entry 14 of 30))

Time for yet another meme challenge from Strawberry Singh! I enjoyed this one, VERY much:)

  1. What was the last sim you visited? (Other than your home)Truth (for the hairstyle above)
  2. Does your avatar look like the real you? No. In real life (click and be scarred forever!) I have really long hair that is in dire need of a trim, but I hate having my hair cut. Kitty has her hair in a bob/variations on a bob theme, which is how I would wear my hair if I ever had it cut, but seeing as I’m developing multiple chins it really won’t be flattering to do that. The only similarities between  the real me and Kitty are that we’re both quite pale. She’s a lovely looking thing actually. Cow.
  3. Do you wear underwear/panties underneath your clothing when out and about on the grid? Actually, I’ve recently started doing this, usually because Amanda Shinji will point out that she can see my clunge when we’re sat talking on the sofa. She’s not getting any cheap thrills off me, so pants from now on are the way forward!
  4. If you won a million linden dollars, what would be the first thing you buy inworld? A sim, or a couple of sims.  I’d buy a sim for Amanda, and pay rent on it forever, so she could do whatever the heck she wanted (I’m thinking race track here, natch!) My sim would just be my dream come true; I would have it designed and landscaped by the best people on the grid and my house would be furnished top to bottom in furniture from all my favourite designers. In fact, there’d probably be more than one house on the sim decorated in different styles. I’d have a place for Dad too, decorated in his favourite way.  I’d have a dock and a sailing area, and a space for parties, and quite frankly it would be smegging awesome. I’d open it up for parties and heck, I may even have a pub on the corner of the sim! Look, I’ve thought about this often (can you tell?) and my own sim and limitless prims would be a dream come true for me. Oh if only! <Chuckle>
  5. Have you ever bought something in SL and then realized afterwards that you had already owned it from before? Yes, sadly many times. I have a bit of a troll brain and I forget so quickly that I have things. Also my inventory is a mess, and it’s always a bit sticky-I’ve often bought things and checked beforehand, only to find that actually I did have them already. My inventory really does hate me to be honest. I think the items I’ve bought duplicates of most of all are hair and poses, but hey, more money for the maker right?
  6. Have you ever done anything in Second Life that would be considered illegal in real life? I doubt it very much, but if I did it was unintentional…and that’s my excuse and I stand by it M’lud!
  7. If you could go out on a date with any other avatar, who would it be? Hmmm, interesting question. I’ve always wanted to see Prad Pravithi naked, so..
  8. Who, in your opinion, was the greatest avatar to ever slive? Deedee Fadoodle.
  9. What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done inworld? I rezzed into someone’s house once when they were having really dirty avatar sex. I noped very quickly out of there, let me tell you!
  10. If your avatar had a mind of its own, what do you think it would say to you? “I am NOT WEARING THAT! Are you mad?!”

Jez doesn’t log in very often, as regular readers will know, so it’s always lovely when he does. And I must say, as male avatars go, he is rather tasty.

Of course this is totally down to me.

I heard that Fatewear had released some new awesomeness so I took him along to go see and yes, awesome is a fitting word to describe the lovelieness on offer!

Fatewear, from Damian Fate, has to be one of the best brands of male mesh clothing on the grid. Damian is an outstanding creator, using brilliant textures and bringing them to life with shading and shaping that adds depth and reality to each outfit.

Each item is carefully created;  I mean you really get the sense it took ages to perfect each piece, yet it’s never overstated or brash. Subtlety is key with this brand, with gentle colour transitions and patterns that are visually striking but presented perfectly. Damian is a creator’s creator, and so he should be, he’s been in-world a long time so knows his stuff. This is a designer to aspire to!

His latest releases are a contemporary selection of slacks, tanks and hoodys, which granted aren’t complicated pieces but they need a special touch if they’re to work perfectly, and these do.

I decided to get Jez a ‘Simon’ hoody, and some ‘Nick’ pants, and they just look amazing on  him.  They’re ‘materials ready’, something that I haven’t played about with as yet, but even though I’m not using the MR viewer these still look totally authentic and really look good on his avatar.  The hoody in particular works extremely well. You can wear it with the hood down, or up for a more mean and moody look. It fits like a dream, and the creasing details are perfect. It looks real, what more could you ask for?

Well, I felt Jez needed some new hair too so took him along to Exile. I’ve not tried their men’s styles and wanted to see if Jez would suit them, and the very first one he tried he bought. You know when something just looks right on your avatar? This style; ‘Jackson’ in ‘Marone’,  is a prime example of that. It works beautifully with Jez’s David skin, which is of course meant to replicate the astonishingly handsome David Beckham.  It does a great job of that, but Jez’s shape is tweaked to make him look slightly less like David and more  like..well, Jez!  (I especially like the eye wrinkles that are built into this skin, they make him look beautifully aged and very handsome!)

It’s nice to know that when your virtual fella does actually log in he’s going to look glorious. I just wish he’d log in more often!

Jez wears:

Shape: Jez’s own (based upon Redgrave original)

Skin: REDGRAVE – David in Tan.

Hair: EXILE Jackson in ‘Marone’

Outfit: FATEWEAR (Nick pants and Simon Hoody)

Eyes: IKON ‘Ascension’ in Pewter (M)

(Note: I’ve fallen way behind due to RL work, so here’s me starting a mahoosive kitty catch-up! GAH!)

One of the things I absolutely adore about Second Life is the ability to change your appearance on a whim. With a few clicks you can rapidly transform from human to something entirely different; be it a cyborg, an elemental creature or even a cardboard box. The limits are absolutely endless. Second Life is all about transition, change and development, and not just on a techy level.

Which is why for many of us it’s almost ridiculous that whilst we have so much diversity to choose from, we rarely venture from our core identities. Our shape our style of skin, our hair; we opt for variations on a theme and concentrate on polishing our avatar to an iridescent sparkle. We craft them over time; adding tweaks to the shape and finding a signature style that eventually becomes our look.

And Kitty’s look has sure evolved over time. Back when I joined SL in 2006 I had no idea what I wanted her to look like. I plumped for a shape that was too skinny and top-heavy and her style took a while to evolve. As I’ve mentioned many times before, Second Life style blogs were just emerging at that time, and they were already proving their worth, helping me discover brands and be able to distinguish quality content creators from the sea of tat that was already filling the marketplace (or SLX as it was then) and certain corners of the virtual globe.

Like in real life, our image changes over time, but some things stay sacred. For example, in real life I have long locks, and I shudder when it’s time to have even a trim. But in Second Life, it’s very rare that you’ll see Kitty wearing anything longer than a shoulder length style. Bobs are Kitty’s thing, along with eyeliner, lashings of red lipstick, legwarmers, funky tees and jumpers and cats. (Obviously)

But even though Kitty’s core image rarely changes too dramatically, there’s one thing I do like to change almost as frequently as my underwear, and that’s my skin.  Skin making in Second Life is nothing short of an art in my eyes, and to be successful at it requires a deft hand and a delicate touch, and if there’s one thing I’m choosy about, it’s the skin that I wear.

My favourite skin designers have grown and changed over the years. I’ve always been a Curio girl at heart, but more recently I’ve tended towards Belleza. LAQ, Adam & Eve, Step Inside and Rockberry.  I love them all for different reasons and wear them for different occasions.  For example, if I want a skin with a funky make-up then at the moment I’m plumping for my Belleza skins with their perfect eye-shadows. A simpler look that can be dressed up or down with tattoo layers has me reaching for Izzie’s skins. If I’m seeking sheer luminosity and glow, perfect for wearing at a virtual beach, then that has me reaching for Step Inside’s ‘Runa’ line. There’s so much choice out there and I LOVE IT!!

A new brand for my list is Liliskins. Back in my early days of Second Life, before the dominance of brands like ETD and later Truth,my hair was often sourced at Calla. This empire was established by Tigerlily Koi, and she was expert at torturing prims into exotic tresses and created some of the best up-dos that the grid has ever seen.  As time passed and my tastes changed I veered towards other makers, but I still have acres of room in my inventory dedicated to Calla, and a few hairstyles I take out of dusty boxes and wear from time to time with a smile on my chops as they trigger happy memories.

Liliskins is Tigerlily’s contribution to the world of Second Life skin, and it’s a welcome addition indeed.

Her store is  a reflection of her brand ethos and is elegant and beautifully lit with all her wares easy to see on display and purchase.  Not only that, but this is a store for the complete skin experience.  Tigerlily’s gone the whole hog, crafting skins, eyes and providing appliers for mesh boobs and slink hands and feet, so is offering a complete skin experience, from head to toe. You can even get dimples too!

When she dropped a parcel upon me of skins to try I was thrilled and enjoyed trying them on and thinking of the looks that could be best worn with them. The skins feature great colour, tone and shading but with a twist of nostalgia thrown in. These skins have an almost ‘traditional’ feel to them, retro if you will, but don’t for an instant think that’s a bad thing.  Oh no, far from it. These are skins that are less about complication and distraction yet totally about ease-of-wear and attractiveness. There’s no fuss and frippery, just a quality skin embellished with make-up that you can dress up or down as you see fit, knowing you look the part.  Confidence is key, even in a virtual world, and you can be confident wearing these skins for sure.

Image

One of the flourishes that makes these skins different to others are the brows. They’re quite stylised, and almost Cara Delevinge heavy, but they frame the face and work extremely well with the make-ups that are available for the skins.

I mentioned that you could get all the appliers you could possibly want in store to enhance and provide the perfect finish to your look, but you can also add eyes into that equation. The eyes on sale here, at a very reasonable L$150, are well worth your time and Lindens, and feature some really lovely colour combinations. I really recommend the ‘Pale Olive Gold’. And when it comes to make up let me advise that the lipsticks here are just divine, with a pack featuring varying shades of gloss available for L$250.  My favourite being ‘Burnished Rose’, just delicious.

Because I said there was a vintage feel to this skin, I’ve dressed it Gatsby-style for the shots. I added hair by TRAM, and a glorious roaring Twentie’s style frock by SENZAFINE to my skin ensemble. Looks the part, don’t you think?

Last but not least, Liliskins is also holding a picture contest, and you have plenty of time to enter. It’s open until June 30th, and all you need to do is submit your photo to the Liliskins Flickr Group for the chance to win some heftily stocked gift cards to enable you to further expand your Liliskin range. What’s not to love? Whoop!

Random Tuesday Rambles (Avatar Blogger Crossfit Challenge (Entry 11 of 30))

Well it’s the eleventh, and here’s my eleventh post..yikes, don’t tell me I’m actually keeping on top of this challenge?

Today was a day for chilling and shopping. I had RL stuff ‘n’ things to do so my time in-world was limited, yet of course I managed to sneak a few Second Life moments in. (Not addicted, honest)

I went for a mooch to The Arcade and managed to get in successfully! (The trick appears to be wait over a week, and go there in the morning, European time)  It’s a great build to explore and use for photos, and of course the items are plain sensational. I dropped lucky for a change too, I scored a rare on my first Gacha punt, whoop!ImageMy obsessions this round have to be the utterly amazing friendship bracelets from BOOM. I adore them; they are so neat and colourful yet look exactly the way that I remember them as a youngling.

tumblr_mmzbldpL5t1srop2vo1_r3_500

Even better than that, stacking them hides unsightly Second Life jagged wrists and those tiny gaps that come from wearing mesh hands. I’m not sure if I’ll take these off! I’m trying to get all the colours and some rares too, I love them that much.

I’m also loving the gacha dresses from Tee*fy at The Arcade. The fit is great, and I was really pleased to spot a tie-dye version at one of the yard sales I’ve been frequenting. It’s called ‘Aurella High Low Summer dress’ and is  a really natty summer find, something I think I’ll wear often and dress up/down according to need.

Last but not least I’m wearing the cutest little kitty necklace EVER! Yes, it’s yet another winner from Sienia Trevellion. It costs just L$15 (special offer) and is available at the ‘Funny Puppet Fair’. Also available are 4 necklaces with a sleeping panda, faun, bear and bunny. Like everything that Sienia does it’s beautifully styled, textured and made of win.

And that’s me done for today, time to chill before RL work tomorrow. I’m planning my posts for the next couple of days so that I stay on top of my Avatar Blogging Challenge responsibilities (Me plan ahead? Unheard of!) so coming up I have a very special post for you featuring the beautiful Liliskins from Tigerlily Koi.
