Kitty Wanders: The Apothecary

Kitty Wanders: The Apothecary

Apothecary_001.pngMy soul needed some soothing today, so I took a trip to THE APOTHECARY, for some ‘medicine’. By medicine I mean the kind of tranquil, mindful exploring that you can only conduct in Second Life in a sim as beautiful as this.

One of the things I’ve always loved about Second Life is the willingness of creators to share beautifully designed and decorated sims with others. Oftentimes I’ll just log in and sit in my skybox, I find a strange peace in doing that (and I know that I’m not the only one who does!)  but I also love to wander and explore.

Apothecary_003.pngI love beautifully decorated homes and spaces in particular, and some people just have the knack for creating them. Harlow Heslop certainly does; she’s been the proprietress of many a loved establishment over the years and The Apothecary contrasts her trademark stylings of soft furnishings and artfully placed knick-knacks against an inviting, natural landscape where you can roam, dance and explore.  I highly suggest that you visit, either alone or with friends, and enjoy the relaxing vibe that this glorious environment delivers.Apothecary_005.png

Here, Kitty Kitty!

Here, Kitty Kitty!

This week saw the release of the latest BISHBOX.  Along with POWDER PACK, It’s the only subscriber box that I pick up every month. I was incredibly excited to discover that the theme this month was ‘Bad Kitty’, as you can imagine that ticked ALL my boxes, but unfortunately, when it came to the opening and reviewing of the contents there were only a select few items that I really enjoyed.  In fact, this is how disappointed I was: I recorded a vlog and then deleted it. I just thought I sounded incredibly miserable and negative, but the fact was, there was so much scope and yet most of the participants had gone for the same old ideas.  I felt let down and disappointed. There is a lot more to creating a cat aesthetic than masks, PVC and collars.  True, it’s a theme that has been done to death in Second Life but I was ready to be wowed with some super original content and that just wasn’t the case. Now I’ve had a whinge there were a couple of stellar items that I really enjoyed, and I’ll feature those in forthcoming posts.

In other news, UBER has some interesting offerings this month. It’s an event I find a little hit or miss in the extreme. When I finally manage to get in I either go mad and buy all the things or harrumph and roll my eyes as I slope off home in a sulk.  This month saw me buying a few items but I don’t think it’s up to the usual standard. That said, the ‘Yonder Eyes’ from IZZIE’S are well worth checking out if you want to up your virtual eye game; the colours Izzie has created are beautiful.

Can you see a theme developing here? In fact, that’s something I’m seeing reflected in other events and offerings across the grid; is the virtual shopping bubble about to burst? Nah, I don’t think so.  Don’t forget that it’s almost Summer and people tend to hang out more in real life once the weather gets warm.  Yes, designers have real lives too you know!

Anyway, here’s a look I threw together featuring items from BISHBOX, UBER and MESH BODY ADDICTS BI-MONTHLY, which finishes soon so quick..run!

Dancing On My Own

Dancing On My Own

Waiting..Make no mistake guys and gals, March is going to be a BIG month.  First of all, we’ve got the first THE ARCADE round of 2016, and the previews suggest that it is going to be an absolute belter. Then we have SKIN FAIR 2016, which I’m incredibly excited by, and that’s just TWO of the events that will be depriving us of our hard earned cash!  This all means of course that I have to be very careful with my pennies, so I’m trying to refrain from shopping as much as possible at present.  This isn’t easy, especially when you consider I haven’t even made it into UBER yet, and virtual shopping for me is very much an itch that I have to scratch, often!waiting_007So cheap and cheerful was on the cards for me today. I wanted to try and replicate the monochromatic colour trend that’s doing the rounds at the moment. If you aren’t familiar with it, it’s when you have the same colour on eyes, lips and nails. It’s a very uniform look, and when it’s done correctly it’s rather beautiful. Problem was, I didn’t want to spend an absolute shit ton on new skins or appliers for my LELUTKA ‘Stella’ head. Not to worry, I found exactly what I was after at DEESSES, which is firmly becoming an absolute favourite of mine for all things applier. For the princely sum of L$99 each i purchased the ‘Fleek’ eyeshadow palette, and the ‘Sexey’ lip palette and applied them to my mush. Et voila, monochromatic marvellousness without too many Lindens spent and how professional do my chops look? I think I look bloody beautiful! Of course, it helps that skin I am sporting, (DEETALEZ ‘Jolie’ Lelutka head applier and European tone Maitreya Lara body  applier)provide the perfect base, but you can’t fail to be impressed by the finished look. I’m also sporting a freebie in this picture too, the glorious ‘Hanky Panky’ lingerie set from BLACKLACE. I’ve been wearing this brand of virtual lingerie for absolutely donkey’s years and they continue to go from strength to strength. They’re also very generous with the group gifts too, as this set proves. I’m wearing it on my virtual booty courtesy of the Omega applier system, and it’s very swish indeed. It’s sheer , so you get a delicious hint of what lies beneath..naughty then, but not too OTT, although the stockings and suspenders really take it up a level. I’m really into my virtual undies at the moment with  DEAD DOLLZ, MILK TEA and of course,  BLACKLACE being real favourite brands of mine so I’m often to be found dancing around my skybox in my almost naked on a rainy Saturday afternoon… Anyway, TL;DR: You don’t need to spend a fortune to look good. Check out your groups for gifts like this one, and hit up places like DEESSES for appliers that can really make all the difference to your look! Enjoy!

Kitty Things: How I love my skybox home

Kitty Things: How I love my skybox home

home_008As I’ve said before on these pages I find a lot of solace in my skybox.  There’s something very satisfying about logging in to my virtual home and finding all my familiar virtual stuff and things there waiting for me. It blows my mind to think that none of the furnishings, animals and ephemera it contains are physically real, they all live on a server somewhere, but with a splash of creator’s imagination and  a deftly applied texture my favourite comfy chair comes to life, along with all my favourite things proudly on display within.   I adore my skybox home, and although  I do seem to covet and collect skyboxes on a regular basis  I’ve never found it in my heart to replace it. The skybox that I live in is The New York Penthouse from Barnesworth Anubis. It’s my ‘Mary Poppins’ space: to me it’s practically perfect in every way.  That said, there are a few things I would love to see changed, so this  blog-post is going to serve as a wishlist of sorts just in case the creator, BARNESWORTH ANUBIS, happens to come across this post.  So forgive my flight of fancy dear reader and allow me to begin: Hey Mr. Anubis! If you ever decided to ‘upgrade’ this particular skybox design, I have some ideas that you may be interested in?   First up, although I love the open plan could you add a bedroom door? It does get a tad draughty and sometimes the light from the kitchen keeps me awake when Jez is making a midnight snack.   I know I could add a screen to cover the door, but it wouldn’t look quite as polished as if you did it. Same goes for the internal window feature; I actually quite like it but I could see that for some having a solid wall would be more useful.  I always love the floor textures that you  apply to your builds, they’re exemplary, and in my skybox the wooden floor looks especially amazing.  But the brickwork could perhaps do with appearing a tad sharper, especially when zoomed in.   I’d also like the option to have the space for a fireplace, but to be able to incorporate one of my choosing.  (I’m very  partial to the Cast Iron Fireplaces that Apple Fall has released recently and would love to be able to use one of those in my skybox..) Perhaps my biggest customer suggestion for this particular skybox is that I would LOVE another room. Perhaps the floorplan could be increased by removing some of the generous space that is available as you walk in? Or, and even better to my mind, is to add a staircase up to another floor. I’ll take that even further: I would have the staircase situated towards the end of the bedroom  leading up a level.  Even better than that? It would be a cast iron  spiral staircase too! (OOH can you imagine? I can!)home_006Back to (virtual) reality. Now, some of you are reading this I’ve no doubt and thinking, but Kitty, this is a MOD skybox, so why don’t you make these changes yourself? Simple answer? I don’t know how.  I can make rudimentary changes like adding textured panels but I don’t know how to ‘undo’ a build of this magnitude to create extra rooms etc.  Besides, even if I did it, my finished work would never have the panache that a BARNESWORTH ANUBIS build would have. I mean come on, I’d ruin it, and that simply will not do! So here’s a Kitty-plea: Barnesworth, should you happen to be reading this, PLEASE consider making a revised version of this skybox with some enhanced features and perhaps even the touches that I’ve highlighted here.  I know many people who would be incredibly happy if you did that, but most of all me, and I’d be the first in-line to throw the Lindens at you once it was on sale! Here’s hoping my dream becomes a reality.  But it doesn’t have to; sometimes the nice things about flights of fancy is that they’re just that.  After all, there’s a lot to be said for being careful what you wish for, I mean what if Barnesworth released a revised version of this skybox and I didn’t like it?! EEP! Keyhole_008But when it comes down to it, I’ve lived a long time in this skybox and I have no intention of leaving it.  It makes me incredibly happy every time I log in, and after all, that’s what life, real or virtual,  should be about.  With that at the forefront of my mind then, I shall go on living my Second Life  within the comfortable confines of my virtual abode.  Some people have wooded glens and open spaces as their sacred space; but mine is a bundle of pixels and polygons on a monitor that with a bit of magic turn into something wonderful that I absolutely adore.  home_004Barnesworth Anubis NYC apartment
