Bear with me..I’m having one of my verbal rambles. Quite honestly I don’t know how people do it..it must be a genetically inherited super-ability that enables the lucky few to create some of the beautiful things that ‘Second Life’ is absolutely festooned with. I’m starting to view our metaverse as a living artwork, which may sound a tad pretentious especially coming from me, but bear with me on this point.
Have you ever looked at your surroundings properly? Wherever you rez in world next-do it. Obviously if you appear somewhere horribly festooned with ad-boards and miscelleneous nastiness you could be forgiven for thinking my remaining marbles have left the building. Piffle! If you haven’t ever wandered around some of the sims in SL with your gob open in astonishment then you deserve to be banned from the world for life. BUT beware, sometimes your gob falls open for all the wrong reasons too- yes there are some fine builds, but there are some bloody awful things out there too. Which is why it’s so important that the good designers are recognised in world….
A few (MAD) people in the past once suggested that I lend my hand to content creation…now, after I picked myself up off the floor and removed my lungs from the wall (They left a stain, Jez will KILL me if he spots it) I explained that I have neither the patience nor the intelligence to be able to create in the way that say, Praddles can. I don’t have those skills, and I’d rather pay someone for an astoundingly beautiful object that stick up a half-arsed attempt made by myself. ( I wish more people thought like me! well, actually on the other hand, perhaps not)Prad (Pravithi) designed ‘The Crown and Pearl’ bar, and it is just beautiful. He’s also part of the design duo that is ‘PRim Designs’, and with his gorgeous colleague and fellow designer Rrish he’s featured in this months ‘Prim Perfect’ magazine.
I think you should take a visit and see what can be created when you put your mind to it. This store is the dogs cogs, the mutts nuts..it makes Ikea look like Poundstretcher. I wish I could sit on the sofas that they’ve made there in RL, but alas I can’t. (TBH I couldn’t afford those sofa’s in RL so it’s nice that I get to enjoy them in world.) It comes as no suprise when you learn that Praddles is studying to be an architect in the real world, and I think he has one helluva future ahead of him.
There is a point to this mad ramble. I’ve bought a ruddy huge house today and am currently landscaping my island around it and it is driving me quite mad. It’s bloody hard work. I hate it that the land ripples and squirms around when you try to flatten it. I hate it that when you plant trees they look fine from a distance but when you get up close to them they are in mid-air. It is a ruddy challenge and a half for me. BUT I’m persevering, because although I hate the landscaping part, I LOVE positioning the furniture and making the inside look great. I once described SL to a friend as ‘Dolls Houses for grown ups’, and I still believe that there is an element of truth to that. I loved nothing more than playing with my dolls houses as a kid, arranging the furniture, painting the walls…taking it all out and starting all over again. It was the best fun:) So even though I’m having a moan, I know that I’m going to have loads of fun furnishing my new place and I’m hoping that because I’ve given them a mention that Rrish and Prad will give me a discount;P (No I have no morals, yes I sold my soul to Satan long ago…)
Seriously, checkout the latest edition of ‘Prim Perfect’ and see what can be achieved in a virtual world when you put your real mind to it.
