I love landscaping I do..not…

Bear with me..I’m having one of my verbal rambles.  Quite honestly I don’t know how people do it..it must be a genetically inherited super-ability that enables the lucky few to create some of the  beautiful things that ‘Second Life’  is absolutely festooned with. I’m starting to view our metaverse as a living artwork, which may sound a tad pretentious especially coming from me, but bear with me on this point.

Have you ever looked at your surroundings properly? Wherever you rez in world next-do it. Obviously if you appear somewhere horribly festooned with ad-boards and miscelleneous nastiness you could be forgiven for thinking my remaining marbles have left the building. Piffle! If you haven’t ever wandered around some of the sims in SL with your gob open in astonishment then you deserve to be banned from the world for life.  BUT beware, sometimes your gob falls open for all the wrong reasons too- yes there are some fine builds, but there are some bloody awful things out there too.  Which is why it’s so important that the good designers are recognised in world….

A few (MAD) people in the past once suggested that I lend my hand to content creation…now, after I picked myself up off the floor and removed my lungs from the wall (They left a stain, Jez will KILL me if he spots it) I explained that I have neither the patience nor the intelligence to be able to create in the way that say, Praddles can. I don’t have those skills, and I’d rather pay someone for an astoundingly beautiful object that stick up a half-arsed attempt made by myself. ( I wish more people thought like me! well, actually on the other hand, perhaps not)Prad (Pravithi) designed ‘The Crown and Pearl’ bar, and it is just beautiful.  He’s also part of the design duo that is ‘PRim Designs’, and with his gorgeous colleague and fellow designer Rrish he’s featured in this months ‘Prim Perfect’ magazine.

I think you should take a visit and see what can be created when you put your mind to it.  This store is the dogs cogs, the mutts nuts..it makes Ikea look like Poundstretcher.  I wish I could sit on the sofas that they’ve made there in RL, but alas I can’t.  (TBH I couldn’t afford those sofa’s in RL so it’s nice that I get to enjoy them in world.) It comes as no suprise when you learn that Praddles is studying to be an architect in the real world, and I think he has one helluva future ahead of him.

There is a point to this mad ramble.  I’ve bought a ruddy huge house today and am currently landscaping my island around it and it is driving me quite mad. It’s bloody hard work.  I hate it that the land ripples and squirms around when you try to flatten it.  I hate it that when you plant trees they look fine from a distance but when you get up close to them they are in mid-air. It is a ruddy challenge and a half for me.  BUT I’m persevering, because although I hate the landscaping part, I LOVE positioning the furniture and making the inside look great. I once described SL to a friend as ‘Dolls Houses for grown ups’, and I still believe that there is an element of truth to that.  I loved nothing more than playing with my dolls houses as a kid, arranging the furniture, painting the walls…taking it all out and starting all over again. It was the best fun:) So even though I’m having a moan, I know that I’m going to have loads of fun furnishing my new place and I’m hoping that because I’ve given them a mention that Rrish and Prad will give me a discount;P  (No I have no morals, yes I sold my soul to Satan long ago…)

Seriously, checkout the latest edition of ‘Prim Perfect’ and see what can be achieved in a virtual world when you put your real mind to it.

Every Kitty needs a break from shopping, so I stopped by my chum  Whoosh “It’s all his fault that I am in Second Life” Shatner’s for a brew. He’s such an utter gentleman, when he isn;t wearing his leather chaps that is.  He’s just built his own glass house and it is breathtaking, I’m really proud of him and I think he should sell them:) Of course, as you can tell from the picture I wasn’t really dressed for the occasion!

Monday Mutterings

Monday Mutterings

Sometimes it really freaks me out how like real life ‘Second Life’ can actually be.

I’ll give you an example; when you bump into someone you know in a totally unexpected place like the centre of Edinburgh while you’re on holiday. A similar thing happened to me last night in world..  I decided to venture into the Sine Wave sim and check out their dances, following on from my discovery of Jellybean’s blog and subsequently her movies on ‘You Tube’. Exactly at the same time  I rezzed  in my good friends Dirk and Boo appeared, which felt *really* weird.  In so vast a world as SL what were the chances of me and them appearing in the same place at the same time? Cue music from the twilight zone….! Anyhoo, I’m just reading through the ever wonderful ‘Second Style’ magazine and I am genuinely relieved to read that one of their fashion predictions for 2008 is the death of the babydoll dress.  Thank the Gods for that, I utterly detest them! In fact I feel like building a bonfire, stripping off and running around it naked in a gleeful state of abandon whilst  the sum total of all SL  babydoll dresses burn to cinders atop it.  I kid you not, I dislike them that much!
Sorry if I cause offence but they are absolutely horrid.  A fashion trend that should never have been allowed into the metaverse. In fact in my book of SL fashion hates  they’re in the same chapter as skirts that stick out from the waist at a  90 degree angle. That’s a moan for another time..
I was starting to think that I was the only person who hated babydoll’s so it’s somewhat reassuring to see that I am not alone in my dislike of them.  Admittedly I have seen some very nice ones in world on at least two occasions  but there’s nothing that makes me want to scream more than seeing a very tall, super thin leggy blonde avatar strutting along on her 6″ heels in a *PINK*  babydoll dress. It just looks completely wrong, out of proportion and however you label it soo not a good look!  Then there is the voluminosity of some of them! How can I put this delicately? Some of them look like parachutes cut off in their prime!
At this point I must confess that I own a couple , but I got them when I was a noob.  In other words they were very early purchases when I didn’t know any better, and were bought so long ago that they’re lost forever in my inventory.  I won’t be looking for them in a hurry!
* Please* if you must wear the ruddy things wear them as tops  with jeans or trousers, that makes them look much better!

JellyBean makes cool videos!

JellyBean makes cool videos!

I’d never heard of ‘Jellybean Madison’ until about 20 minutes ago..now I’ve watched most of her movies on ‘Youtube’ and consider myself a bit of a fan:) She’s been filming various dances created by ‘Sine Wave’ and I was gobsmacked by her results..I’ll be adding some of her films to my vodpod very shortly, and adding Jelly’s blog to my blogroll.  If I could get in world I’d probably go and buy some but hey, the grid is playing silly buggers *yet* again….Suffice to say, these are some of the best dances that I have ever seen in SL.  Fluid and utterly awesome, I *need* some of them desperately! Perhaps on second thoughts it’s a good job I can’t get in world, as I’m sure you can guess what I’d be doing!
