The awards just keep on coming….

Again, this is another one that I was dreading calling ( I have had the Flu, honest- I’ve not just been avoiding you!) but really there’s a hands down winner here, all things considered. That said, Nekorifik! has really come into it’s own this year, with Lawra Fredrikkson mad busy building her shopping empire in SL yet still finding the time to produce some pretty nifty garb of her own. Noam Sprocket ( Gritty Kitty) on the other hand needs no introduction to anyone, the guy is a legend and creates the most amazing bags, hairstyles and Neko items that you’ll find anywhere on the grid. He has an ardent band of followers and when a he produces a new release it doesn’t take long until you start to see it being worn by all and sundry across the grid, but that is no bad thing; his pieces are so individual that they can be worn by anyone and still look fresh as a daisy. BUT, there can only be one winner and I’ve concluded that she spends practically ALL her time at her keyboard. If she doesn’t, then she’s either a clone or a doppelganger, because the volume of work from this uber-creatrix is beyond compare. Ivey Deschanel should be viewed as an inspiration by new designers on the grid, as she really has worked her arse off to secure the status that Sn@tch has acquired on the grid. Not only that, she manages to be uber generous with gifts to store visitors and group members alike, and is a perfect example of how to use a distribution group;each week she sends out an essay to members stating what’s new and what bargains are to be had. But that’s all paperwork- the proof of the pudding is in the eating, or in this case, greedy devouring as Sn@tch fashion makes you want to gobble it all down in one fell swoop. Everything in the store is pitched perfectly towards it’s audience, is colourful when it needs to be, and fits like a dream. Not only that, but the ink and skins and shapes and entire range are just so damn wonderful that it’s hard to not be swept along by the gloriousness of it all..no wonder that her store is always busy! Incidentally, if you’re not into Neko or Goth or Grunge…don’t be put off. I’ve found some stunning pieces that can be dressed up, down or just slopped on with a pair of heels and a bag and you would never believe that the finished look started out in Sn@tch.

Ivey Deschanel, you’ve been a source of wonder during 2008- I wonder how you’re going to wow us all in 2009?

And the award for best skin goes to…..

And the award for best skin goes to…..

I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how tough this category was to judge. For a start I’d wittled it down to three entries from an awesome field of contenders lurking in my inventory, and if I’m brutally honest I have no idea how I managed that. ( Look I didn’t include exemplary creators like PXL or Laqroki so can you see how tough it was for me?!) I don’t think there’s a more subjective item in Second Life than your skin..teamed with your shape it forms the very basis of your in-world identity and is of such HUGE importance that if you’re a serious SL’er you really do owe it to yourself to get the very best skin you can afford. Bearing all that in mind then I’ve preened and pouted wearing skins by all of the nominees and I can honestly say that look stunning in every single one..but there can be only one winner, and for the sheer wow factor that winner has to be…REDGRAVE. I’ve lived in Redgrave for a couple of months now, and not only did Emilia’s work turn me on to tanned skin (I know! Can you believe it?) The details and crafting on each make-up in her range basically leave me astounded each time I wear one. That said, Curio and Chai are also firm favourites that I frequently sport-especially the Curio ‘Luster’ series which is simply beautiful. Chai are a recent discovery and the shopping experience alone makes them one of the stand-out content creators in Second Life- individual, lockable changing rooms with working mirrors anyone? Superb…

But there can only be one winner, and congratulations to Emilia Redgrave on her achievement.

Ready for the winners?

Ready for the winners?

I was sooo hoping to do this in one batch, but in RL I’m battling a particularly harsh chest infection that has left me feeling like death warmed up..(Quote Jez, “You look like shit-don’t come near me!”)So what I have decided to do is to announce two winners per day (10 categories so that will take us up to the weekend) and over the weekend I’ll announce the “Uber Kitty” award winner:) Exciting isn’t it?!
Cough, splutter, wheeze…. Ready?  Here goes!

Contenders? Ready! ‘The Kittywitchin Awards’ Nominees 2008

Contenders? Ready! ‘The Kittywitchin Awards’ Nominees 2008

So, here’s my list of ‘Kittywitchin Awards’ contenders.  The winner of each category will recieve a ‘Kittie’, that is a plaque telling them that they’re rather special winner-types:)

My aim was to be able to present the winners with a little gold Kitty statuette but I’m *useless* at building so that will just have to wait until next year:) ( I’m planning ahead, see?) ‘The Kitties’  are going to be awarded to each winner for the impact that they or their product(s) have had on me personally as a consumer and SL citizen.  I’ve blogged about the majority of these labels before which is why I’ve selected them, because I’m familiar with their accomplishments and the work  concerned.  I’ll also be taking into account each nominee’s wider influence across the metaverse.  Of course this is entirely subjective and is merely a reflection of my own opinions that I’ve formed during the past year of blogging and reviewing allsorts of nicies; but I hope that you enjoy these awards and see that this is just my way of giving back a little something to those who have given us, as a virtual community,  so much.

I can say categorically that each creator deserves to be on this list…in fact, there are many more who should also appear, but I’ve  given this a LOT of serious thought  (I know! Can you believe it?!)and it’s actually been hard work!   Each of the nominees express quality and professionalism in their given areas; whether it be Peter Stindberg and his glorious Berlin Sofas,Saffia Widdershins and her amazing ‘Prim Perfect’ publication or Canimal Zephyr and her trend-setting fashions, I genuinely rate all of these content creators, designers, writers and establishments and admire the individuals concerned (No, I don’t know all of them personally! Some I’ve never even met!)  Each and every one of them is deserving of your patronage, which is why you can visit each nominee via the SLURL’s I’ve included for each.  Over the weekend I’ll be finalising my list of winners which I’ll publish next week on the blog. Like I previously indicated there isn’t going to be an awards ceremony BUT I’d love to be able to take a photograph with as many of the winners as possible for publication here, so winners, please bear that in mind and see if you can squeeze me in to your hectic schedules!

So here we are then…it’s my great pleasure to present you with a list of nominees for ‘The Kittywitchin Awards 2008’

There’s also a ‘Special’ award for an individual/group chosen at my discretion for just being absolutely second-lifey-brilliant…

Please use the SLURL’s listed above to visit the nominees and see exactly why they’ve been selected:)
