Which infamous bar closed down over five months ago and broke many a dedicated Second Lifer’s heart? Clue: The closure spawned wonderful places like ‘The Crown and Pearl’, ‘The Pig ‘n’ Horn’ and ‘Lilly’s Place’….guessed it yet? Aw come on……

San Jose Seating..*new* by Greene Concept
Further to my last post, pictured here is me sat on one of teh scrumptious new San Jose sofas, also by Greene Concept. It’s a bit spesh isn’t it? I love the circular design and the button detail on the fabric. Greene concept is certainly setting a benchmark for itself by creating such excellent furniture. It really does make you itch to see what else they have planned! I was lucky enough to meet with Peter Stindberg and Ivanova Shostakovich and talk to them about their new design venture, and it’s clear that they are passionate about their new business, an attitude that is always refreshing to encounter. It’s worth remembering that SL, viewed as an art-form in itself, is a real showcase for innovative, wonderful design, but there’s some real dross out there too to counter balance the argument. (Oh yes there is, I’ve seen it..and I’ve owned some of it myself..there is a reason freebie furniture is free!) Function and form, those design buzzwords of old, are as valid in the virtual world as the real, and even if a design is fantasy themed it still has to retain credibility. The very best content in-world ticks all those boxes. Perhaps it’s because I have a rampant imagination (steady!) but when I see something in-world I almost always picture it in real life, with the most authentic pieces the easiest to imagine. ( Come on admit it, how many times have you laid awake in bed at night and wandered around some virtual plain in your mind? If I can’t sleep I wander around my house, my land..go shopping…hey, I’m sad like that!) Anyways, I’ve pictured these sofas in so many different settings! They’re not only good for the home, but also for bars and clubs and office areas..the white cotton version would look especially at home in a patient waiting area/clinical setting ( In-world maternity clinic owners take note!) These aren’t just conversation pieces in their own right, but they also facilitate friendly chat via the nifty animated seating positions embedded within each piece. The colour combinations, like those of the Berlin ‘chair’ (it’s a ruddy oversized footstool!!) will blend in perfectly with a modern furnishing scheme, and I especially love the velvet, cotton and denim options. If I had to stick my neck out and say what makes these stand out from a very crowded market it I’d say that it has to be the finishing. The textures are bloody excellent…zoom in and out and have a darn good look if you don’t believe me. As before, the piping and seaming is just spot on. The wood finish looks excellent and it’s completely believable as a piece of furniture. I really like it and if you’re interested I heartily recommend that you indulge, and I also suggest you check out Greene concept’s blog to read up on the ethos behind these designs. However I do have one criticism, and that is the price-they’re very expensive. I think this will mean that Greene Concept Designs may become niche and exclusive, but that can only increase their desirability. If you’re fortunate enough to be able to indulge I suggest that you do, I can’t think of a nicer sofa for you and a bunch of your friends to park your virtual butts and chill out upon:)
Greene Concept ‘Berlin’ Chair

This rather amazing chair is the latest release from ‘Greene Concept’. OK, a chair may not be the most exciting thing in Second Life, BUT these chairs are absolutely something else. Each of these ‘Berlin’ chairs feature four sit poses that subtly change as you recline. So far so what I hear you say, but the difference here is the quality. These chairs (they’re more like over-sized footstools to be honest) have been lovingly crafted with not only the most perfect animations but also the most sublime texture jobs I have seen in a loooonnngg time! Peter Stindberg, Ivanova Shostakovich and Greeneconcept Helfer are the team behind these new designs and congratulations guys, your work is exemplary! I’ve chosen this picture so you’ll be able to see the texture of the cloth chosen for the chair. Also note the piping on the edge…it’s rather scrumptious isn’t it? What you cannot see are the chair legs, but you can just get a glimpse of the built-in shadow. There are a variety of colours available, my personal favourite is the cow print, but they are absolutely perfect for any home. Ideal for a formal setting, yet modern enough to fit just right in a minimalist interior scheme. I cannot rave about them enough! Go see for yourself..get 3 of your mates to go shopping with you, and sit on these babies. Nice huh?
More Kitty Whinging….
You may be wondering (or you may not) where my fashion postings have departed to in recent weeks. I apologise for my being a tad lax in providing my clothing related witterings, but two words account for it: Credit Crunch! Yes, poor ol’ Kitty is tightening her purse strings so that no more moths fly out. Ok, I know I’m half-Scottish and all that, but I’m not being mean or stingy. I think the designers in Second Life do a wonderful job and fully deserve all the dollars they make. However, the vast majority of my exploits and purchases are paid for from my own pocket, so that means when I don’t have nice shiny newness to share with you it means I can’t afford to go out and buy any. I’m lucky in that Sn@tch, Nekorifik and Fukmi Clothing have been more than generous in supplying me with wonderful new things to share with you all, BUT I’m conscious that if I just based this blog on the articles donated by three designers then you wouldn’t have a very objective or realistic picture of the in-world fashion scene as a whole, hence my buying lots of pretty things and reviewing them here. Of course, it’s always been my aim that Kittywitchin isn’t completely written about fashion. I want to share with you my whole virtual experience, so that means that when I buy other objects on occasion, such as the skybox for my Dad, I’ll blog them accordingly. It all takes funds though, something which at the moment are in somewhat short supply.
I know what you might be thinking: “What a whinger! Kitty you’re a hot-shot reporter and SL-ebrity* and must be talking out of your ass as it’s obvious that you’re LOADED!” Think again… The Avastar have gone really quiet on me at the moment so I’m not getting any regular work ( and payments) from them, something which I’m sorely missing. Incidentally, If you’re reading this Leider and Regis..I am still here!! Call me? To compound my gloom I’ve also just missed out on a golden opportunity regarding a sub-editorial position on a blog which I’m beyond gutted about, and as per my last post I won’t be featured in an art exhibition., which I was tremendously excited about. All in all, my Second Life is a tad ‘meh’ at the mo 😦
But back to the credit crunch- if I’m having to reign in on my purchasing power, it makes me wonder how badly the credit crunch will be impacting the SL economy as a whole. Designers are already more than generous with freebies, but freebies are just tasters… the good stuff of course goes on sale, and there is a LOT of good stuff out there to be had.
It’s really grim when you can’t indulge…but even grimmer for all the time and effort spent by all those wonderful content creators for little or no reward. ( *Sl-ebrity is definitely taking it too far! People such as Codie and Vint are indeed slebrities and with good reason, they’re amazingly talented. I’m just a blogger with grand aspirations!)
