I want your job as Starbuck!*

( I know, lame reference to a Feeder song there, but it was worth a shot!)
I am a HUGE Battlestar Galactica fan..(literally) and I can recall watching the original series as a little girl and thinking that Dirk Benedict was kind of dreamy, although by rights at that age I didn’t really have any concept of having a crush on a TV star. ( I did have a thing about Knight Rider and Airwolf as well when I was a tad older, but rather than lusting after the male totty, I was far more in lust with KITT and the helicopter….hey, I never claimed to be normal!)
When BSG re-launched I was sceptical, to say the least. I needn’t have worried though, the series has been fantastic and has completely revitalised my faith in TV sci-fi, especially after the ridiculous decision to cancel Firefly after just one series. From the opening credit score, to the costumes, the dazzling special effects and the engrossing storylines the whole concept has been fantastically re-imagined and is absolutely vital viewing. The casting has been superb and exceptionally brave, I mean Starbuck as a girl? Fabulous-it’s hard to believe that Starbuck could be anything else other than the gutsy, capricious and absolutely brilliant Kara Thrace. I love it, love it, LOVE IT and will weep buckets when the show finally draws to a close. I could ramble on and on about how much I adore Lee Adama and his father, about the fantastic cylons and how ‘Razor’ has been on of the absolute best things to see on TV ever..BUT this is a Second Life blog and such wittering is way off topic. WELL, actually it isn’t. The whole reason for this post is that I recently happened across the amazing Darth Mojo’s blog, and have been hooked ever since so I wanted to plug it here but obviously it’s non-SL related..BUT fortunately for us…there’s a whole sim devoted to BSG in-world! The sim is actually a spaceship, the Battlestar Pacifica, and avatars can role-play away to their hearts content therein. ( When I rezzed in to take a few snapshots this morning there were people in the lobby discussing the quorum, so obviously it’s all taken very seriously!) Some amazing BSG related creations can be found in world, and if you pay a visit to SL Exchange and type in ‘Battlestar Galactica’ you’ll find pages of uniforms, weaponry and CYLON!! Yes, old style and new style are available, but even better than that, you can even get your very own Cylon raider ( which looks AWESOME) or a Viper! WEEE!! Anyway, in honour of Darth Mojo’s blog, and as a way of paying homage to this amazing series, here’s a picture of me dressed as Starbuck:)
(The hair is by Aden, as plugged on Linden Lifestyles recently. The outfit is by the wonderfully named ‘Trimzi Hedges’ and is available off SL Exchange.)
Southsea Lookr + PRim Design Launch!

Southsea Lookr + PRim Design Launch!

I love launch parties, especially when I genuinely admire the designers who are hosting them. I was really happy therefore to attend the opening party for the new Southsea sim, especially because it features two of Second Life’s most exciting stores, PRim Designs and Lookr clothing. The former features some of the most beautiful furniture that you could possibly aspire to create, let alone own in Second Life. The latter is a fashion store that sells especially exciting designs for both men and women. I’ll be discussing these stores in depth in the next few posts, but I just wanted to do a brief write up before I hit the sack in RL…the party is still going strong so why don’t you head on over and wish Prad, Rrish and Adam all the best with their new venture:) I’ll blog a proper review of the lusciousness on display during the next few hours….

Nekorifik! nails it yet again…

The lovely Lawra Fredrickson dropped a bundle of loveliness upon me yesterday and I’ve been posing and preening in these outfits with mucho gusto! Regular readers wil be familiar with Lawra, as I mention her on here very frequently. As a designer her work fits in extremely well alongside Sn@tch and Gritty Kitty, as well as other predominately Neko orientated stores, and has great mixability. I often make outfits from a combination of Sn@tch, Gritty Kitty and Dutch Touch and find they go together really well and the overall look is perfect, not just for when I feel like wearing my cat ears, but also when I want to look edgy, urban and somewhat rock-chick like! So, what was in the folder? Uber cute dresses and a fetching argyle tank and shorts combo. As you can see from the Flickr shots they look utterly delightful, and of course the quality is good and the movement on the prim skirts is excellent as always. The pirate motif frock is just superb. It’s called ‘Tragic Crossbone Kitty’ and costs a mere L$125..amazing price for great gear.  I  like the gauze skirt layers and the textures that Lawra has chosen very much. indeed. I do have one minor quibble, and it’s based entirely on personal preference…but that is I think the holes in the gloves are a tad on the large size, so I’d perhaps elect for a smaller mesh design.. however I don’t know how feasible that is and it’s not even that important really… I actually chose to wear the pirate dress with my favourite Panjen gloves, and it looks brilliant. I added Gritty Kitty hair into the mix, as well as a necklace from Canimal and some boots (not shown) and voila! Bloody lovely even if I say so myself! Moving on to the other outfits Lawra sent me and there was another uber pretty frock that I am sure Shinji’ll squeal over because it’s got pink in it. I think I’ve mentioned before I don’t especially like pink, BUT sometimes when I’ve worn it I’ve really liked it and looked pretty hot into the bargain. This dress ticks those boxes for me and then some. Again I elected for Gritty Kitty hair but this time the hair had a flash of pink to it which compliments the dress puurrfectly..and this one looks really good with my Neko ears and tail. I also wore my Gritty Kitty Stitched Heart necklace. I love the belt detail that Lawra has slung over the skirt, which is nicely bouncy flouncy and as sticky outy as I personally like to go. ( I’m so technical with my prose aren’t I?) Finally, I’ll mention the argyle tank and shorts combo, and I’ve taken close up shots for this so alas you don’t get to actually see the shorts (Trust me, they look good!) I really love this tank top. It wears really well with jeans and again the texture is good, it doesn’t stretch madly across my slightly larger than average norks which is always a positive sign. The seams are fine too, again reflecting the care that Lawra is taking with her work. All in all these latest releases from Nekorifik! are hugely satisfying and make me ever-so-slightly moist with anticipation for the next releases from Lawra. Well done chick! I must admit I’ve been a tad lax in reading your blog recently but I’ve just sat and devoured it..such nice things on display!! Woot! Oh and guys, go see- nice tees for you as well! Yay!!
‘Cause I don’t have a wooden heart….

‘Cause I don’t have a wooden heart….

I’ve never really considered being a different avatar other than my normal physical appearance, but ‘Plywood Man’ is too much fun to not give it a try:) A review box was dropped on me by Peter Stindberg, and at first I was kind of ‘What the f***k?’ but now I’m smitten..Basically you are a figure created predominately from plywood textured cubes, with joints. It reminds me of one of those jointed artist’s model dolls that you can get from Ikea. Obviously in this get-up you can’t exactly wear your favourite Last Call gown, but if you’re having a virtual bad hair day or have a ginormous pus-ridden zit on your chops (Ok, we all know that’s not even possible but just pretend!) then this avatar is *perfect* Incidentally, don’t think you can wear this and be inconspicuous- you can’t. It’s a real conversation piece, and it looks really bonkers on the dancefloor! Me? I wore it whilst doing my afore-mentioned landscaping my island, and while doing a bit of virtual weeding…I had lots of planting to do and I didn’t want to get my dungarees dirty..!
I even went shopping in this get-up…and people were gob-smacked when they saw it was me. ( I don’t know if that’s a compliment or not!)
Plywood Man costs L$199 from SL Exchange and is Linden dosh well spent for a giggle. He’s transferable and modifiable, so you can imagine the fun you can have changing his textures, and I think he’d make a really effective walking billboard! I think Plywood Man may be a tad more popular with the guys than the girls but seriously, I really enjoyed wearing this a lot more than I thought I would..it was a refreshing alternative to looking drop-dead gorgeous all the time!
