I’ve just wasted 5 hours of my life….

…sorting through my inventory.   God only knows why I decided it was a good idea, but I did and I’ve managed to get all my clothes and hair  in specific folders.  Got rid of some absolutely awful stuff in the process as well ( Note to all readers, just because something is free does NOT mean that it’s good!) and have renamed LOADS of items to enable easier identification. Feel very clever but my eyeballs hurt, my mouse-arm is sore and I’ve still got my objects folder to go through…

I have managed to get rid of about 3000 items though! So many duplicates…. Anyhoo, my inv is now nearer the 12k mark.  I can hear some of you saying ‘Only 12k? What is she moaning about?!’ but remember that is 12k of stuff you have to carry around with you..My next mission will be to box and store a lot of stuff that I don’t use at present.  I’m aiming for a max of 10000 items in my inventory.  Wish me luck!

  1. Unless you really need to have all those gowns, jewels, cars, etc. ad inf. ad naus. along with you all the time, I’d get even more vicious. I was moaning in my beer (okay, my coffee) at the Blarney Stone this morning because I felt overloaded, and I have only 6k of material. But even that low a number will slow the opening and sorting of an inventory window, and is generally regarded to contribute to personal lag, halitosis, fallen arches and the general malaise of the Virtual Republic As We Know It.

  2. I totally agree- the irony of all this is in RL I am the LEAST materialistic person you could ever meet! Seriously, I balk at the idea of spending over £25 on a pair of jeans. ( I had a right tantrum in the office when I overheard one of the lads saying he was taking a pair of jeans back to Republic and would be £90 better off for it!!) In SL however, I’m just an utter clothes and gadgets fiend. I did get rid of a shit load of stuff though, some particularly nasty items indeed were taking up space. I’ve got lots of boxes to hide unused items in that I want to keep but the rest is going, and will probably be donated if the permissions are ok to a freebie box somewhere. I’m hitting the ‘Objects’ folder tonight..the gin is on standby 😉

  3. Carefull with your boxes… I had boxed up al most all my transportation objects (TARDIS(s), Spinners, Airships, cars….) then rezzed once to get the airship out and *poof* all gone on rez.

    about 40kL of gear…

Now I box and copy the box if I can…

  4. Head over to Vint or Veyron’s blogs, they’re on about a new tool that will backup your inventory for you… 😀

And you’re more of a clothes horse in SL than I am, which again is totally the opposite to me in RL… I’m happy slouching around in a pair of tracky bottoms and a vest most of the time.. It’s a sort of dyke look, or Sporty Spice look (actually, the same thing), even though I shudder at being called a dyke. I’m a lipstick lesbian and proud of it 😀

  5. I’m exactly the same:) At the mo it’s casual pants and a ‘Fat Face’
(bought in sale) top. When it’s warmer I practically live in vest tops and jeans…vests that cost £1.50 at Tescos mind, lol! Seriously, my spends actually go on SL these days, I love clothes in SL, they allow me to vent my inner clothes horse. If I had the money in RL I have no doubt that I would buy beautiful things..but I enjoy em more if they’re virtual.
(Oh, and in RL lipstick is a GIVEN. I have so many that you practically trip over them! That and my monthly hair trim, expensive moisturiser, perfume and lovely long nails..that’s as far as my vanity goes in RL)

  6. I use THinC (or however you spell them) boxes, spending the extra for copyable boxes. When I get in a mood, I just shovel stuff into them — putting sets that need to go together into their own prim first — and then stash the box. Reduces clutter and load time quite a bit.

(Gotta do it again soon [sigh].)
