Bonfire Kitty!

Bonfire Kitty!

So, did you have lots of November 5th fun?

There were quite a few celebrations across the grid and I had a delightful time enjoying the fireworks and festivities. I was surprised as to how cool fireworks in Second Life were! LeapyLee and I descended upon the ever lovely Francesca Cassini, owner of 46664 Island in world. Fran was going to be holding a display that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to attend and lovely lass that she is she set her fireworks off early just for me and Dad so we had our very own special display! What a treat:) The fireworks that Fran used were absolutely amazing; she explained that they were a gift and what an amazing present to give someone in SL. I was surprised as to how authentic it all felt replete with whizzes, bangs and beautiful bursts of colour. I never imagined fireworks in world could be so effective, and I’ve decided bonfire night in Second Life really does beat the real thing. Why stand outside in the cold and damp when you can have just as much fun sat at your PC? Later on in the evening, after real life intervened, I managed to sneak back in world and elected to attend another celebration, this time at Ozland. I’ve never been there before and they had a lovely bonfire blazing away, more fireworks to enjoy and some great music interspersed with snippets of history relating to the occasion and why we celebrate in the UK, a great touch!
Finally Leaps and I ventured down to our local, ‘The Crown and Pearl’, where the usual chaos was ensuing. Prad had some hefty rockets to release (now, *that* sounds dodgy as hell) and Hellspawned Xingian had discovered a fabbo trick-sit on the rockets, and you’re propelled skywards so you actually end up as part of the display, then you plummett back down to earth! Much drunken fun ensued and I can honestly say that I haven’t enjoyed November the Fifth as much!
Of course, knowing what to wear at such a function was going to be a problem. I dusted down my Kat’s Coat that I got last year from Artilleri, which is seriously divine, a virtual classic, make no doubt about it, but it seemed too posh for the occasion. Let’s face it, no-one gets poshed up for a bonfire party-it’s all about wrapping up warm and cozy isn’t it? Therefore I needed a warm, comfortable coat, and the coat that’s making the most headlines in all the blogs* is rather fabulous Military Coat By Aohura, so of course it would have been wrong had I not indulged. There’s no wonder that this coat is getting so much press, it’s bloody wonderful! If Linden Lifestyles were still around it would have had Salome and Sabrina squeeing until Christmas. For starters, it has employed sculpties to perfection, employing them in just the quantity to creat coat perfection in hoody form!Details such as pockets and toggles and scrunched up sleeves make this a coat that really turns heads and gets questions asked…and THEN you have to see the hood! OMG the hood is to die for..it looks brilliant down, but really comes into it’s own pulled up to keep your bonce toasty. I’ve deliberately NOT worn it like that in the photo purely so you’ll go and indulge…trust me on this, with a fab array of colours and a smashing fake-fur texture surrounding hood this is potentially the ONLY coat you’ll need this SL winter:)

One ‘Elle’ of a comeback!

One ‘Elle’ of a comeback!

You know I don’t like writing negative reviews..it’s actually something I dread because I hate receiving criticism myself. Contrary to popular belief I don’t like everything that is sent to me, as poor Angeleyes John discovered when she sent me some review items. Alas, they weren’t so hot, but I really felt that she had TONS more to offer, and said so. She needed to break away from the generic styles that Second Life is permeated with, and find her own way. I felt so awful though- it’s never nice to be told that your stuff ain’t so hot when you’ve worked hard on your wares. Anyways-this is a story with a VERY happy ending…because bless her she’s come back with a right old vengence, and sent me a note to tell me that she’s renamed and relocated. Her store is now called ‘Elle!’ and is located on Elite Island. She even said that my review made her take stock and up the ante, and HOW! See this outfit? Yep, she’s made this and it is EXCELLENT! It’s called ‘The Fashionista’ and features a jacket, pants and shirt for L$200, which is more than acceptable because she’s really worked hard on the textures! Alas, I’ve tried to do a close-up but when I zoom in I suddenly go bald (there’s a Jira for the issue apparently-it’s something to do with Nvidea graphics cards) so I haven’t been able to show you how good the cloth looks on the trousers and how realistic the creases on the shirt look. I love it, I think it’s an amazing improvement and just shows what can be achieved if you are serious about becoming a designer in Second Life! Her store sells a range of separates and ballgowns too, some of which are really stunning, so if you’re looking for that kind of thing I’d seriously suggest that you give Elle a spin. Prices range from L$40 up to L$400 for particularly special gowns, so there’s something for everyone. I really am excited by these improvements and I really love this outfit, so here’s to you Angeleyes John for NEVER giving up and showing what can be done when you really work hard at it! Good luck chuck! (Check out her store HERE)

New hair by Calla…presenting “The Sultry Collection”

New hair by Calla…presenting “The Sultry Collection”

In Second Life there are designers, and then there are DESIGNERS. The ones who combine sheer talent and enthusiasm and work bloody hard to build profitable businesses and retain their status quo in world despite the stiffest of competition. This is no mean feat when you consider the economic downturn…and it means that the reason they are surviving is because what they make is so good, so special, that even in times like these it’s encouraging us to part with our dosh because we just KNOW it’ll be worth it. These are the people who understand that word of mouth goes a long way, and don’t skimp on their generosity to clients. They know that avatars value thier lindens, and expect to recieve the best goods they possibly can. Make no bones about it, catering to your audience is one of the biggest challenges any content creator can face. Keeping your fan base in the face of new competition is some achievement, and keeping your collections fresh in spite of all the challenges is enough to give you a permanent migraine. I couldn’t do it, I know that much! Consider this then, you’re raising a family (of six kids!) and you’re still finding time to create, prim by prim, some of the most glorious hair in world. You must be a bloody miracle worker…or a masochist? Well either way, step forward Tigerlily Koi, who has upped the standard of Second Life hair yet again with her latest release, the aptly named ‘Sultry Collection’, which is an entirely new range of stupendously textured and colorific hair! Now, you know me..I like my bobs..BUT this collection is so utterly lovely it persuaded me to indulge in all sorts of styles, including the stunner pictured here, ‘Celsia’. I’d wanted some new bunches for ages and these are spot on. Of course, being Calla releases means all the styles are scripted for perfect sizability (Ooh,I just made a word-yay me!) and the movement is just divine. The hair bounces beautifully, and my Dad was utterly transfixed by it during a try-on session round at Kitty Manor ( Note-he was watching me try the hair on, we weren’t both trying it because that would have been just plan weird) This hair is pure class dear readers, sheer skill and artistry combined, and even though I’m not really a fan of all things flouncy Calla hair is just so good that I cannot resist it. It’s like diets, you can stick at em and do really well, and then someone brings sweeties in to work..so you have one..then another..and before you know it you’ve completely given in. I for one cannot fight the Calla urge anymore!
Go with it people, and pay Tigerlily a visit. There are demos a-plenty to try on (so much of the fun is in the trying!) Choose wisely though- these aren’t cheap hairstyles in either appearance or price. BUT at L$300 you are buying sheer class. There are 140 colours to choose from (Oh my!!) and the link I’ve provided HERE takes you straight to the new stuff. Incidentally, there’s a nice gift on the desk for you to enjoy because Calla has just celebrated it’s second anniversary, and it’s certain to be celebrating many, many more. I’ve also taken some Flickr pictures to demonstrate just a fraction of the styles on offer, which you can see by clicking my Flickr banner on the left. The focus is on texture, and more texture and sublime shaping and basically making you look completely frigging gorgeous. My fave styles apart from Celsia? Gerbera, Gladiolus and Argentine…but it’s so hard to choose. I haven’t even told you yet that SOME of the styles come with hats as well, yes, Winter is surely catered for at Calla! I have long hair in real life but it ain’t a patch in what Tigerlily creates..I want her to come and style my hair in real-life and make it look this good!!

Congratulations Tigerlily on all your hard work, it’s certainly aroused this Kitty’s passion:)

Click HERE to visit, but be warned-Calla is BUSY!! (Another good sign!) and take some serious spends with you!
