The Drax Files: World Makers Episode 13 ‘Creations For Parkinsons’

The Drax Files: World Makers Episode 13 ‘Creations For Parkinsons’

I absolutely adore this video series that Draxtor is producing and I think he’s just uploaded his most moving episode to date.

The video features 86 year old Fran Serenade, who uses Second Life to engage with friends and partake in activities such as horseback riding and experiencing the metaverse as a beautiful Mermaid avatar.

Fran has Parkinsons Disease, and by engaging in Second Life she is able to enjoy herself free from the limitations that her condition often puts upon her.

Even better, it would appear that her participation  in Second Life is proving to be a great source of therapy for her condition and Fran is convinced that her experiences in Second Life are enabling positive changes in her real life condition too!

This is such a fantastic insight into the charitable sector and how Second Life can be used to assist and educate about serious medical conditions.

Not only that but both Fran and her daughter are really beautiful people, and I could not help but be moved by this episode.  (In fact, I’m going to visit ‘Creations For Parkinsons’ and say ‘Hi!’)

Keep ’em coming Drax; you really deserve an award for the fantastic work that you’re doing for our virtual homeland!

THE DRAX FILES: WORLD MAKERS EPISODE 12: Ole Etzel

THE DRAX FILES: WORLD MAKERS EPISODE 12: Ole Etzel

“The screen is my canvas on which I paint in a digital way” says Machinima artist Ole Etzel.

A great quote from a talented guy, the latest episode in Draxtor’s web series introduces us to Ole Etzel who uses the metaverse to bring his comedic creation, Mr. Bones, to (second) life.

Ole creates entertaining adventures around the central character, often incorporating his own musical recordings into his pieces to express a mood.

Yet another amazing and inspiring way that Second Life is being used by a resident to bring their virtual dreams to life!

The Drax Files: World Makers Episode 11: Dwarfins

The Drax Files: World Makers Episode 11: Dwarfins

Better late than never right? And I confess I’m late to the  blogging party for the latest ‘The Drax Files: World Makers’ episode (episode eleven already!!)  but not for any other reason than sheer tardiness on my part.

Fact is, this episode is just as entertaining as recent editions. It’s beautifully edited and this round features the Dwarfins, those strange non-playable characters that you see in distant parts of the grid.

To be honest I didn’t know much about them at all until I viewed this episode, and I was struck by the enthusiasm  of programmer Dante Spectre and his wife, Judy Chestnut, who with artsist Jaimie Hancroft bring the Dwarfins to (second) life!

Yet again this series  proves what a deeply-layered and complicated virtual environment Second Life is, and check out the great  intro to this episode as well!

Keep ‘em coming Drax, they just get better and better!

The Drax Files: World Makers [ Episode 10: Robin Sojourner]

The Drax Files: World Makers [ Episode 10: Robin Sojourner]

The latest episode of  ‘The Drax Files: World Makers’ has dropped, and it’s one that really resonates with me.

You see, the lady featured is Robin Sojourner, who I know better as Robin Wood, the creator of some of the most beautiful Pagan artworks I have ever seen.  Her work adorns my most beloved deck of Tarot cards (The Robin Wood Tarot) and her artworks adorn many a treasured tome on my Witchy bookshelves in my real life home.  She’s also the proponent of the theory of cat gravity, something to which I fully prescribe. I guess that you could say I am a bit of a fan..

When I joined Second Life I wasn’t aware that Robin used it as a vehicle for her creativity, so I was of course delighted to discover that she has an in-world presence. Not only that, but as I’ve blogged before, Robin has a fabulous Wiccan Learning Centre in world that you can visit to discover more about this particular Pagan path.

However this episode isn’t about Robin’s Pagan persuasions, but about the way that she uses Second Life.  Robin waxes lyrical about the virtues of our metaverse, and how it can be an essential tool for creative development, arguing that there’s not much difference between real life work and engagement in the virtual, and that both are equally valid.

I adored this episode. It was so lovely to see someone I really admire featured, and I also think that Robin may actually be Mrs. Santa Claus! (If the gentleman in the video is indeed Robin’s partner as I am speculating, than check out his amazing beard! What a guy!)

Here’s to another fantastic instalment of this essential machinima series; great work as always Drax!
