Wearing a face light in Second Life should be second nature to your avatar, just as applying moisturiser with sunscreen should be in real life. Put simply, you really aren’t dressed without it, and yes they make all the difference, as I’ve blogged before. Kitty just wouldn’t be seen dead without her face light. They iron out all the blemishes and make you look simply radiant, dahling! Alas, some can make you look a tad *too* radiant (There’s nothing worse than realising your face in a nightclub is brighter than the glowsticks on the dancefloor!) Muism are hoping that their latest release will redress the balance. They’ve welcomed a new team member, Asuka Maximus, and he is already busily creating ‘wonderful things’ for the brand, and and their new facelight is no exception. It’s called ‘Nature Shine Face’ (Kittynote:If I was making stuff like this I’d probably call it ‘Shiny Goblight’) and according to the blurb on Muisms’s blog : ” ..This natural facelight is a technology that achieves the best effect in brightness based on calculation from the height of the sun and direction of the avatar..” It’s also optimised for windlight and the light source is based on 4 different skin tones, so in theory it should suit most wearers perfectly. BUT in a market where you can actually pick up some nice, practical face lights for absolutely nothing, is it worth shelling out for one? Well I’ve tested this one and found it to be very good, BUT I do have quibbles, albeit minor ones. It’s scripted so you have to input commands to alter your appearance, which isn’t a major issue I know but I’d prefer it in a menu or small HUD format. I like the fact that it’s been designed to be responsive, but I just find inputting commands to be a hassle purely because I have a memory like a sieve and forget the commands to use. A menu replete with options makes it easier for dimwits like me! If you currently use a freebie face-light and would like to try a slightly more expensive one with more options then I do suggest giving this a spin, but remember to keep the commands notecard handy! On to other Muism musings, and I’ve just checked out some of the latest bags in their collection, and the ‘Bottle Clear’ bag blew me away! It is clearly ahead of the rest (Oh that was a lame joke Kitster!)being a beautifully structured see through bag with great detailing on the edge and on the strap (seriously, when you zoom in you can see all the ickle details that make it so spesh!) There’s a water bottle and a magazine in the bag, and these are both perfect. In fact, what makes this so UBER brilliant is you can wear the water bottle, and a fab little animation kicks it so that you take a glug from the bottle and fold your arms and ..oh go into the store and try on the demo and see for yourself! Put it this way, you KNOW quality when you see thow much care has gone into creating the bottle. There are two purchase options for the bag, either handheld or on your shoulder, or a pack of featuring both options. My only quibble is individually each bag is L$300, which is a tad pricey. ( The pack featuring both styles is L$550) The demos are free, and you can really have fun with them in store. While you’re there, hop on this Handbag AO and have a play with that too-it’s excellent! A home of his own..
As I mentioned a few posts ago, my RL Dad is in SL. LeapyLee Cliffhanger, as he is called, is doing amazingly well for a newbie, and I’m really proud of him. He’s especially enjoying hanging around ‘The Pig’n’Horn’ in Penryn. I think he likes the mad atmosphere and the..erm..animals? LOL ( Don’t we all) I decided I’d give him a few weeks in world to see if he’d stick at it, and I’m so proud to say that he has. With this in mind then, I’ve decided to treat him to his own pad, and it’s something I’ve had my eyes on for a looonnnggg time, but I couldn’t justify the expense..but hey, it’s my Dad..had to treat him, huh?I don’t know what it is about apartments, but ever since the Halifax ad in the late 1980’s (Remember it? A gorgeous guy lives in a stunning Docklands flat and ‘Easy like Sunday morning’ by The Commodores is playing in the background) I’ve wanted one. There’s something so cosy and romantic about them, even though it’s in an urban environment. Anyways, ages ago I was on SL Exchange mooching around when I discovered THIS
Isn’t it beautiful? It’s called ‘The Lodo Loft’ by Ravish Tyne, and cost the princely sum of L$1500. Now before you balk at the cost, let’s have a look at what you get, which is this deliciously textured and beautifully lit creation, replete with pictures and windows featuring a selection of views. You can choose from various cityscapes such as New York, Tokyo, Istanbul and Glagow, but it won’t be those that capture you so much as the lighting. The reflection from the windows into your room is quite simply breathtaking…It’s amazing that someone has been able to capture the light so beautifully and it is without a doubt one of the best effects that I have ever seen in a SL build. It’s almost worth having one of these just so you can bask in the faux light..it’s that wonderful ( set lighting to midday for best effects) The three framed pictures on the wall are changeable to match your mood, and you can add your own textures should you wish. The menu’s aren’t glitchy, it rezzes quickly and easily and the notecard is exceptionally easy to follow…All in all, it’s sky-box perfection:) Of course, I’ve kitted it out with all sorts of blokey furniture, including a bar, but I’ll share that with you at a later date…
If you want to try apartment living out for yourself pop along to Fivepenny where you can test this out out before you buy. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.
In Memoriam: Yves Saint Laurent
Fashionistas all over the grid should don their best black pantsuit, turtleneck or blazer today and wear it in loving remembrance of Yves Saint Laurent who has died at the age of 71. Without his influence, the fashion that we love so much in the real world, and of course on the grid, would be completely different; for it was Yves who created some of the most iconic fashion statements which have since become everyday garb for a lot of us. Don’t believe me? Well, it was Yves who introduced us to such essential items Yves Saint Laurent was the first designer to produce ready-to-wear collections, and was behind the ‘Beat Look’ which has recently regained popularity in the mainstream (although true aficionados know that such classic style never goes away).
Despite his personal insecurities he was a fashion leader, not a follower, and was the first designer to feature a black model in one of his shows. This seems so commonplace to us now that it’s hard to imagine a world where such a move world be considered controversial!
Wikipedia has more on his fashion and features links to websites where you can see some of his most beautiful creations. RIP Yves, your sense of style will never be forgotten.
