SL Bloggers – How hard do you think it is to find a relationship in SL? If you have an SL relationship, have you met in the physical world? Would you meet them? Do you think it would change your SL relationship if you met?

I genuinely don’t think that it’s hard to find a relationship in SL at all. There are plenty of places to meet people and because of the nature of the environment it’s easy to  fall into like with someone who shares similar interests to yourself..it’s only natural that would develop further.

I think because of the nature of the medium, relationships that develop in-world have an intensity that real life relationships don’t have. They also seem to develop at a much faster pace than in reality too, have you noticed that? It’s as though the virtual medium somehow intensifies the feelings.

Although I don’t have a romantic relationship with anyone in-world, I have very many friends and in particular, my best friend is a Second Life resident. I would tell her anything and everything, I utterly adore her and she gives me support when I need it, wise counsel when I don’t and some serious laughs in between. I firmly believe that friendship transcends any medium, and although ours is confined to a virtual world, I know that I can call on her for help should I need to. Although I haven’t met her in real life, I do think it would be nice to BUT it isn’t a necessity because our friendship continues to flourish regardless. What purpose would meeting in real life serve? I don’t think it would diminish our relationship, but I don’t think it could possibly make it any stronger than it already is either.

The only difference is that I’d be able to give her a real life hug:)
