SKIN FAIR 2015 is almost here!

So the blogger previews have opened for Skin Fair 2015 gang and bugger me it’s AMAZING.

This year is by FAR the best Skin Fair we’ve had in Second Life, I kid you not!

There is so much to love on show that basically I know you are going to a) spend all your Lindens b) Probably sell your virtual organs and c) expire from excitement! 

At least when you do you’ll leave a beautiful virtual corpse, huh?

So, blogging SKIN FAIR will be my priority over the forthcoming days. I can’t blog everyone, as much as I would love to, so I’ll be selecting some skins that really stood out to me, as well as make-ups and attachments (ooer missus!) and hopefully doing them justice on these pages, and on Flickr too. My mind has already been blown. SKIN FAIR 2014 opened my eyes up to NAR MATTARU, and I’ve been in love with the brand ever since. Guys and gals, you should see what Jade Glazner has dropped on us this year. Let me introduce you to ‘Kyrin’.

I WILL do a PROPER review  of this astonishing skin over the next few days but I have to go to bed due to RL work in the morning, although I desperately want to stay home and play with skins all day tomorrow.  Alas that isn’t an option!

KITTY READS: Men Of The Year Magazine

‘Men Of The Year’ Magazine launched in February, but unfortunately life was a bit on the busy side for me, and then I got a stinking cold, so I’m late featuring it on the blog.  But it makes no matter whenever you choose to read this fantastic publication because it’s full of stunning photography and great features. The best thing about this quality read  is that it celebrates male avatar styling diversity throughout. ‘The Interview’ section that starts on page 35 is absolutely breathtaking, and some of the fashion spreads would make real life magazines jealous!  If you’re looking for gorgeous portraits of some absolutely breathtaking male avatars, along with inspiration for your look, then you’ll find it here.  In my opinion it’s one of the best Second Life publications out there, and you can read volume one for free on Issuu.

THE DRAX FILES WORLD MAKERS #27: NYLON PINKNEY

Anyone who knows me even an ickle, tiny, weeny bit in-world knows that I have a bit of a NYLON PINKNEY obsession. If I had to confess to super fan-girling over a particular person in Second Life, then Nylon (unluckily for her) is the one.  Oh, and yes I also fan-girl squee on a regular basis over Strawberry Singh, Draxtor Despres, Torley Linden, Hyasynth Tiramisu, Allegory Malaprop,Canary Beck and Codebastard Redgrave, to name check but a few of the awesome avatars that inhabit our Second Life.

 For me, Nylon encapsulates everything that I love in real life, and she brings that all over into Second Life in her own inimitable fashion. She’s the SLebrity in Second Life I would struggle to talk to the most  because faced with her in-world I’m worried that I would open my mouth and say something like “You’re so cool” and faint.  (Basically embarrassing myself even more than I normally do, which for me would be pretty impressive, don’t you think?) I did actually run into Nylon and Polyester at an event a few years ago and engage them in very limited conversation actually, but they’re too cool for me!

Nylon’s quirky style and her amazing creativity just never fail to impress and amaze me. I always look forward to new releases from her, and when it’s an ARCADE round, well, oh man, I know which Gacha machine will be getting my Lindens first!  I don’t really know why I’m such a fan,  but I think it’s because of the way that she uses colours in her artworks  and the style in which  that she actually draws.  I think my admiration is rooted in a little bit of envy to be honest, purely because I covet her art so much.  She has an amazing imagination. If I was talented enough to be able to draw then Nylon’s approach would be what I would most like to evoke; it just flows and she captures the spirit of the avatars she portrays in her work perfectly.  There’s a warped, edgy humour in the workshe creates too that really resonates with me, and a vitality in the expressions she portrays on her digital canvas. Her style is bold, brazen and unafraid, and it’s always been my opinion that when you wear NYLON PINKNEY you’re (to borrow a Torley Linden phrase) ‘amplifying your awesome’ to the power of ten zillion!

Can you imagine how excited I was to see that Drax was featuring Nylon as the next avatar to focus upon in his seminal THE DRAX FILES:WORLD MAKERS series? (Number 27 already!!)

I confess to being super curious to see what Nylon was like in RL and she looks awesome, as does her twin sister, who happens to be the ever incredible POLYESTER PARTRIDGE. Confession time: I never knew they were sisters, let alone twins,  but it was always obvious they were incredibly in tune with each other because their styles are so complimentary. The fact that they’re twins just  blew my brain if I’m honest. Polyester makes stunning jewellery which she releases under the ‘Yummy‘ label, and trust me, it really, really is.  I do have a confession to make though, I didn’t know they were behind the PAPER COUTURE label until I saw the video! (I feel incredibly stupid for not knowing because now I do know, it’s kind of obvious. I never said I was intelligent! Anyway, turn on the video and transport yourself to another realm with the help of your guide, Draxtor Despres,  and thank the pixel Gods that Draxtor creates these amazing glimpses into our second lives. I assure you our real world would be  far less colourful without them!

Kitty Loves..PXL Sweet Lips

It’s all about the mesh these days isn’t it? (“It’s all about the mesh, ’bout the mesh, no sculpties!”)  Frankly I just  can’t be me until I have my mesh body and my ears attached. Then, of course, there’s my hair, clothes, tattoos and piercings, footwear and blimey, I’m exhausted just thinking about this! In RL,  I’m far less work.  Unless I’m in the office I’m usually sporting a onesie of some description and I care not a jot.  I tried a few of the mesh mouths when they first came out and despite there being appliers galore out there for them, I just didn’t like the way they made me look. I’m really not into trout pouting. I mourn for Meg Ryan’s  previous gorgeous smile and the idea of sticking anything into your lips to make them larger is just madness to me. I do have an awesome Urban Decay Lip Plumper in RL that makes my pout more luscious in times of need, but there’s some strange alchemy going on with that stuff. It makes your mouth tingle in a way that’s burgeoning upon the unpleasant and the effect is incredibly temporary. A good hard snog will suffice just as much if you ask me.

But back to the issue at hand; mesh mushes. Are they worth all the excitement? Until yesterday, I would have given you a big fat “NO”, but guys, I’ve changed my mind courtesy of this new release from PXL, called ‘Sweet Lips’. I’d observed a couple of Plurk buddies wax lyrical about the virtues of these newly released enhancements but when my good friend Gidge Uriza said they were pretty awesome out of the box I knew I had to try them, because for a start I’m very nosey and for another thing I hate being left out, LOL 🙂 Also, they looked absolutely banging on her, so  I zoomed over to the store where there were quite a few other avatars picking up demos. I tentatively picked up mine and retreated to the comfort of a sandbox to play about with my gob. (Which sounds unbelievably dodgy!)

I was entranced. These are incredibly easy to fit, adjust and wear and I was really pleased with how well I could match them to my skin tone without using appliers. Lip piercings are included (but can be removed via HUD) and I’m guessing more appliers will be forthcoming from a lot of the best skin makes in world, especially seeing as GLAM AFFAIR included some with their FIFTY LINDEN FRIDAY offering this week, this beautiful ‘Brandi Sweet’ skin in America tone.

Let me draw your attention to this featured picture because guys, I haven’t done anything with it at all; it’s a completely raw shot from SL, using the Strawberry Singh Close-up Windlight setting, and as you can see these sweet lips look pretty darn perfect don’t they? I’m incredibly impressed. Truth be told they could do with a minor tweak on my part because the fit is a little off on the left hand side as you look at the picture, so you can see a little glitch if you zoom in, BUT that’s me, not the product. A little tweak and these bad boys will be ripe for puckering up and chasing boys all over the grid, as is my usual fashion!

Incidentally you can change the colour of your lips via the HUD, but to be honest I’m not going to be messing about with that. I’ll wait for properly textured appliers I think; purely based on personal preference and the fact that I’m very lazy and cannot be bothered with faffing around with colours etc. Besides, I’m very good at breaking things, and although I think these are worth every Linden I paid for them (L$650) I don’t want to have to buy them again!

I actually don’t think that I’ll be taking these ‘Sweet Lips’ off now that I’ve fitted them, and I really am looking forward to lots of lipstick combinations coming out for them too. I know that like GLAM AFFAIR, IZZIE’S has already released appliers so I’ve no doubt that other skin brands will be following thick and fast. Exciting times!

Another point to note is that these lips are advertised as ’01’, which to my mind, and judging by the spaces left in the vendor in store, means that there will be further releases coming to the grid. On the strength of these alone I cannot wait, my only wish is that the next edition steers away from the gormless guppy-like pout, and perhaps give us a bit of a smile. It’s all very well being all fierce and fashionable but sometimes you just want a bit of a grin, you know?
