Non-Sl Related…A note for the SATC publicity gurus…

A minor rant..but a rant all the same.

‘Sex And The City’ movie-marketing-people – If you’re going to feature a fictional website in a movie, you have to realise that people will try and visit that website when they got home, just to see if it’s really there. Embrace this- it’s good publicity for your movie after all, so use the opportunity to your advantage, don’t sabotage it! With that in mind, can someone please tell the creators of Carriebradshaw.com to a) use a spellchecker (in one article the word ‘perfect’ is spelled as ‘prefect’ numerous times and it is VERY ANNOYING!) and b) at least try and include different articles, not just copy the same articles onto subsequent pages. It’s very disappointing, because you just know that Carrie would not stand for such a thing….

Anyway, crass attempt at weaving SL into this post… Second Life fashion designers, any ‘Sex and the City’ inspired clobber coming our way???

Chel Norfolk asked me to pose for her…

I’ve been so blessed to be photographed by some of the most talented artists in SL, and I’m so honoured that the amazingly talented Chel asked me to model for her. I think it is STUNNING work and as I write this I am grinning from ear to ear:)Thank you Chel, your work is amazing! ( If you would like to see more of Chel’s wonderful imagery please click here)  Also, as I was out last night watching the ‘Sex and the City’ movie (Loved it!) the site surpassed 13000 hits.

You all know how much that means to me, so thank you!

Got SL’ang Life?

Got SL’ang Life?

At lunchtime I was chuffed to find a ‘discreetly’ packaged booklet upon my doormat, eagerly anticipating my arrival….It’s the kind of package that must drive the Postie mad wondering what depravities are concealed from the naked eye by the thin black-plastic wrap, replete with nondescript address label ..Although I don’t really want to spoil the illusion, it certainly wasn’t my monthly subscription to ‘Busty Brenda’s Bollock Bonanza’. It was the latest copy of SL’ang Life, a Polish-produced glossy 45 page colour magazine, all about Second Life. SL’ang Life’s mission is to provide information about the virtual world we love so much in a non-electronic format, and it certainly looks the part. It’s backed financially by RL advertisers which means that the whole production doesn’t feel cheap, and the latest issue is bursting at the seams with features on the virtual economy, art, science, in-world legal matters, fashion and religion..it’s your virtual world equivalent of a Sunday supplement! It’s not a bad read, and for me it bridges the gap nicely across those moments when I can’t use my laptop but am desperate to read SL related content..so my copies are neatly lined up in my bathroom for me to dip into when I’m laying special brown eggs in my porcelain nest:) However, there are a few issues with it that require addressing. For a start, if you’re going to produce an English language magazine that is translated from another, it’s imperative that you have someone check the copy to make sure that it scans properly. I also think that the production team needs to concentrate on finding their niche market – the copy is so plentiful and diverse that the magazine feels somewhat fragmented, as though a bunch of articles landed on the Editor’s desk and he gathered them all up into a bunch and published them. SL’ang Life seems to want to be the virtual world equivalent of ‘Time’, ‘The Economist’ and ‘Hello’ in one user-friendly package, but I’m afraid that it doesn’t quite pull it off…yet. I’m confident though that once it has found it’s identity amongst all the other metaverse publications it will be able to give them a real run for their money. My favourite articles this month were about Virtual Dublin and a beautifully illustrated article about religious buildings in Second Life. Oh, and the fashion pages weren’t bad either!

Ooh look, it’s Jez!

Ooh look, it’s Jez!

It’s not very often you see ol’Jezmond in-world with me, uber WoW goblin twatter that he is, but I managed to persuade him to join me for some photos last night. I thought I’d publish this picture of us together so you could drool at the new skin (Millage Valenti)and hair I got for him..looks good huh?

At the moment Jez’s loyalties are somewhat divided between ‘World of Warcraft’ and his new MMORPG, ‘The Age of Conan’. If you haven’t seen the latter yet you may well be blown away, because visually it is stunning. It actually reminds me a lot of Second Life, but the detail and animations are on a completely different level. For example, there’s a public house which has a cat wandering around within it, and the animation on the cat has to be seen to be believed, It’s so realistic! Of course with a new MMORPG launch there are always hiccups, and there are tons of patches being released for Conan, as well as lots of griping on various forums about issues with the game. Jez’s verdict? He’s enjoying it, the interface took some getting used to but overall his experience is a relatively positive one. However, he isn’t sure that it will keep him interested beyond the much anticipated release of ‘Lich King’ for WoW…
