I’m off on my jollies…

I’m off on my jollies…

..just for a few days I’m off for a short break down to London for a culture injection.  Hopefully I’ll get to take in a show, visit the British Museum for the umpteenth time and get very, very drunk.  I’m sure you’re going to miss me dreadfully and will be at a complete loss for what to do with yourselves without me to entertain you but fear not dear reader, here’s a suggestion to keep you occupied until I return next week, and that is..HUNT YOURSELF SILLY!

Yes, it’s a veritable banquet on a stick of hunts in summer and many start 01 June.  Scroll down the page and you’ll see my mention of the ‘Make Him Over Hunt’ ,but just so you know the ‘SL Discovery Hunt’ is STILL ON until June 30th. The aptly titled ‘OMG it’s another hunt’ begins tomorrow. It’s supposed to be about having fun this one, so look for the cupcakes and expect something silly as your reward. The ‘Fun in the Sun‘ hunt is all about items to enjoy outdoors and that begins  01 June and lasts until the 30th.  Look out for beachballs for that one!  Finally, there’s a hunt called ‘Bedtime Treasures’ that will again be running throughout June .  A heads up; ‘Agent Orange’ is going to be featuring items in some of these hunts, and of particular interest is the news that their gift for ‘Bedtime Treasures’ will be based on the book, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.  ( This will also be followed up by a ‘Max’ pyjama/avatar in the very near future..so if you’re a fan, look out!)

I’ve just found a great blog that will keep you up to date with all things hunt-related, called ‘SLHunts’

make sure you also check out ‘The Hunt Locations’ which currently features a massive post relating to the ‘Through The Looking Glass’ hunt that is on through July.

Lots to keep you occupied then, but be careful you don’t get huntstroke!  Oh, and if you can’t be bothered with all this hunting malarky, how about a pyjama party at Republik instead?  I’m hoping Amanda is reading this so she can reply in comments  with the details because I’ve forgotten start-times but I do know that it’s a Candy Girls event happening tomorrow and should be an absolute scream..so make sure you get your best jim-jams ready! (Obviously I won’t be there so have a great time for me!)

Oh, and one last thing before I go…..

Oh So Sophia!

Oh So Sophia!

Chigadee London, the creative force behind ‘Couture Chapeau’ is hosting a retrospective of fashion worn by Sophia Loren. Sophia is a living breathing fashion icon and even though she must be 102 by now she still looks wonderful. At this point I have to be honest, and tell you that although I recognise the influence that Ms Loren has had on high fashion I cannot get over her penchant for wearing fur, which makes it very hard for me to be subjective about the subject at hand. Fortunately, Chigadee has concentrated on hats and they are quite simply excellent. Chigadee has chosen some particularly famous photographs of Ms Loren and created virtual copies of her headwear for you all to enjoy. In this quick snap I’m wearing a demo of my fave from the collection, but as you can see the most striking (and perhaps most famous) hat is the ginormous red number behind me. Chigadee is going to be featuring other famous stars and their headwear over the summer, so if hats are your thing then use this taxi and zoom on over tothe store and catch a peek at this very clever collection.

Time To Say Goodbye…to Miriel

Time To Say Goodbye…to Miriel

Miriel Enfield is leaving Second Life, and I for one am absolutely gutted by this news  that was announced discreetly and without drama upon her blog as follows:

THURSDAY, MAY 21, 2009
Some time in the next few weeks, I will be permanently closing the shop and getting rid of the sim.If you want anything — eyes, jewelry, pictures of the forest — it’s best to do so soon.

If you’ve read Kittywitchin’ since its inception you will be well aware that I rarely stray from wearing Miriel eyes. Nothing else has ever satisfied my requirements in quite the same way…and I’m so sad that I won’t be able to peruse the wares on display in her beautiful store anymore.

There has in my opinion never been an eye colour palette to rival the selection available from Miriel’s store. The iris colours are utterly beautiful and they’re so artfully blended that they make your mouth moisten with anticipation. Add to that the excellent menu purchase system and unbelievably reasonable prices and you couldn’t have wished for a more statisfying Second Life shopping experience. Contrary to popular belief I don’t own the entire range, although I wish I did, but I do own a selection of Miriel eyes and what a wonderful addition to my inventory they are too.
Put simply, I’m not ‘dressed’ unless I am wearing my Miriel eyes. (Big or standard for the win, as realistic were always a tad on the small side for my fancy:)

A lot of my peers in the Second Life Bloggerverse are equally saddened by this news, but it’s hardly surprising. You knew where you were with Miriel’s designs, understood that you were getting quality (you only had to look at the stunning design of her sim to realise that) and you were guaranteed great value for money. There aren’t many content creators in world who can satisfy completely such a stringent criteria, but Miriel could.

You may think that I’m being a tad melodramatic here, but the fact is we’re losing a Second Life institution that I personally wish I’d appreciated and supported more upon these pages.

I know others feel the same way, and wished that we’d blogged about her more consistently. I feel ashamed about that because I am always raving about Miriel’s work to all and sundry and now I feel as though we all took the genius of Miriel for granted. The fact is her creations (and not just her eyes although they are my favourite, but also her stunning jewellery, hair and shapes) are so good you just didn’t need to keep returning to the store to make purchase after purchase!

As I mentioned before I don’t know the reasons behind the decision to close, but it’s a fair assumption to make that it may be something to do with the current economic climate. Times are hard for all of us, and if that is the case then it’s an especially cruel irony that a lack of appreciation may well have contributed to the brand’s demise, despite it being held in such high esteem by so many people.

I don’t know when the store will close, so I implore you to scrounge up the few Lindens that you have in your pocket and go to Miriel’s sim before it disappears forever. Take photographs of the sim and revel in the area’s beauty and when you’ve sated your creative urges go into the store and splurge on eyes, hair and jewellery to your hearts content. Work as graceful as this will likely never be seen in Second Life again and such talent cannot be repeated nor replaced.

Finally, I have no idea if Miriel will ever see this post but I just want to write a message for her:

Miriel,

Thank you so much for sharing your creative talents with Second Life. Your work will always be cherished by those of us who purchased it in-world and I hope you will be comforted to know that you made so many of us very happy. For me you contributed a vital element to the fundamental development of Kitty’s appearance.
Your designs are exemplary, and Kitty (and I’m sure many other avatars) will continue to wear Miriel eyes long after the doors to your store have closed for good.
Whatever your future holds I wish you every success..

Hugs and Noms,
Kitty =^..^=

Kitty’s Crowning Glory

Kitty’s Crowning Glory

Second Life is no different to real life in some surprising ways. It’s so easy when you’re totally immersed in all things metaversal to completely forget about friendships you once fostered. And again, just like real life that is of course a huge source of regret, so it’s always nice to hear from those that you hold dear but haven’t had the chance to tell them in a long while..Sullybaby Gomez is a prime example of such a person. I haven’t seen her in a long while so was delighted to open my inventory earlier and spot a note accompanying this crown, ‘St Edwards’. Well if Edward thinks for one moment that he’s getting his crown back he can go swivel, because it is MINE. I’ve been poncing around in my studio adopting many a different position whilst wearing nothing but this glorious headgear and my emperor’s new clothes. Isn’t it divine? I noted on Sully’s profile that she’s mentioned that she’s crown maker to the Lindens which raises all sorts of delightful prospects..I wonder if M Linden has a glittering golden M upon his bonce on office days? Torely could have a glittering ruby and emerald number…anyway, I digress. If you role-play or just want a crown of your very own then I suggest you get in touch with Sully pronto. She’s been making these for a while now and is an absolute expert, and I can already see subtle improvement in her designs. This is her best crown by far and is an utter joy to behold. It’s uber primtastic but hey, what do you expect? It’s a crown FFS! Every fashionista needs a crown, don’t you think?

IM Sullybaby Gomez in world if you’re interested, and thanks so much for the wonderful gift Sully!
