Le Geek c'est Chic!

GEEKS ‘N’ NERDS is in full swing, and to my surprise I managed to get into the sim without any problems, which to be honest, I really didn’t expect at all. Of course, it was busy, but now the majority of creators have set out their wonderful wares it’s even more enthralling than it was yesterday. Something I didn’t expect though was to fall in love with a skin at this event.  I’m loving NAR MATTARU pretty exclusively these days,  so don’t really feel the need to look further afield (with the exception of the odd BELLEZA or GLAM AFFAIR number), but by ‘eck, I spotted this LUMAE skin and I did the cardinal sin..I bought it WITHOUT TRYING A DEMO!! (What is it that I tell you guys to do all the time? DEMO ALL THE THINGS!) But, at L$100 per tone I was feeling, shall we say ‘adventurous’, and something in me just knew this would be a good investment. Turns out to be an EPIC investment; in fact I’m absolutely delighted. This skin has everything I’m looking for, beautiful tone and detail and even comes with options that I wouldn’t expect for the price. I normally wouldn’t have gone for such a slim brow either, but  I took a risk and it has actually paid off! I look bloody lovely, even if I say so myself!

This skin will be worn a LOT by me, and here’s why; the lips are scrumptious and the perfect shade of red.  It will look blinking brilliant when I wear it with my favourite make-up and eyeliner layers. At the moment I’m sporting it with my go-to eyeliner (the ever awesome Black Eyeliner Series 8 from MONS) and it looks ruddy fab doesn’t it?!

I’m also wearing the rather fabulous new necklace, ‘Timey Wimey Things’,  from CAE, which is an absolutely essential item for any self-respecting DOCTOR WHO fan. Of course, there are tonnes of Whovian-inspired goodies at this event, but this double necklace is incredibly special.  It features a little Tardis-style charm, along with one that looks rather like a sonic screwdriver, and there’s a fez and a bow-tie, because we all know that they’re the epitome of cool. There’s also a key on a separate strand, could that be a Tardis key I wonder? I’m not sure, but what I am sure of is that CAE always makes beautiful jewellery that looks totally authentic and is worth every single Linden spent. This is beautifully made, and a pleasure to wear. Incidentally, the necklaces are HUD controlled too, so you can change the colour of chains and pendants to suit your wishes. Choose from Gold, Silver and Bronze options to mix ‘n’match to your heart’s content.
Last but not least the wee jewelled choker that I’m sporting is a free gift from HASTE.  HASTE is a new brand tome, and they have some beautiful items at GEEKS’N’NERDS which I’ll share with you later this week. As freebies go though this is a wee corker. I’m really into chokers at the moment because apart from looking awesome they’re excellent for hiding neck seams from mesh bodies, and this one is perfect. It’s so delicate and intricate yet looks great, and is easy to resize too.

So what are you waiting for? Make haste! (Oho, look what I  did there!) and trot off to the GEEKS’N’NERDS fair and get ready for the most epic of nerdgasms. There’s so much to love about this event that I’ll be coming back to it all week!

Witchy Wednesdays /Jewelry Fair 2014 The Willow Necklace By Aisling

Witchy Wednesdays /Jewelry Fair 2014 The Willow Necklace By Aisling

Snapshot_003 So Jewelry Fair 2014 kicks off on September 13th (my real-life birthday as well! WOOT!) and guys it is going to be great. I’ve had the privilege of having a sneaky wander around the rather excellent build and can tell you now, you need to get yourself some Lindens because there are some seriously stunning baubles and trinkets on display that you will NEED to buy.

It runs from Sept 13th-28th and you’ll find that all tastes and genres are accommodated perfectly well, and I’m pretty confident that there will be something for everyone on display. You’ll find a plethora of stunning jewelry from well-known and not so well known designers; from simple statement pieces to the more avant-garde items that Lady Gaga herself would be proud to sport.   As well as amazing necklaces there are tiaras, wedding and engagement rings, earrings galore, wristwatches, bracelets, bangles and all kinds of piercings too! It’s impossible for me to list every item, but I can assure you that your visit will not leave you disappointed.

Here’s an example of the awesome that awaits you.  This stunning necklace, ‘Willow’, features a pentacle set against the backdrop of a beautifully rendered tree with branches reaching skyward and roots pushing down into the earth below. (Click HERE for a better look)

It’s part of a collection that will be available at the event from AISLING called ‘Sortilege’. The necklace comes with a HUD so that you can change the metal colours of the necklace and you can re-size too.  Oh, and it’s materials enabled as well, meaning it will look even more  amazing when worn. If you’d like to check out other pieces in AISLING’s collection, take a peek at the Flickr feed HERE.

This piece isn’t available until the fair opens on Saturday, so I’m sort of cheating a bit by featuring it here today, BUT consider yourself warned in advance and make sure that you don’t miss out on this cracking piece of Pagan perfection when Jewelry Fair 2014 opens to the public.  (Note: this picture is a raw shot from SL that I haven’t enhanced in anyway, yes it is that gorgeous. Just like me:)

Kitty’s In A Mood…..

Kitty’s In A Mood…..

I haven’t treated myself to any jewellery in ages in Second Life. This is because I’m uber fussy, and a lot of the jewllery that is available frankly doesn’t hold any appeal. I prefer simple structured shapes to outlandish cut-throat fashionism 99% of the time, and then very infrequently I’ll want something so totally mad bonkers that I’ll only ever wear it once. So, me being a lazy chuff, I don’t tend to bother UNLESS it’s something uber-amazing from somewhere like Deco, or Miel, or Mood.

And it’s Mood that I’m writing about now because Jori Watler has just released a rather fabulous necklace and earring set that is so versatile that I can see it becoming a quintessential part of my SL wardrobe. It’s called ‘Chaos’, but there’s nothing haphazard or chaotic about the construction-it’s a perfect arrangement of loops and links. Think belcher without any belch, elegantly aligned and formed into a perfect ensemble to wear every day. It’s just as adaptable to special occasions too; the earrings in particular with their clustered-drop effect look sensational. The necklace looks great with backless gowns too; the fastening at the back is a cluster of loops that sounds as though it could look messy, but it just works. Totally unpretentious, classy styling that will last a virtual lifetime.

Of course, it comes with sizing options to ensure a perfect fit, and there are also texture change options too, making this even more attractive as investment pieces go. You can choose to wear Antiqued, Bronze, Gold, Gun Metal, Military and Platinum stylings. I was a bit worried when I selected the antiqued choice, as I half expected Bam Margera to come at me with a bag of flour but I needn’t have worried; the finishing and textures are all spot on, EXCEPT I’m a bit disappointed with the Military option. To me, that would be a dark green; in this set it seemed very light, almost lime and I wasn’t keen. Still ny not liking one option out of the six doesn’t make this any less of a worthy buy. I didn’t spot the option to demo this set, which I would have appreciated, because L$475 is a LOT to shell out but needless to say it’s entirely worth every penny. I won’t be taking it off anytime soon, and because it’s not nickel I’m pretty damn sure my neck won’t turn a funny colour either:)

Check out the blog and visit the store to get your mitts on this very special set. (I was trying to be so good with my spends today..I now have three lindens to last me a week. Woe is me, Fabfree for me it is then!)

Time To Say Goodbye…to Miriel

Time To Say Goodbye…to Miriel

Miriel Enfield is leaving Second Life, and I for one am absolutely gutted by this news  that was announced discreetly and without drama upon her blog as follows:

THURSDAY, MAY 21, 2009
Some time in the next few weeks, I will be permanently closing the shop and getting rid of the sim.If you want anything — eyes, jewelry, pictures of the forest — it’s best to do so soon.

If you’ve read Kittywitchin’ since its inception you will be well aware that I rarely stray from wearing Miriel eyes. Nothing else has ever satisfied my requirements in quite the same way…and I’m so sad that I won’t be able to peruse the wares on display in her beautiful store anymore.

There has in my opinion never been an eye colour palette to rival the selection available from Miriel’s store. The iris colours are utterly beautiful and they’re so artfully blended that they make your mouth moisten with anticipation. Add to that the excellent menu purchase system and unbelievably reasonable prices and you couldn’t have wished for a more statisfying Second Life shopping experience. Contrary to popular belief I don’t own the entire range, although I wish I did, but I do own a selection of Miriel eyes and what a wonderful addition to my inventory they are too.
Put simply, I’m not ‘dressed’ unless I am wearing my Miriel eyes. (Big or standard for the win, as realistic were always a tad on the small side for my fancy:)

A lot of my peers in the Second Life Bloggerverse are equally saddened by this news, but it’s hardly surprising. You knew where you were with Miriel’s designs, understood that you were getting quality (you only had to look at the stunning design of her sim to realise that) and you were guaranteed great value for money. There aren’t many content creators in world who can satisfy completely such a stringent criteria, but Miriel could.

You may think that I’m being a tad melodramatic here, but the fact is we’re losing a Second Life institution that I personally wish I’d appreciated and supported more upon these pages.

I know others feel the same way, and wished that we’d blogged about her more consistently. I feel ashamed about that because I am always raving about Miriel’s work to all and sundry and now I feel as though we all took the genius of Miriel for granted. The fact is her creations (and not just her eyes although they are my favourite, but also her stunning jewellery, hair and shapes) are so good you just didn’t need to keep returning to the store to make purchase after purchase!

As I mentioned before I don’t know the reasons behind the decision to close, but it’s a fair assumption to make that it may be something to do with the current economic climate. Times are hard for all of us, and if that is the case then it’s an especially cruel irony that a lack of appreciation may well have contributed to the brand’s demise, despite it being held in such high esteem by so many people.

I don’t know when the store will close, so I implore you to scrounge up the few Lindens that you have in your pocket and go to Miriel’s sim before it disappears forever. Take photographs of the sim and revel in the area’s beauty and when you’ve sated your creative urges go into the store and splurge on eyes, hair and jewellery to your hearts content. Work as graceful as this will likely never be seen in Second Life again and such talent cannot be repeated nor replaced.

Finally, I have no idea if Miriel will ever see this post but I just want to write a message for her:

Thank you so much for sharing your creative talents with Second Life. Your work will always be cherished by those of us who purchased it in-world and I hope you will be comforted to know that you made so many of us very happy. For me you contributed a vital element to the fundamental development of Kitty’s appearance.
Your designs are exemplary, and Kitty (and I’m sure many other avatars) will continue to wear Miriel eyes long after the doors to your store have closed for good.
Whatever your future holds I wish you every success..

Hugs and Noms,
Kitty =^..^=
