Of course, an event like Geeks’N’Nerds is going to be filled to the brim of a witch’s hat with Harry Potter references, and there are plenty to find if you look for them. For the blog I try to find something that can be used to create a more authentic Pagan ambiance in-world, and I found just the thing at Geeks’N’Nerds. I’m desperate to find more witchy items made from mesh, but they are hard to come by. Sure, you can find some amazing altars (Poppy Teskat has always been a favourite creator of mine) but they tend to be prim-heavy, and these days I much prefer the mesh alternatives.
Fortunately, BLUEBERRY HILL has crafted a rather lovely mesh piece. It’s a table-top altar, and it features magical books, a wand and some Tarot cards. There are spell bottles on there too, and I think it’s a rather sweet way to declare your Witchy inclinations for Just L$150. If you’re a witch that likes to cast circles with swords, then you should also pick up the ‘Sword Wall Mount’ at L$125. Both items have a bang-tidy land impact of just 1 too, what’s not to love? Both pieces and more besides are available from BLUEBERRY HILL at the GEEKS’N’NERDS event until December 10th.

GEEK GIRLS ARE EASY!
GEEKS ‘N’ NERDS is in full swing, and to my surprise I managed to get into the sim without any problems, which to be honest, I really didn’t expect at all. Of course, it was busy, but now the majority of creators have set out their wonderful wares it’s even more enthralling than it was yesterday. Something I didn’t expect though was to fall in love with a skin at this event. I’m loving NAR MATTARU pretty exclusively these days, so don’t really feel the need to look further afield (with the exception of the odd BELLEZA or GLAM AFFAIR number), but by ‘eck, I spotted this LUMAE skin and I did the cardinal sin..I bought it WITHOUT TRYING A DEMO!! (What is it that I tell you guys to do all the time? DEMO ALL THE THINGS!) But, at L$100 per tone I was feeling, shall we say ‘adventurous’, and something in me just knew this would be a good investment. Turns out to be an EPIC investment; in fact I’m absolutely delighted. This skin has everything I’m looking for, beautiful tone and detail and even comes with options that I wouldn’t expect for the price. I normally wouldn’t have gone for such a slim brow either, but I took a risk and it has actually paid off! I look bloody lovely, even if I say so myself!
This skin will be worn a LOT by me, and here’s why; the lips are scrumptious and the perfect shade of red. It will look blinking brilliant when I wear it with my favourite make-up and eyeliner layers. At the moment I’m sporting it with my go-to eyeliner (the ever awesome Black Eyeliner Series 8 from MONS) and it looks ruddy fab doesn’t it?!
I’m also wearing the rather fabulous new necklace, ‘Timey Wimey Things’, from CAE, which is an absolutely essential item for any self-respecting DOCTOR WHO fan. Of course, there are tonnes of Whovian-inspired goodies at this event, but this double necklace is incredibly special. It features a little Tardis-style charm, along with one that looks rather like a sonic screwdriver, and there’s a fez and a bow-tie, because we all know that they’re the epitome of cool. There’s also a key on a separate strand, could that be a Tardis key I wonder? I’m not sure, but what I am sure of is that CAE always makes beautiful jewellery that looks totally authentic and is worth every single Linden spent. This is beautifully made, and a pleasure to wear. Incidentally, the necklaces are HUD controlled too, so you can change the colour of chains and pendants to suit your wishes. Choose from Gold, Silver and Bronze options to mix ‘n’match to your heart’s content.
Last but not least the wee jewelled choker that I’m sporting is a free gift from HASTE. HASTE is a new brand tome, and they have some beautiful items at GEEKS’N’NERDS which I’ll share with you later this week. As freebies go though this is a wee corker. I’m really into chokers at the moment because apart from looking awesome they’re excellent for hiding neck seams from mesh bodies, and this one is perfect. It’s so delicate and intricate yet looks great, and is easy to resize too.
So what are you waiting for? Make haste! (Oho, look what I did there!) and trot off to the GEEKS’N’NERDS fair and get ready for the most epic of nerdgasms. There’s so much to love about this event that I’ll be coming back to it all week!

CALLING ALL GEEKS ‘N’NERDS!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, if an event is worth doing it is worth doing well. As regular readers know I’ve written about my dislike for half-hearted events on these pages more than once (I’m very repetitive) and I still stand by that statement. Events require effort, planning and most of all they require PASSION. The events that fail are the ones where the motivation was making a few Lindens, rather than getting together and actually creating something awesome in Second Life. But if you succeed, well that’s a different story altogether.
I think the GEEKS ‘N’ NERDS FAIR 2014 will be absolutely pigging huge, because the effort that has gone into creating the setting is plain for all to see. Guys it’s pretty fabulous, a space age shopping metropolis that you access from a tube station, with nods to all things Sci-Fi and Geeky dotted around. There’s even a spaceship, some shady looking newspaper vendors (they were asking for socks for some reason..) and a coffee house that sells really ‘fowl’ lattes..
This is going to be a fab place to take pictures but of course I know what you’re thinking, what about the content?! When I visited earlier (Blogger preview day, waheeyy!) about 40% of the vendors hadn’t set up shop yet, but what I did see I absolutely adored. This is one occasion NOT to miss, and I predict it’s going to be packed. There were fabulous desks and chairs, brilliant home accessories that will really enliven your living space along with fashion, hair and skins. It’s a veritable banquet on a stick of geekery, and the references are there for all to see. Doctor Who, Adventure Time, Star Trek, Harry Potter..all the big names are covered with lots of designers contributing their takes on these brands (whilst being incredibly careful about copyrights, naturally)

So, what did I spot on my quick visit? Well, let’s be honest, YOU NEED ONE OF THESE:
Yup, it’s a cat on a Roomba. Ever heard of Max Arthur and Pit-Bull Sharky? Those guys are some of the original internet pioneers of cute, and Max Arthur is the cat that started the whole Roomba-cat movement off. (My friend in RL has bought one of these JUST SO she can try and get at least ONE of her six cats to do a Max Arthur and sit on it. It’s slow progress..) Luckily, you don’t need to train your kitty in real life, just invest in one of these ‘Prrrmbah Cats’ from CULPRIT and watch it zoom around in a mad and happy fashion!
Yup, ‘Prrrmbah Cat’. It’s INSANE. Mesh cats in costumes or with flying goggles and scarves zooming around all over the place.
I was laughing hysterically at these and it’s really hard to choose which one to have. They’re L$300 apiece, so NOT cheap, but hella worth it for the guaranteed laughs and nonsense, and of course the continued cleanliness of your virtual abode.
These cats are sure to be some of the stars of GEEKS’N’NERDS 2014 when it opens at the stroke of midnight on the 24th. Keep your eyes glued to the official blog for location details and keep one of your other eyes on this blog, because I’ll be featuring more items from the show this week, because it’s rather chuffing brilliant:)
So Much GEEK!!!!
So the Geeks And Nerds Fair, a hugely anticipated event, has finally hit the grid, and it is rather good indeed. If you’re a proud Geek or Nerd in real life then you will really appreciate the time and effort that has gone into producing this event, and the quality products that you’ll find on sale. There’s a predominately Sci-Fi vibe to the event, with nods to Star Wars and Doctor Who, as well as the obligatory Harry Potter inclusions and a few old school references as well.
I’m a total Geek so wasn’t really paying much attention to the Nerdy stuff but I can vouch that Nerds are well accommodated here, although the event seems to be predominately Whovian, which is to be expected because it began during the Doctor Who 50th weekend. I sure as hell ain’t complaining! You’ll find all sorts of Who-related gubbins, from Tardis teapots, to necklaces as well as the celebrated range of Whovian inspired outfits from Damien Fate. If you want to be Doctors 11 and 12, or the companions Rose Tyler and Amy Pond, then at last , courtesy of Damien’s mad mesh skills, you can be. Damien’s costumes are fantastic re-imaginings of the clothing worn in the show and the ladies outfits in particular stand up to being worn in their own right. They’re pricey, but if you’re a committed Doctor Who fan these outfits are essential additions to your wardrobe.
This is quite a compact event , ripe for photographs (look out for the Dalek and K9!) and I came home laden with goodies. I particularly loved SECOND SPACES array of power strips and cables, joypads, cartridges and the Tardis pencil-holder. MISH MISH have produced two fantastic collectibles based on famous, nay, iconic Sci-Fi characters for the event, Mr. Spoon (NOT the guy from ‘Button Moon’) and Princess Donut. The best thing about these is they look just as awesome in their packaging as they do out! Something else that I really love is the ‘Bird Nerd’ set from LARK. As usual, Sienia has failed to disappoint with her creations and has used beautiful textures in her work. These have been applied with a delicate touch, which has added to the realism of this set. Everything a bird watcher would have in their fancy is included; Binoculars, field guide, calendar, and other assorted bird-watching finery, including an astonishingly pretty desk.ISON clothing are well represented at the event too. and the Wookie bag. I have raved about ISON before on these pages, and guess what, I’m doing so again. They’re selling a sweater/shirt combo at the event that you can manage via a hud. This means that you can change the shirt textures, and also choose to display an embossed logo on the chest area of your sweater. It’s fantastic; no issues when worn and fits straight out of the box, which is exactly what you need! I’ve never had any issues with ISON clothing and I don’t think I ever will, they’re just such a good brand:) Finally you MUST check out Elephante poses at the event. They’re super-creative, enabling you to suggest motion perfectly in your snaps. There are a number of pose-packs from Elephante (and other equally awesome pose-makers) at the event but I must draw your attention to the ‘When We Were Young’ pack which I am using for these images. These are Gacha winnings and evoke whimsy beautifully. You can take a cheeky peak at all of these items and more by checking out the Seraphim coverage of the event.
Finally, while we’re on a Geeks & Nerds trip, Strawberry Singh’s weekly Meme challenge was all about the same subject this week. Here are my answers!
1. What do you consider yourself to be? Geek? Nerd? Dork? None of the above? All of the above? I’m a Geek for sure; but there is also a nerdy side to me too. I adore History, and Archaeology, especially Ancient History. Egyptology is probable my favourite topic, and I pay an annual pilgrimage to the British Museum to get my history fix. (This year we saw an exhibition there about Herculaneum and Pompei which was pretty spectacular.)
2. What was the first computer you ever owned? The first computer I ever owned was a Toshiba MSX! It was BRILLIANT, but was a bit of a niche item in the UK. MSX never really caught on like Spectrum and Commodore, which was a shame because it was pretty superb for the time graphically if I recall correctly!) I used to buy MSX magazines and my Father and I would code in the games . It would take an afternoon to type in all the code and by the end all we would have achieved would be a crappy tank rolling across the screen, but it was a huge bonding experience. I used to buy my games on tape from a market stall on Chesterfield market. They were Mastertronic games, and I’d zoom home happily to insert them into my tape recorder and play them. To think, these days kids won’t experience the joy of loading a game from tape. Remember the sound it made? “Deeee-doop. Deeee-dodopdkddopdkdpskspsss….” There was nothing worse than waiting ten minutes for a game to load only for it to crash as well…
3.When and how did you first get on the internet? I think I first got onto the internet in 1996. I had a website and my own domain at one point that I just used to stick crappy photos and shitty gifs on! I used to use a program called ‘Pirch’ for IRC chat, and would spend my evenings chatting to people all over the world on that.
4. Which Geek fandom do you subscribe to? LOTS of them! I love Sci-Fi, and am a huge fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica and Fringe. I also adore The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad. I collect comics and Catwoman figurines, as well as erm…My Little Pony plushies! In fact I love so many things it’s scary! I wear tees and hoodies that declare my love to all around me and I am a very proud 40 year-old geek indeed.
5.Star Wars or Star Trek?
Are you kidding me?! BOTH!!!!!
6. How Geeky are you? Apparently I’m 74% Geek, and I’m quite chuffed by that result because it was a tough quiz! I don’t think I’ll ever change, indeed I hope that I don’t. I love being a geek and being passionate about it, even though it really can be very alienating. (never has a phrase been more apt!) Mind you, I live with a Geek. My fella collects Arcade Machines and is a World Champion after all, so I doubt that I’ll ever change!
