Virtually a Neko Kitty..

Virtually a Neko Kitty..

(I would have thought of a better title for this blog entry, but alas it’s late,I’m a tad pickled and well, I just can’t be bothered on a Tuesday much, know what I mean? Let’s face it, Tuesdays are LOTS worse than Mondays…ahem.)

Mooching around the various Second Life blogs I spotted an entry from ‘Virtual Neko’ which sent me scurrying like a kitten demented ( here’s a visual for you: a cat that’s just stuck it’s bottom on a warm wall in Summer, only it was a bit *too* hot. With me? Good) over to the store that she was blogging about. Useless Kitty that I am, for some reason ‘Atomic Kitty’ has never bipped on my radar before, but I hope I’ve made up for my ignoarance in that respect. It will surely be at the top of my Neko listings in future..because it is KITTYLICIOUS! I don’t stick my cat ears, tail and whiskers on very often, I have to be in the mood for it, but this is a store that would certainly appeal to those who live a constant kitty-cat lifestyle. Aimed squarely at the Neko culture, this store sells items that will basically make you look like the cat’s whiskers (Get used to the puns guys-I’ve been drinking again and that always helps) and then some! We’re talking fashion, furnishings, skins shapes and my favourite item from the store-EYES. Now, I only usually ever wear eyes by Miriel Enfield, because they are puurrfeeccct for me (snigger) *BUT* I think I’ve just fallen in love with the delicious range that Atomic Kitty has to offer. The best part about this is ‘Virtual Neko’ blogged a sale of GARGANTUAN proportions that means half-price store cards and goodies galore (I would tell you about this in detail but seeing as Virtual Neko blogged about it in far more detail and in a much more professional way I think that it’s only fair you visit her blog for the links and details)I dunno if it was the Chardonnay but I seemed to stumble around the store a tad and ended up buying a skin which is very lovely BUT alas the wrong-pigging one..sigh. Don’t drink AND Second Life is the motto here y’all..ahem. Anyway, you need to tip-toe in a cat-like fashion over to Atomic Kitty. If you do Neko in any way shape or form you’re missing a treat if you don’t check it out, and even if you don’t do the Neko I’d still suggest a visit, because a lot of the sublime wares available will appeal to grungey/rocky/cyber and emo types as well. See, something for everything! Versatile, me…(hic!)..Note to Kitty..don’t blog when inebri-inibr-inabri-pissed…hence the slightly blurry effect on the picture above.  But just look at those eyes..divine huh? They’re called ‘Silver’ and cost L$100 for a pack of THREE ( dark, medium and light) and contacts too.  In other words, a virtual-smeggin’-bargain, make no mistake! Click here unless you want to be forever condemned as a sad, furry trollop!

Show us yer pink bits!

Show us yer pink bits!

Last night Amanda turned up at my virtual pad, as she is want to do (she never knocks) and she looked *AMAZING*. Now, as you should all be aware by now, I don’t ‘do’ pink. I dislike it intensely. In fact, I think it should be banned! I was never into it as a girl, and certainly don’t like it as an adult. I’ve no idea what sparked the aversion but I swear to God it makes my teeth itch. Anyhoo, Shinjles turned up, decked out from head to toe in a rather snazzy pink ensemble, and because she looked so brilliant I wanted to share it with you here. Now, you may have spotted I’ve fannied about with the colours..this wasn’t really to reduce the pinkness, but because whilst I was playing around with the photo I discovered these fab and groovy settings which I think have resulted in rather an attractive picture! ( no, nothing to do with my refusal to have that much pink on my blog pages… ;P)
But back to the star of the show..Amanda. Even her tattoos are pink..seriously!..and it works perfectly on her. I really love the outfits she chooses, although of course her style for the main is quite different to mine, but there are similarities. For example, she’s wearing the ETD Laine hair that I peed my pants over last week, but, this being the Shinjles, she’s modded it to within an inch of it’s life using different shades of, yes, pink. It does look look great though, and worn with her snazzy robot hoody, skirt, braces and cracking wristwear ( turntable watch anyone?) all makes for a look that’s just pure ‘Second Life’. You know what I mean..touches of cyber, touches of Neko…all mashed up into a virtual pink frenzy! Anyways, here’s to you Miss Cyberpink. You may bring me out in a rash when you’re within ten virtual feet of me, and you have a tendency to make my eyes bleed-but hey, at least you look stylish whilst doing it!

PMSL@ the BBC’s article about sexual relations within Second Life..

The article is called ‘How do avatars have sex?’

As you’d expect it’s as unbiased and really well-researched as all previous articles about Second Life that the BBC have published. ( Check out the very last sentence…someone try explaining Furries to these people will you? *Sigh*)

It’s a scandal, such a scandal…

It’s a scandal, such a scandal…

Unless you’ve had your head stuck up your armpit for the past few days I’d be very surprised if you hadn’t heard of the latest Second Life “scandal” (Cue Dusty and the PSB’s..) to hit the real life media.  Sky News seems to relish these kinds of Second Life news stories, have you noticed that? Basically, a couple are getting divorced in real life because the wife discovered the hubby busily canoodling with an avatar in Second Life.  Backtrack a bit here, but they both met in Second Life before meeting in real life and ended up getting wed in RL and SL to boot.Still with me?
Apparently, lawyers are saying they expect to see a rise in such instances, and that really doesn’t surprise me…in fact sorry Sky, but this is old news.
I’m sure most avatars know of people who have embarked upon  relationships in Second Life that have become real life romances…I’ve known of a serial second life dater, who has been married twice in world, twice divorced (bitterly!) and is busily planning his third wedding with his real life missus completely oblivious to it all! I also know of a real life long time married couple who are both in separate Sub/Dom relationships in game with people from across the pond, and they’re happy as larry with it.  They realise these metaversal  relationships are nothing more than fantasy and if anything their shared interest in the game has brought them closer together. All MMO’s involve socialisation, and it’s through this interaction with our fellow avatars that relationships are created that often cross the real and Second Life divide. I’m not just talking sexual relationships here either, true friendships are made within our  virtual world that are equal, if not superior to, relationships with our real life peers. I think it’s human nature…and bear in mind,  are you really falling for the avatar or the person behind it? Regardless of how beautiful or quirky that Neko girl is, it’s your conversations and interactions that make you connect.
As for the argument about virtual worlds causing infidelities well I’d say that in this case and many others they obviously can, BUT you don’t embark on an affair unless there are cracks in a relationship in the first place.  Flirting and harmless banter are one thing, jumping onto a poseball with your legs akimbo is quite another, don’t you think?
I’m sure Second Life will cause divorces, and I’m also sure that joining sports or social clubs and attending gatherings in any variety of different subjects will do exactly the same.  You can meet someone and fall in love regardless of circumstance, so it’s a trend that will continue, and I don’t believe that this couple are actually the first.  Sure, they’re the first to be reported upon, but I think the metaverse has impacted many a relationship, don’t you?

Incidentally, both individuals have moved on, with the ex-wife moving on to WoWwhere apparently she’s met someone new…wonder if it’s one of those new-fangled Death Knights? 🙂

A final thought-have you noticed the pattern that’s developing here? Sky News is obsessed with Second Life, whereas  BBC News is constantly slating World of Warcraft and blaming it for all sorts of social ills, although it would appear that they really rate Eve Online….interesting no?  ( If you’re interested, do a search on the BBC Homepage for both games and look at the articles therein..)
