What’s Your Morning Routine?

What’s Your Morning Routine?

In RL mine is usually waking up bleary-eyed, stumbling into the shower and then staggering downstairs, only becoming even remotely human once I’ve had my first cup of tea of the morning. In SL of course i’m a lot more graceful; delicately sliding out of bed in a radiant fashion before beginning my virtual day.  And it’s just got even better too, courtesy of Sienia Trevellion’s ‘Morning Routine’ set for this month’s COLLABOR88. She’s thoughtfully included a number of nifty pieces that help keep your virtual life a little more organised, each one finished in her distinctive style.

There’s an entryway table (1LI) Phone Caddy (5LI) Coin Valet (1 LI) and Keychain (1LI). As you would expect each one is finely detailed and really looks the part. I’m especially enamoured with the Phone Caddy.  It looks so effective, and really handy too. I want one in real life! Also the umbrella, key dangling from the hook and the spectacle case are perfectly finished, as is everything that Sienia creates. The key-chain and coins are perfect too, and it really looks the part in my Skybox, as I hope you can see from the picture. I added a few winnings from THE ARCADE, as well as some old favourites to create an entryway that’s a real welcome home.

Upgrade your morning routine by visiting C88 and purchasing one of these really fab sets right now;  choose from Blue, Grey, White, Black or Red colourways. Here’s your taxi to C88!

SLGO? No, no, NO!

SLGO? No, no, NO!

There’s nothing worse than getting all excited about something new and innovative related to Second Life, and then getting all disappointed by it, but that’s just how I feel after the announcement of Onlive’s SL Client for tablets.

It promises so much, I mean how can you NOT be taken in by this advert?

At the moment it’s only available on Android, but there’s no doubt it looks good, and I for one would be incredibly happy about being able to log into SL on my tablet. The interface looks great too:

Draxtor  has already written about this and filmed his experiences:

The ever-gorgeous Strawberry Singh has also been playing with the interface.  and Jo Yardley has written about the release on her excellent blog too. So what’s not to love?

Well, £2 an HOUR for a start. I mean COME ON!  The pricing model is nothing short of delinquent. When you sign up you get a free twenty minute trial, but after that you have to pay. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve no problem with paying for something but this is a very short-sighted pricing model in my opinion:

UK Pricing ( I’m using this because I’m UK based, obviously)

  • FREE 20 Minute Trial – £0.00
  • 1 Hour – £2.00
  • 3 Hours (10% off) – £5.40
  • 10 Hours (15% off) – £17.00

You can read more about costs and other details by visiting the ONLIVE SLGO website here. Whilst I appreciate that profit needs to be made, I think this pricing model is incredibly backwards, and as a consequence I don’t think this application will be as successful as it should be which is a shame, because it looks incredibly good. There’s been an outcry on Plurk and SLU  about this and I can’t say I’m surprised in the slightest. I wonder how much market research was conducted in-world before this was launched?  I’m pretty sure most residents would have made it very clear that this pricing model is completely nutty.

In my opinion it would be far more enticing to have this included as part of the premium membership package. I think if that was the approach that was taken it would potentially increase premium memberships a great deal, and after all that’s something that Second Life is always going to need to remain profitable and thrive. I realise that this isn’t a Linden Lab product BUT the profits could have been split from the sign-ups, surely? Even if that’s not possible then a monthly fee, provided it’s reasonable, is still a more attractive deal.

As it stands I won’t be rushing to sign up for this service unless such pricing changes are made. Besides, LUMIYA is perfectly awesome on Android  and that’s available for a one-off fee of just £1.80.

We should congratulate ONLIVE for launching something that’s been longed for by all serious SLers for a very long time; but come on, let’s have a rethink and develop a more practical approach to pricing the product. If they do, I’m sure it will stand a chance at becoming very successful indeed.

RL Kittypost: RIP Puddin’

RL Kittypost: RIP Puddin’

I had tons of blogging plans last week. All of them were about sharing new and exciting stuff and things that I’d found in world with you.

And then RL happened.

Obviously with a name like Kitty you’d be inclined to think I’m a cat person, and I wear my ‘Crazy Cat Lady’ badge with pride.

Sadly, at the weekend one of my beloved cats, Puddin’, took ill and within 24 hours he had died.

It’s very difficult to explain how much the loss of a pet can hurt. People don’t like it if you describe your grief as being as raw as it would be had a close friend died. Having experienced that, I can tell you it isn’t the same, but that doesn’t diminish it in my eyes at all. I ache. I hate the fact that he’s gone. Having so many pets in my life means at some stage I must accept that they have passed but that never, ever lessens the grief. I have mourned for every single one of my pets and I miss them all still, and losing Pud at the weekend was an especially cruel blow.

I was there when Pud came into the world, and almost 8 years later I was with him as he left it.  He was a furry monster with a penchant for unsavoury midnight snacks of the rodent kind. He was great at wearing trees in his fur, and was ever-so-slightly dim. He had the world’s most pathetic meow, considering he was so utterly majestic you would have expected to hear him roar; instead he kind of squeaky mouth-farted. He was like a carpet with legs. He looked like a Norwegian Forest Cat, and when he hit the deck the house practically shook.  He’s irreplaceable, and the house is less without him in it.

I’m now left with two cats from my original, seemingly limitless pride.  His Mother, Piu, and his brother, Mylo.

I have no doubt that they’re grieving; although Mylo would adore him and chastise him in equal measure, leading to my breaking up many a ridiculous fight, I know that he is missing his brother dreadfully. As I write this he is perched at the top of the stairs, looking sadly down them towards the cat-flap, expecting Pud to waltz in at any minute, attempting to bellow his arrival.  Piu’s mood is harder to gauge; she’s so aloof most of the time, and incredibly anti-social, that I initially thought she’d not even noticed Pud’s passing. But I’m starting to think that I might be wrong on that; she hasn’t left my side today and is behaving in an almost clingy manner, which for Piu is a totally new experience.

It’s very plain to see that my dog, Indy, misses her chum. Dogs wear their emotions on their coats like raindrops; Pud would rub up against her head and purr so loudly that she would wag her tail in delight. They were also excellent sleeping partners, much to Mylo’s disgust.  It’s clear that she is feeling his loss, just like the rest of us.

We all miss him terribly. Sleep well my darling Pud.

..So that’s just what I’ll do! I confess, I am rather keen of the APHORISM brand. They make great clothing and these boots are no exception, aren’t they grand? They’re called ‘Rough Riders’, but truth be told there’s nothing remotely rough about them.  What they are are well textured and heeled, with an ever-so-slightly worn look that makes them good for casual wear. There’s enough of a modern feel to them to wear them with dresses, leggings and whatever else you fancy, but there’s just enough dandy to make them ideal for role-play too.  They would make great Pirate wear!

They’re available in black, charcoal, tan and brown.  I’m sporting them in the brown colour-way, and as you can see they look rather nice worn with my previously blogged DUCKNIPPLE frock. I took a quick shot in my bedroom so you can see the boots from the side; a couple of well-detailed buckles and a surface texture which features a nice contrast between smooth and worn leather completes the look.  I do like details and the boots feature a couple of nice ones, with the Aphorism brand name stamped on the buckles.

I confess that I adore boots, they’re probably my favourite footwear, and I think that these are a real find.  They’re currently available at ‘The Pier Market’,a new and upcoming regular event, priced L$350 a pair.
