LOTD: Loose and long

LOTD: Loose and long

Snapshot_006I’m starting to experiment a lot with longer hairstyles in my Second Life, and I must say I’m really enjoying myself. I’m really pushing my own boundaries, and constantly bagging demos of styles that I  think will not look right on me at all, and then guess what? I try them and BOOM!  They look fantastic. Case in point is LITTLE BONES.  Like SPELLBOUND, they’re a quirky brand with a really funky, modern edge.  The creator, NOVA MONROE,  keeps a really great Tumblr that you must visit (she has great taste in music) and her photographs really leap off the page. She has great fashion-sense, is absolutely oozing with street-cred and attitude and all of the styles that she has released this year have been exceptional, with each one really adding something to a virtual world that is already teeming with excellent hair designers.  I’ve been trying more and more of her styles recently and I am really loving what I see.  Colour and texture clearly matter a great deal to Nova and she gets both elements just right in her creations.  In this shot I’m wearing her latest release for KUSTOM9, called ‘Rusted Aero’ (which sounds like a very deviant sexual practise) and it’s a beautiful, loose over-the-shoulder style that manages to look elegant yet messy at the same time. Elegantly messy it is then, and what a treat to wear!

I’m also modelling some jewellery from JEWELRY FAIR 2014, this time from a brand called GEWUNJO.  I confess I’d never heard of the brand before and I think with a name like GEWUNJO I’d remember them, but I’ve been impressed by Andy Berenohn’s work. This KALZANG set is available at the event and features earrings and necklace that are both HUD controlled to change metal and gem colours. I think these pieces are bold without being over-bearing; they’re chunky and well made but sit well on the avatar and are easy to fit.  They make a statement without being too ostentatious and look perfect teamed with this loose hairstyle and a simple shift.

Last but not least, a shout out to the eyeshadow that I’m sporting.  You guys know how much I love my defined eyes, right? Well I discovered this gorgeous Kali eyeshadow at the latest round of GENRE.  It’s by the ADORED BODYSHOP and you get five colours in the pack for L$100.  I’m wearing the gold option in this shot and I really love it.  The sweep of colour across the lid teamed with the dark shade that finishes in a perfect cat eye shape is really rather special. Of course if I wasn’t wearing such an awesome base skin it just wouldn’t work  as well, but the bold brow shape on this NAR MATTARU ‘Skye’ skin looks as though the two were meant to be together!

Kitty wears:

Skin: NAR MATTARU ‘Skye’ (Tone 03) Black Brows

Eyes: IKON ‘Perspective’ in Blush

Eyeshadow: ADORED ‘Kali’ Eyeshadow in Gold (GENRE)

Lashes: HUSH ‘Flirt’

Ears: CHEERNO ‘Human Ears-Tragus’

Nose Ring: MONS Septum Ring (Style 1)

Hair: LITTLE BONES ‘Rusted Aero’ (KUSTOM9)

Dress: EMERY ‘Gatsby’ in Berry

Jewelry Fair 2014: RealEvil Industries

Jewelry Fair 2014: RealEvil Industries

Jewellery_001Never judge a book by its cover. Or so the saying goes…

The same could be said for Second Life; never judge a company by the name. If you’d asked me what RealEvil Industries retailed in-world I would have said something to do with role-play perhaps, I dunno, swords and armour for the medieval crowd?
Imagine how surprised I would have been to discover that this brand is behind some of the most satisfying necklaces, earrings and wrist-watches that you’ll find anywhere on the grid. They have a stand at JEWELRY FAIR 2014 and I strongly suggest that you visit. You’ll find a number of outstanding items on display at great prices and oozing quality, with timepieces and jewels that feel substantial to wear and look extremely expensive too. But here’s the thing; they aren’t at all!
In this picture I piled on some of the pieces that you’ll find at the Jewelry Fair.

First of all I am wearing the ‘Lux Aliki Necklace & Earrings’ set, which features 9 different pearl and metal colours to choose from. This whole ensemble adds an incredibly classy touch to an outfit, and combined with my hairstyle I feel like I’ve created a modern take on Audrey Hepburn’s classic ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’ look. Even more astonishing the set is just L$199. An absolute bargain price for such quality and versatility!
On my left wrist I’m wearing the ‘Lux Viva Watch’. Again this item features a  HUD packed with options for 8 different faces, metals and leather designs. It’s also a working wristwatch that you can set to your preferred timezone.

Zooming in on this piece is particularly satisfying because it’s bursting with detail, but then again so is the wristwatch set that I’m sporting on my right wrist too, the ‘Revox MTX Watch‘. It comes in male and female versions and can be worn with an additional bracelet should you so wish. This is a really grand, chunky and substantial statement piece and is super-customisable. You can choose from ten different metals, and also change the colour of your gears, leathers, cogs and numbers to make a combination that is truly individual and will really get you noticed. I’m delighted to have discovered this brand, and it’s one I will definitely be wearing a lot in the future.

If you’d like to peruse the entire collection that is on offer at Jewelry Fair, click here, and once you’ve had a look, click HERE to be transported to their booth at the fair.

Look out for me wearing more RealEvil Industries items in future posts too!

Home & Garden Expo 2014: Rustic simplicity with a magical touch from R (S) W

Home & Garden Expo 2014: Rustic simplicity with a magical touch from R (S) W

Snapshot_004

The 7th annual Home & Garden Expo begins tomorrow, and as ever it is going to be a HUGE event, raising funds for Relay For Life of Second Life.   If you’re seeking a brand new virtual home, or looking for individual pieces to furnish your existing one, you’ll find everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink at the event.  You have until September 28th to enjoy it, and you’ll need to take your time. There are 9 sims, featuring the work of over 85 creators!

I had a nosey and my first impressions are that there are  a lot of shabby chic and rustic pieces this year (as well as more modern furniture and homes too)so if you like your home to rock a boho vibe you’d be wise to pay the event a visit. There are also a lot of traditionally styled homes too, more than I’ve noted in recent years, with greater more emphasis on period living and role-play too.  It’s great to see how this event has truly evolved over the years , and there are plenty of  wonderful items to appeal to every kind of avatar.

Here’s an example, this beautiful ‘Farm Chair- Eyeback’ has been lovingly crafted by Robin Sojourner, for her R (S) W brand. I absolutely adore the simplicity of this piece of furniture; it looks extremely effective with a fabulous worn texture, and would work just as well as a display item as it would a functional chair. Place it in a corner and pile high with books and candles, or you could choose to decorate it with this stunning fantasy piece from Robin, a ‘Dragonfly Dragon’.  Both items have a land impact of 1.  I’ll be featuring more items on these pages during the event but be sure to check out all the other bloggers who are covering this occasion, as well as the official Flickr group too!

JEWELRY FAIR 2014: ‘Chianna’ by Earthstones

JEWELRY FAIR 2014: ‘Chianna’ by Earthstones

Earthstones Blurred

Here’s a preview of some of the astonishing goodies that you’ll find on sale at JEWELRY FAIR 2014, and it’s from one of the most well-known and respected  jewellery designers on the grid, Abraxxa Anatine, the genius creator behind the EARTHSTONES brand.

You know, EARTHSTONES in a real Second Life success story. I can remember going there in 2007 to purchase jewelry, and you’ll find numerous examples of Abraxxa’s work on this blog. I have worn a LOT of EARTHSTONES jewellery (I’m sorry, I cannot type jewelry, I’m British and we just don’t spell it that way!) and I know I will continue to do so in the future because it is some of the most carefully crafted and beautifully designed that you’ll find anywhere upon the grid.  The fact that EARTHSTONES has been in-world for so many years (practically a lifetime by Second Life standards) should tell you all you need to know about the products on offer in store. Abraxxa produces an ever-expanding range of styles to suit every taste and budget, and every genre and Second Life sub-group can find something appealing in her store.

So what is it that makes Abraxxa’s work so good? How has she managed to stay in business where others have failed? Quite honestly, it’s the quality of her product. For a start, she creates the very best, most authentic looking crystals and minerals for necklaces, bracelets and earrings that I have ever seen in-world. The textures that she uses are so precise and detailed that it feels like you are gazing at that particular gemstone in real life. I own a LOT of gemstone items in-world, but it’s always the EARTHSTONES items that stand the test of time and that is because they look so true to life.  For example, when you gaze at a chunk of Labradorite or Tigers Eye in real life there’s an inherent luminescence to the stone, a shimmering aspect that makes the crystal come alive. Abraxxa can do that with crystals in Second Life too; she captures their allure and perfectly places that into our pixellated universe.  It’s an amazing talent.  She sets her crystal creations into intricate designs crafted from precious metals, and I’m pretty darn sure she adds a sprinkling of magical pixie  dust into the mix too, because the finished products are ALWAYS perfect.

The items I’m wearing in the picture above are a perfect example.  This is the Chianna set, in the ‘Burning Embers’ colourway,  comprising of  earrings and pendant necklace (there’s a short necklace as well) Every component of this is beautifully rendered, from the links and fastener upon the silver chain, to the perfectly executed spiral that hangs upon it and the crystals that  are strung underneath. This particular colourway features gems such as Tigers Eye and Carnelian to capture the fire of Fall, and is perfect for wearing on Autumn nights.  It’s statement jewellery of the highest calibre, but works equally well in both formal and casual settings. For example, this necklace would look fabulous worn over a chunky winter tunic with jeans and boots, but it also works when worn with a simple black cocktail dress. Awesome isn’t it?

You’ll find this terrific set, and other pieces at Jewelry Fair 2014. I’ll be featuring more wonderful items over the coming week, so stay tuned!
