Walking on thin ice at MELT…

Walking on thin ice at MELT…

Melt features some of the most exciting creations I have seen in a VERY long time, from some of Second Life’s most esteemed and innovative creators. When you rez at the landing point you’ll be able to see, enjoy and purchase these items, and then move on to explore the barren artic wilderness and play ‘Spot The Polar Bear’.
It feels very bleak, frozen, hostile even, and looks amazing. Any photographs that you take you should ensure that you add to the photo pool on Flickr. I’ve been blessed to enjoy a wide variety of the items available here and I can honestly say that it’s really hard to pick stand out pieces because the quality is so high, BUT the dresses that Sienia Trevellion has produced, as well as the pocket watch, just took my breath away. I’m going to be featuring a lot of the finds in forthcoming postings, fear not but you HAVE to go and see the goodness for yourself.

MELT runs from the 6th until the 21st of March, on the aptly titled, ‘MIRROR’ sim.
Here’s a listing of some of the contributors. This list will make your mouth water so make sure you have PLENTY of lindens to spend!

Fifty Linden Fridays- Farewell PDA

Fifty Linden Fridays- Farewell PDA

Penny Dreadful Arcade, a stalwart of Fifty Linden Fridays, is closing this weekend. I’ve always enjoyed visiting the store due to the creative and playful shapes they sold; I didn’t always like the poses, some were too left of centre for even my tastes, but I admired the fact that they were creative above and beyond the pose-making norm in Second Life.

Izzy, Samara and Esme are intent on going out with a bang though; and if you’re a pose addict you’ll LOVE this amazing offer available until Sunday night:

-ALL poses are L$10 EACH.

– 100+ pack of Izzy’s poses for L$ 1000 – which includes some unreleased poses (+ Fifty Linden Friday poses) and a few couples poses.

-120 of Samara’s poses for L$ 1000

The Fifty Linden Friday selections for this week are two packs of shapes, one called ‘Goodbye’, and the other ‘Last Poses Of PDA’
(In this shot I’m using the pose called, “You should never have opened that door” from the ‘Goodbye’ collection)

I’d like to wish the team behind PDA the very best of luck for their future endeavours, and praise them for the amazing poses that they created, which I’m sure enabled many of us to take some superb photographs in world.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the hair is from Lamb and the undies are by 5th and Oxford, both are FLF selections this week. (The jewellery is from Ganked, not a FLF item)

PS By the way my hand isn’t really that big, it’s the angle!

Tattoo You…

Tattoo You…

First up dear readers, HUGE grovelling apologies for my not blogging for (gulp) almost a week.
It’s my RL shifts, alas some weeks they bugger me up more than usual and I’m afraid that’s been the case here. Still, I’ll more than make up for it I can assure you! So, how have you been, missed me? Having fun with 2.0? I must confess that I’m really getting into my stride with it now. I’m not in as much of a loving minority as I was with it last week either; I’ve encountered a lot of people who are gagging for the new viewer, especially the Snowglobe version. I’m running Snowglobe 2.0 at the moment and SL is rezzing better and faster and is noticeably less laggy, so I do heartily recommend that you give it a whirl.
Of course, I eagerly await the Emerald 2.0 viewer. I think everyone is waiting for that one with baited breath, fingers crossed!
Anyway, to get us back into the swing of things, let me share a nice look I’ve just created with you. This is sort of beach-beautiful, which I’ve crafted using CURIO ‘Beach-Jellyfish 2’. I’m wearing a chest enhancing attachment with it from LINC, and the jewellery is by my favourite jewellers at the moment, $GaNKeD$. The gorgeusly summery hair is ‘Justine’ in ‘Barley’ by TRUTH, and the dress is called ‘Open Up’ in plum, by UB. But the main reason I created this was because I wanted to share the stunning butterfly face tattoo I won today at DEVOL. They have a roulette machine in store, you pay it L$50 and you receive a face tattoo selection at random. I had two attempts and got two beauties; this butterfly tattoo and a stars tattoo. I love the fact that we have a tattoo layer now in the new viewer, and it’s going to make such a difference to designers. Make-up, facial tattoos and various adornments, even hair bases can be created for this layer now and it’s really going to revolutionise some of the looks that we see on our virtual catwalks and blogs in the near future. I’m sore impressed with this look and I hope you are too..to think, we’ve only had 2.0 for just over a week as well….

Witchy Wednesdays- A Trip To ‘Prim Ordial’

Witchy Wednesdays- A Trip To ‘Prim Ordial’

Clever name huh?
Describing itself as a store that retails quality Wiccan goods and artefacts, ‘Prim Ordial’ offers subtle and refined wares. There is nothing flamboyant here; just simple honest to Goddess Wiccan fancy made with quality textures and great attention to detail. There are no textures here that will give you indigestion for example; there’s one particular shade of purple that is very popular with Pagan content creators and I always suffer when I see it…ahem, but it really was a relief to NOT find it here at all.
There is a limited collection of goods to buy in store, but each one is very good indeed, and great value for Linden. Everything is L$200 or less. The range is compact, but covers all the required basics: altars, candles, athames, wands, cauldrons and crystal balls. The store uses vendors, which can be a bit laggy, but be patient because the kit here is seriously worthy stuff. Dolly Vyper is the creator, and I can tell you very little about her because there isn’t much written on her profile, but I can tell you that she is very accomplished at what she does. Original works such as her wooden altar pentacle replete with candles, and her spectacular athames, either crystal-tipped or with a nice chunky handle, are excellent choices for purchase. These are clearly marked as decorative items and they would really enhance a ritual space. There are also 3 cauldrons to choose from with different animations in each, and a couple of lovely, simply animated crystal balls too. Prim efficiency is key here, but scrimping on prims does not mean scrimping on quality and finish. The altar bell for example is 2 prims and has a white ceramic glaze, embellished with a black pentacle. It’s simple and pretty and perfectly matches the sculpted chalices that are also available in a variety of designs.  There’s also a simple goddess statue which you can resize to make a perfect fit on any altar space.
Speaking of which, there is a variety of altars here and all of them are substantial numbers in a variety of finishes. My particular fave is the Wooden Pentacle Altar that is a mere 3 prims, including cloth, and would look the part kitted out with either the God and Goddess Candle Set, or the Elemental Candle Pack which features four coloured candles again with ceramic bases. You can mix and match to your hearts content in here, and I think a great idea would be for Dolly to make a ‘Wiccan Altar Basics’ pack using all her matching items because I’m sure it would be a big seller.
Personally, I believe the range may be particularly appealling to the male Pagan community in-world, due to the clean lines and non-fussy approach to design, but don’t be misled into thinking the range here is overtly masculine in any way. It’s not..so go and take a look, because this simple approach to design really worked for me and I think it will for you too.
