MBA: I didn’t Mean To Turn You On

Valentina E_006Little black dresses are a fashion staple for a reason and that’s because they lend themselves to any occasion. From cocktail parties, to funerals (well, it’s true isn’t it?) they can be styled for any event and worn with confidence every time.

There are literally squillions of little black dresses in Second Life, but the ones that stand out are the ones that have clever little details and eye-catching elements built into them.  For me, this LBD called ‘Chained Angel ‘ from the absolute powerhouse that is VALENTINA E definitely counts as one of them. dinner party_007.jpgActually, you don’t have to buy this in black, it’s available in other colours too, but for me it’s absolutely perfect worn this way.  The black offers a perfect contrast to the gold chain that adorns each cut-out side of this dress too.  Despite the depth of tone attention has still been paid to the texture used on the dress; the fabric suggests a heavy-weight little number, again suggesting quality, but what would you expect from VALENTINA E?

I also like the fact that there’s a ton of creasing on the skirt, this lends a really authentic air to the dress because when you’re sat down in a dress like this it does crease.

To make this look super classy you can dress this up with pearls and an elegant wristwatch or add statement earrings and an updo for a really stand-out look. (I’d suggest one of the fantastic updo’s available from VANITY HAIR, especially if you want to make a modern twist on Audrey Hepburn’s timeless look! Note, I’m NOT wearing that in the pic..)

This dress needs the right shoes to be truly effective. Plain heels just won’t cut it; you need something to balance out the colour and chain decoration too. So luckily you’ll find a cracking pair of heels that match perfectly at the Mesh Body Addicts event too; these ILLI ‘Sara’ heels also feature decorative stud elements that you can change the colour of via HUD.  The T-bar strap adds an elegant feel, and the zip to the rear offers a really authentic touch.  They’re very impressive, and add the perfect finish to an absolutely  stunning ensemble. Yes, you need this dress and shoes in your life: here’s your taxi!

Wrap up! It’s time for The Season’s Story

Wrap up! It’s time for The Season’s Story

Aphorism_002..and I have *just* the thing.  One of the problems with Winter coats is that usually they’re so darn formal; big and heavy structured woolen numbers that look perfect when you’re all dressed up but when you want something warm yet dressed-down they just don’t work. The perfect solution then is a parka, and rejoice for APHORISM have released just the thing at THE SEASON’S STORY (opens 10th January)

The Winchester Parka is available for both sexes (You’ll see the male version at TMD, available now) and is the perfect casual Second Life winter jacket.  The female version includes the always handy Maitreya Autohide option to make wearing super easy, but really all you need to decide is which option to go for, because there are plenty of great colours to choose from.

I chose to go all bright and pink because, well, why the hell not? In fact, this is a GREAT look; add some leggings and flats, or just rain-boots and you’re good to go! Stick on a beanie and some headphones and you’re urban to the max, especially if you add jeans and sneakers.  As usual (for me anyway) a lot of the joy I get from Second Life clothing is knowing whether I could wear this in real life, and I so could.  The material looks chunky and dense, and the texture is spot on; a bit of twill and rib and lots of wrinkles and shading in all the right places make this a must-have item.

Do not miss this; it’s a cracking coat and one that is sure to prove extremely popular in-world and with good reason.  Right, I’m off for a pint…

PS – Yes, I’m wearing a mesh head after swearing blind (not that long ago either) that I would never wear one.  What can I say other than I got bored over the festive period, gave one a whirl and fell in love! I’ll talk more about this epiphany very soon..

I’m Your Aphrodite…

I’m Your Aphrodite…

Lelutka has released three Goddess themed hairstyles today for summer, and they’re all rather special, which they should be if you’re going to name hairstyles after Goddesses. But don’t worry; I don’t think they’ll be angry and rain down fire and brimstone upon us, for Aphrodite, Athena and Demeter are beautiful styles evoking classical grace and splendour thus befitting their namesakes perfectly.

For this post I wanted to focus on the flowing locks of Aphrodite. This is a rigged mesh style that will move with your body, therefore it’s not resizable, but boy is it lovely. The hair tumbles in graceful waves down the back and is caught up at the sides, leaving more tousled locks to fall free over the shoulders. It perfectly evokes classical Grecian imagery and it would work not just as a high fashion style, which is obviously the market that it’s aimed at, but also for the role-play community too.

I’ve teamed it with one of the most glorious skins that I saw at the Skin Addiction showcase that’s in world at the moment. It’s a must attend event, courtesy of the Skin Addiction blog, featuring lots of delicious skins  to feast your eyes upon  and lots of names that I wasn’t familiar with, so I got TONS of demos to play with as well as some freebies too! (Join the Skin Addiction group to benefit) Incidentally, the layout of this event is fantastic. It’s not cluttered or fussy and the landscaping is absolutely amazing in the forest areas, I wanted to stay there all day exploring! (Dizzy Sparrow I salute you for your epic landscaping abilities, if I ever get my own land again in SL (something I dream about often) expect a call from me asking you to landscape it for me!))

But back to the skin. It’s a beauty! She’s called ‘Keiko’ and she’s from the ’Rosy Mood’ label, one I’d never heard of before but will be seriously checking out now! (See? Events like this do work!) Keiko features a choice of light or dark skin tone, as well as five make-ups too. There’s also teeth and cleavage options and they work perfectly; I’m totally delighted with it. And I think it works beautifully with this hair too to produce a combination fit for Mount Olympus itself.

To buy Lelutka hair you can visit the Marketplace or In-world store.

Rosy Mood has a blog, a mainstore and here’s the link to the Skin Showcase too!

A Red-Headed Thank You!

A Red-Headed Thank You!

I’ve had a rent reprieve; not only that a dear friend has blessed me with some Lindens and for that I am eternally grateful, so thank you dear heart.  It was completely unexpected, as you can imagine.  Logging in-world and seeing a beyond-healthy Linden balance made me blub.  Plus someone who wished to remain anonymous contacted my landlord and paid a serious amount of rent for me; this means not only do I continue to  have my lovely roof over my head, it also means that I can blog about some new items and share them with you on these pages. ( The lack of posts of recent times has been due to my being very depressed in real life. As regular readers are aware by now, I’m Bi-polar and unfortunately it’s had me by the short and curlies in recent weeks. Fortunately I’m starting to see a glimmer of light on the horizon, so normal service is going to be resumed post haste!) But back to the generous gift that was bestowed upon me.  My landlord, Nathan, pointed out that I was very blessed to have such wonderful friends. No truer words have been said.
‘Thank you’ seems an almost insignificant phrase in comparison to the magnitude of generosity that’s been shown towards me, but I don’t know what else to say, so it will have to do.  Perhaps the nicest thing is that my friend recognised just how important Second Life is to me.  It’s stress-relief, a world to which I can escape when I need it.  It occupies my mind when I could be thinking of a myriad of unhelpful thoughts. In fact, I’ve no doubt that without it my Bi-polar depression would be a million times worse. It’s my therapy; other people go to the pub, play sports, watch soaps. Me? I log into this wonderful metaverse that I call home and explore all of  the bounty. The fact she recognises this speaks volumes about what a wonderful person she is. In fact, this post is totally for her.

You see, in real-life she has glorious red hair, so I promised her a red-hair post, and what better hair to share than the fantastic ‘Rykiel’ from Lelutka. (As always, click image to see a larger version..)

I know this has already been blogged a million times before so forgive my late entry to this party, but in my mind it deserves to be posted a galaxy of times.  Rykiel is 180 prims of curl and frizz and whizz that leaves all the competition in it’s wake. I love the details; from the shorter hairs at the hairline to the stray hairs sticking up on the crown. It’s voluminous and bouncy and just a massive style in so many ways.  It’s also completely  adaptable, enabling you to transform into Lady Gaga from the ‘Bad Romance’ video ( When she’s all in white in the bedroom..)or helping you evoke Susan Sarandon’s 1980’s vibe  in ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ ( the tennis court scene in particular!) It’s just one of the most amazing hairstyles that the grid has seen in recent months, and I am totally in love with it.  In fact when I first put it on I found myself singing ‘I lost my heart to a starship trooper’, purely because of the 1970’s disco vibe that it evokes so well!

Go and test this one out.  The demo is the irish auburn shade, and I think it works beautifully when worn with the Curio ‘YumII-Mint Julep 2’ skin. All those people who say that red and green should never be seen just haven’t a ruddy clue have they?
