Berry’s Memes: Best & Worst Meme

Time for another Blogger Challenge !

I’ve not completed one of these for a while, and this was a nice one to have a think about.  Many thanks to the ever-fabulous Strawberry Singh for providing this Meme!

What is the best thing about Second Life?

There’s so much! For me, it allows me to just switch my RL brain off and engage with the virtual world as Kitty for a while, so that means shopping, dressing up and taking photographs, decorating a virtual space and exploring amazing locations. I love it; I still find so much new stuff to enjoy after almost 7 years in the world!

Worst thing about Second Life?

DRAMA. Causing a fuss about nothing and hiding behind a keyboard is one of my pet-hates in the virtual world that I call home.  As I said in my recent 1500th blog-post there needs to be a lot more love and a lot less hate in Second Life right now, and trust me when I say that drama, and those who cultivate it, are always best avoided.

What’s the best thing in my inventory?

You know, I don’t think I can choose just one thing because I have new favourites practically every day! I think this year has been all about the Bazar Arizona house for me, so that’s definitely one of the best things in my inventory, even though I’m not living in it at the moment. What, you didn’t know? Shock horror! (There’s a blog post coming soon about my change of dwelling, although truth be told I miss my Arizona house..)

What’s the worst thing in my inventory?

It’s probably a gesture. Oh my, can you remember when gestures were a thing? They were so annoying! I’ve been to so many gigs in the past where gestures spoiled the sets because people just wouldn’t quit it with them, especially a silly whip-cracking sound and action that used to drive me insane.

What’s the best thing you’ve learned because of SL?

I’ve learned lots of things through my involvement in Second Life actually! For example, I’ve learned how to use WordPress through my blogging, and basic photo improvement and enhancement for the images that I feature on my blog.  I’ve acquired basic building skills in the world too, and although I will never create masterpieces I know enough for my own needs and requirements. (In other words, I know how to make a box. YAY ME!) You know there are probably lots of skills that I’ve acquired over the years through my involvement in this mad environment that we call home, and I’ve never really thought about it until now.  Wow!

What’s the worst thing you learned because of SL?

The realisation that haters are gonna hate, real life or Second Life or both.

Unfortunately, some do it incredibly well in both lives, but I reserve a special kind of loathing for people who generate shit-storms in Second Life as you can probably tell.

What’s the best thing about blogging?

The best thing for me is when people like a post that I have written and they care enough to share that with me. Also, I’ve received some lovely notecards over the years from content creators thanking me for featuring their work, and I treasure those.  Receiving a blogging package always gives me a buzz, that’s never gone away, and being selected to blog an event is especially rewarding, although it can be stressful too  because you desperately want to do a good job for the event and the people that selected you. But most of all I love it when I’m writing about something that I’ve found in world and I know it’s fabulous and really want everyone else to see how amazing it is. I get a real buzz from that; blogging is my equivalent of jumping up and down on the spot whilst pointing and shouting “Look! LOOK AT THIS THING!! Isn’t it AMAZING?!” I’m like a kid in a sweetie shop when I have my blog-happy on!

What is the worst thing about blogging?

For me, it’s missing self-imposed deadlines and being my own worst critic. I’m a typical Virgo when it comes to self-critique!

Then there’s the panic that sets in when you haven’t had time to blog, and the feeling of failure when I go through one of my ‘bloggers block’ periods, and sadly there have been a couple of those over the years.  Also, it really annoys me when  people assume that I make money from blogging! I’ve had a few people seriously believe that I am paid for this, and nothing could be further from the truth! Also, I dislike it when people assume that EVERYTHING you blog about has been gifted to me. This year (my sixth year of blogging) has been my most fruitful in terms of items received, BUT I would say compared to other bloggers I receive very little. But that’s not a complaint on my part; I am always grateful for anything I receive and always try my best to blog what I get, although of course that’s not always possible.  I don’t like approaching designers and asking for items to blog either; although I have done it a few times this year in response to being invited to do so.  To be frank, I’d far rather retain my autonomy, and the creator be paid for their amazing work.

Best thing to have with french toast?

And here’s where I lose some of my allure….what’s french toast?

Is it like eggy bread?! Look, I’m Northern, we don’t have french toast! We have crumpets or toasted teacakes or toast and jam, we don’t have french toast around these ‘ere parts!

Worst thing to have with french toast?

Seeing as I’m not sure exactly what it is, I’m going to say the worst thing is probably….spam.  I don’t imagine spam would go down very well with it at all! (That is, if French toast is what I think it is..)

OOOH HANG ON!! Berry said: “..The twist is, the final question you need to change and make up your own best & worst that you want to share..”

Right, scratch the french toast answer. Let me try again:

Best thing in the world ever?

Berry’s Memes – Inventory Meme

I’ve not completed one of Strawberry Singh’s Challenges for a few weeks and I am incredibly behind,  which is a bit of a shame because I always enjoy them. However I did spot one that I could complete pretty quickly, her Inventory Meme, so here it is!

  1. What is your current inventory number? 50, 292. I’m REALLY not happy about this number because I strive to keep my inventory below 50k at all times, so that means 292 things will be getting deleted very soon indeed!
  2. If you had to delete your whole inventory and could only keep one thing, what would it be? This is an incredibly difficult question to answer because there are so many items in my inventory that I truly adore. However, I’ve been through a major inventory disaster before, and lived to tell the tale,  so I know that as much as you love some items you actually CAN live a successful Second Life without them. (Pfffttt!! I sobbed for a week, seriously!) I genuinely have a LOT of love for my stunning Arizona house by BAZAR so I think if I had just one item left it should be that, because I know that I would find some much-needed comfort in knowing that I could go shopping for oodles of wonderful things to fill it up with again.
  3.  What is the last thing you purchased? Hair, skins and clothing from Collabor88
  4. Which item do you wear most often? Apart from my shape, which is a given, I would have to say my IKON eyes are an absolute must wear for me. I also very rarely take-off my SLINK mesh hands. In fact I really should because they need a wash.
  5. When you search for the word ‘Penis’, how many items pop up? Absolutely NONE! I must admit that I am completely astonished by that; but I have been in Second Life a while now so have probably deleted any items of that kind from my inventory a long time ago..

Another Second Life Meme….

It’s all Berry Singh’s fault.

She calls this her ‘Procrastination’ meme, in the sense that it makes you procrastinate..well, it does, I agree, but it also made me think about some brilliant moments I’ve had in Second Life, so thanks Berry:)  You can read Berry’s original meme HERE. (Don’t forget to check out the comments for contributions from other bloggers!)

Here’s my contribution:

  1. What is the rez date for your current SL Avatar that you use most often? Kitty O’toole – December 20 2006
  2. Where was the first place you made friends as a newb and got to know people in Second Life? The first place I discovered was actually suggested by the friend that got me into Second Life, Whoosh Shatner. It was the Three Lions pub, and I *adored* that place, and I still miss it to this day. Fortunately I made some lifelong friends there, who I still see on occasion (not often enough though).  It was the maddest place, and I have some fabulous stories. I would zoom home from RL work, race upstairs and log into SL so I could join my friends in the ‘pub’, I loved it that much.  It was the best place in Second Life, and if I ever had my own sim I’d ask Phil Plasma if he wanted to resurrect it. I also miss ‘The Crown and Pearl’  immensely too. Happy days.
  3. Where do you spend most of your SL time now?  Usually at my home; when I’m not there I’m shopping/clubbing/looking for things to blog. My club of choice at the moment is IYC, which is actually a furry club! Although I’m not a full-time furry, I do dress up in my Tiger aspect and go along to enjoy the DJ sets. I especially love DJ Ohni Starfall who plays there regularly.
  4. Who is your closest friend in Second Life? (only pick one) Amanda Shinji, aka DJ Cyberpink/Daft Pink/Lesbian Jammer. I should also say here that her missus, Sable Sunset, is beyond wonderful and I adore her too:)
  5.  What is the most favorite thing in your inventory? (only pick one) Shit a brick; it’s almost *impossible* to pick something that’s a favourite. Also I had a mahoosive inventory crash a few years ago and lost some very valuable items, including some that my SL/RL friend Deedee Fadoodle had bought me, and they are irreplaceable. I think my favourite item of the moment is the amazing Bast mask that Cyberpink bought for me, just last night actually. It’s not only a beautiful piece, I love the fact that the creator has researched Bast for her marketplace advert. (If you know me you’ll know I have a bit of a Bast obsession:)
  6.  The last thing you purchased in Second Life? The ‘Cory’ over-sized sweater in black from Erratic. It’s fabulous:)
  7. What color clothing does your avatar wear most often? Black, Red or cat-print (Leopard, Tiger..that kind of thing)
  8. Do you prefer to walk, run or fly? I tend to walk, but I’m usually camming around a location using my Space Navigator anyway. They’re such a boon for a nosey person like myself.
  9.  What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done in SL?  Craziest thing I’ve ever done? Gosh, nothing really springs to mind. I’ve done some mad crazy amazing things in world for sure, but nothing is leaping out at me. I can tell you the maddest thing I’ve ever seen though because  it was so surreal I still chuckle about it today. I was dancing in the Three Lions in Bourton on a Sunday afternoon. While I was enjoying the tunes and the company, I suddenly heard this loud ‘boom’ from inside the game. I couldn’t identify the location, then out of the corner of my eye I saw something start to walk past the windows of the pub…it was Godzilla, or rather Godzilla’s leg that I could see. It was MASSIVE. Sure enough, Godzilla had discovered Bourton! (I could also tell you about the time DJ Mike Mission fell asleep during his live set in the pub, or when Prad Pravithi set the pub on fire (actually he did that A LOT) .but you’d be here all night. Suffice to say I have some corking Second Life memories.
  10.  Who would you like to play YOU, in the movie of your SLife? Hmm..playing Kitty would be interesting because she’s a gorgeous creature but alas, she has my personality! It would need a really good actress with a bit of meat on her bones, as well as plenty of sass and the ability to be completely random, and uber-forgetful. I liked the way Anne Hathaway portrayed Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises, but I’m not sure she would make a good Kitty O’toole because she needs a bigger arse! I’ll get back to you on this one:)
