SKIN FAIR 2015 – PXL ‘Aeryn’

aeryn brow_003

Another day, another SKIN FAIR 2015  post. Nope, I’m not sick of them by now, in fact,  anything but!  Every time I try on a new skin it’s a discovery for me, and all of the skins that I have tried so far have been incredibly pleasurable adventures.   The wearability and the versatility of the skins on show this year at SKIN FAIR are beyond compare in my opinion. It’s a really brilliant event and I am loving every minute!

So, onto today’s skin that I implore you to check out because she’s a wee cracker.  Her name isAeryn‘ and she’s from PXL , the skin brand from Hart Larsson.  I elected to trial her with my BELLEZA VENUS MESH BODY and I wasn’t disappointed. Far from it in fact, I was delighted because Aeryn is really enchanting and incredibly wearable.

So, details; what I like about this skin is that the shading is a little more defined upon her than the others that  I’ve tried so far. For some skin makers this would be a problem if they weren’t confident with their blending skills, but Hart’s done a great job of incorporating darker, shaded areas into the body of this skin without any harsh lines or areas that cause concern.  There’s great definition to the belly area and the breasts; they looked especially good when I wore them in the ‘push-up’ style on my BELLEZA body.  I opted to wear the natural tone and it’s a lovely warm colour with a  peachy glow, and  as with all the skins I’ve worn the  detail areas (such as the elbows, knees, feet etc) look great.

Of course it’s the face that makes or breaks a skin, and Aeryn doesn’t disappoint here at all.  She’s exceptionally pretty. As with all the skins I’ve talked about this week, I NEVER change my shape. Kitty’s shape is what makes her Kitty; it’s non-negotiable. Sometimes I tweak her a bit by adding a few pounds to her frame, but her face never changes, that’s set in stone. I can’t actually remember the last time that I changed anything on her chops, so it must have been a while ago!  Anyway, it’s always a surprise how different skins can change her facial features so much, and Aeryn is no exception.  She comes replete with eyeliner built into her look, so no need for me to add any makeup layers. The makeups I tested had subtle variations to the blush and all of them were equally good.  The lip colours are what really sets her apart for me though; you have a choice of four and word to the wise, get all of them.  I’m especially enamoured by the plummy-red gloss tone.

Something else that I really like about Aeryn, and I think shows thought from Hart, is the inclusion of a tintable eyebrow on the tattoo layer along with a ‘No Brow’ option. Oftentimes I’ve struggled with the inbuilt eyebrows on a skin and the ability to add your own really does make all the difference.   Sometimes your personal vision of the perfect brow just doesn’t match that of the skin creator, so including a browless base can make all the difference to if you purchase or not.

For example in these shots I’m wearing the  skin that includes the brow on the left, and the no-brow version on the right (I’ve added brows from NOX, currently available at the IDK event) and both of the looks are equally valid in my opinion, but it’s interesting how the lifted brow on the right adds more length to the face.  Incidentally, because PXL is the brand behind ‘Sweet Lips’ she comes with appliers too, and they’re pretty nifty indeed, as I hope you can see from the shots above.

I’ve had lots of fun styling Aeryn too…

For example, by adding this Brigitte Bardot-esque ‘Sharla’ Style by PLOOM (from The Kawaii Project) I’ve created a look to welcome in the Spring.  So there you have Aeryn. She’s super adaptable, easy to wear and absolutely gorgeous. I’m not the only one to think that either!  Go and check her out NOW at SKIN FAIR 2015 (SIM 1, Booth 32) Here’s your ride!

SKIN FAIR 2014 – Kitty The Seductress

Snapshot_009

I think I’ve mentioned before on these pages how much I love a well done make-up. Skins can be incredibly expensive, but make-ups are a great alternative to forking out squillions of Lindens on a complete skin package. Done badly they can look utterly terrible; I’ve seen some with dreadful seams and outlines that wouldn’t have fit an octopus, let alone a Second Life avatar. But done well, they really can take your look to the next level.

This year Skin Fair allowed some make-up creators to exhibit and one that has really excited me is Madrid Solo. I knew as soon as I saw her stand that I would have a very good time there, and I was right. Her ‘Seductress’ range of lip and eye-colours has been an absolute find for me this year. Guys they are exemplary. Beautiful colours of shadow and lips to mix and match, and each one has been created to a very high-standard for a virtual cosmetic. Occasionally you can find that  tattoo-layer lipsticks don’t quite work on the lines of the skin.  Why would they? Skins are an individual product after all, and a cosmetic addition can sometimes be a gamble, but I’m delighted to say that I’ve worn, and enjoyed wearing, Madrid’s range of cosmetics with a number of skins from the line-up this year and they’re worked effortlessly.

In the shot above I’m wearing ‘Nar Mattaru-Freya’ with shadow and lipstick from Madrid Solo’s ‘Seductress range. Doesn’t it look fab? Of course you need a solid base to work on, and ‘Freya’ is a sensational skin without enhancement, but it really does go all the way up to eleven when these colours are added, don’t you think?

Here I am wearing more colours on a different skin, the exquisite ‘Taylor’ in  Deep Tan from ELYSIUM.    This is a deeper tone than I would normally wear, but it is luscious and beautifully done. It comes replete with a bouquet of options to select from, including freckle options and brow colours, but I’ve opted for the lovely black brow here. By now you guys must have realised I have a brow fetish (well, as far as SL skins go!) but this one is a little different in that it doesn’t have the arching definition that some of the skins I’ve reviewed previously do. But that’s not a weakness, there’s something more real about the shape of these brows,  and when you zoom in you can see that they were created with great care. They look lovely.

In fact the face on this skin, whichever tone you opt for, is beautiful. The shape of the nose is lovely, as is the shading on the philtrum, clavicle and across the body.  The colour is constant and works extremely well, and the contour-blush adds great definition to the face. You can find some excellent bespoke lip-colours in this range too (but for this snap I am of course wearing items from Madrid Solo’s ‘Seductress’ series).

But don’t just take my word for it. Go to SKIN FAIR 2 and find Madrid Solo’s store, go in and prepare to be transported to pretty pretty make-up heaven.  The ‘Seductress’ range is L$50 per colour, L$850 for the fat pack and you’ll receive 15 eye-make ups and 4 lip colours. But that’s not all, there’s also a free gift in store, and while you’re there be sure to check out the ‘Melancholy’ eyes and also the absolutely fabulous ‘the Nudes’, which is a range of ten perfect lip-colours in TWO sizes.  I have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot of Madrid’s work on these pages in the near future, it’s utterly fantastic and I now consider myself a fan!

A crush with eyeliner..

So far my virtual 2013 has been all about two things: tattoo-layer cosmetics and mesh legwarmers ( more on those another time!)

My look has really changed in recent months (for the better I hope) and I attribute this to a number of things, but I think the main influences upon my recent style have been the continued emergence of quality mesh clothing and the development of excellent  tattoo layer and mesh cosmetics.

We all know that uber- quality skins are not cheap. Nor should they be; they take a lot of hard work to create.  Of course, there is huge discrepancy on skin-pricing across the grid, and when you find your perfect skin  forking out for a fat-pack that includes all the make-ups can be an eye-watering prospect.  Fortunately, tattoo-layer cosmetics can help.

Recently I’ve become somewhat obsessed with eyeliner. I don’t know why I like it so much. As a child I was a little bit besotted with Siouxsie Sioux and Toyah, so it’s probably a throwback to those days. Problem is you need to be expert at applying it in real life to pull it off, and I’m just useless at it.  My attempts at cat-eye/ winged liner in real life tend towards a spidery scrawl, and I can never get the darned flourishes  at the edge of the eyelid to match. Thank goodness the same doesn’t apply to Second Life!

For a relatively small outlay you can spice up your base skin and become the best looking avatar on the grid bar none.  It’s like having your very own virtual Girl’s World; it is so much fun trying out different combinations of skins and tattoo layers and eventually you could end up with a look that is totally unique to you.  Save your creations as outfits and you’ll have a legion of glorious looks to quickly change in and out of. (Plus in real life heavy eyeliner is a pisser to get right, and when it comes to taking it off you need industrial cleanser and a rainforest of tissue before you’ve even penetrated the ruddy stuff.  No mess Second Life wins again!)

The Cosmetics Fair 2013 finishes soon (April 30th) and it’s definitely worth a visit if you haven’t dropped by yet. It’s not a huge event by comparison to other recent occasions but it’s as equally rewarding and I’m confident you’ll spend more than a few happy hours lusting after the products on display. Ekilim Melodie, the event organiser, has brought together some of the very best cosmetic creators that the grid has to offer and you’ll find everything you could possibly need .

The event is sponsored by Action, BOOM, Glam Affair, *LpD*, PIDIDDLE and Pink Acid and features orgasmic creations from the sponsors and guests. Cam around the location and you’ll spy fabulous eye make-up, luscious lipsticks and glosses, natty nails and even some make-ups exclusively for the chaps.  From the avant-garde to the more mundane, it’s all available here.  There’s just so much to enjoy! Discover amazing patterns to adorn lips and lids, as well as practical devices such as a bum-cleavage  layer that hides your  builders bum crack, cheek definition and nose contour. It’s a must-visit.

You can demo a lot of items and I strongly suggest that you do just that before you buy.  Tattoo-layer cosmetics are cheaper than skins, but they can still be pricey items, so you must ensure you’re happy with your prospective purchases before you indulge.

So what can you do with them I hear you cry? Well, for the picture above I wanted to wear a strong eye-make up to compliment the One Bad Pixel Cheongsam that I’m wearing. (Note: this is a complete fib because there isn’t a single bad pixel on this dress, it’s outstanding.)  At the moment I’m completely besotted with Izzie’s Asia skinline.   The skin I’m wearing in this shot is a medium tone from that range with dark brows.  Izzie  Button really is a talented wee minx, and is also incredibly obliging because she already includes excellent eyeliners, lipsticks and eyeshadows as part of her range, but I wanted something that would really stand out from the crowd. Thank goodness for the ability to layer then. I wore my regular skin, with Izzie’s own  green eye-shadow  and raspberry lipstick to which I then added my first purchase from the Cosmetic Fair, the Blacklace Beauty Exotica V.2 shadows and liners. These are an absolute bargain at L$99 for the package, which includes 11 sensational colourways. Once that layer was applied I was close to achieving the look I wanted, and finished by adding prim lashes and stunning Ikon eyes.

The finished look is a bit of a corker isn’t it?

Image

Here’s a second demonstration of how fabulous tattoo-layers can be. I’m still wearing the dress, but fancied a change of hair and make up. This time I’ve switched to the Izzie’s Rose lipstick, and I’ve complimented it with eye make-up from Shakeup! Cosmetics. This is the Danielle range, and you get 8 colours in the range for L$150. I like the sparkle on this, and how the water-line of the eye is coloured too.  Scrumptious don’t you think?

So what really got me excited at the show? Well if you’re looking for eye designs you’d be foolish to neglect Mons.  For me, Mons really leads the way when it comes to tattoo-layer make-up, because  they’re consistently brilliant and always look divine.   The alternative-styled  avatars out there will find extremely precise, gothic liners and brows at Nuuna, and if you’re looking for killer lips check out Pink Acid for the glossiest gob on the grid.  Every vendor is a winner and you’re sure to find yourself laden with goodies when you leave the sim.

Before I close this post I must mention Mons again, and insist that you check out the eyeliner I discovered from them at this month’s Zodiac event.  It’s called ‘Burning Eyeshadow’  and it is a total winner. I’m wearing it with a dress that I spied there too from Valentina E,  called ‘Le Matadora’ and  by heck it’s good. I knew I had to have it as soon as I laid eyes upon it! The name of the dress immediately identifies with Taurus, the subject of Zodiac this month, and it’s a beautiful mesh frock with a fabulous pattern and matching scarf.  This is a really elegant couture number that’s available in a selection of colours and is exclusive to the event. I detest bull-fighting but I’m completely in love with this!
