WITCHY WEDNESDAY: ALL ABOUT THE ALCHEMY

WITCHY WEDNESDAY: ALL ABOUT THE ALCHEMY

Alchemy

This week’s ‘Witchy Wednesday’ is a bit special, because we’re not just featuring one item that has a Witchy theme, but an actual event.  Not just any event either, but a quality affair with fans all over the grid that eagerly clamour into the sim and crash it every month upon opening day!

Of course  I’m talking about Collabor88, which this month has ‘Modern Alchemy’ as a theme. If you’re an Alchemical Witch then you really won’t want to miss it, but even if you aren’t  I am sure you’ll be pleased as punch to see this unusual concept celebrated at such a popular event.

Alchemy is associated with Witchcraft because it’s an Occult tradition, spanning at least 2500 years, with all the great civilisations counting Alchemists amongst their ranks. These were important, educated people often with influence upon society, and Alchemy itself was considered serious science, whereas now it tends to be thought of as whimsy or the stuff of fiction.  But there are still ardent followers amongst Pagan folk.

But what is Alchemy? I found a great definition HERE: ” Alchemy refers to any process that might add value or usefulness to unrefined materials, although it is often thought of as a medieval philosophy and an early form of chemistry, and it usually conjures up images of a medieval “scholar” in his laboratory, surrounded by piles of rare books and manuscripts, test-tubes, retorts, alembics and other paraphernalia generally associated with chemical experiments. Over time, it has come to be used in popular language to refer to any magical power or process of transmuting a common substance, usually of little value, into a substance of great value…”

Transformation is the key word here, and that’s how it translates to the fashion, furniture and dwellings that you’ll find at this month’s showcase. I’m particularly impressed by how so many creators have approached the theme seriously and clearly done their research into the subject. Prime examples of this are LARK, with Sienia Trevellion demonstrating a total understanding of the brief with her ‘Elemental Bookcase‘, and the absolutely sensational ‘Digital Alchemy’ Necklaces from SCHADENFREUDE, that feature all the symbols and sigils that an Alchemist would use. Finally, any aspiring High Priestess worth her salt (tenuous alchemy link there!) must  check out the ‘Bellatrix Dress’ from NOODLES.

Every Collabor88 round this year has proved to be an absolute phenomenon, and this one is no exception. Bring your elements into balance by clicking HERE to visit.

Because Halloween falls on a Friday this year, many parties have extended into the weekend and my social network timelines are full of fantastic costumes and glorious ghouls in both real and second lives. Sadly, I’ve not been able to partake of any parties in either domain purely because I’m on call for RL work this weekend; which means that you can pretty much guarantee a call if I you’re enjoying yourself! So, I opted to play it safe, and wasn’t going to log in (because I’d feel left out) when I got an email to tell me that I’d received a rather special Halloween present. And oh my word, it’s pretty spectacular…

This is the Dahlia Dress from BAIASTICE, and as usual SISSY PESSOA has nailed it again. ‘It’ of course meaning stunning fashion with fantastic texture, detail and design.

This is an astonishing gown; it features a gorgeous damask fabric with an intricate corset design to the front. The back plunges, allowing it to be worn with this sensational collar accessory, which features a fantastic mesh spine! To bring the elements together there’s a stylish hat  and matching gloves too.  The hat is adorned with ribbons and foliage and finishes with a grand veil across the front. The mesh fits extremely well, and the gloves with their eye-popping (literally) sharp claws make for a particularly thrilling touch.  It’s a breathtaking ensemble. If your kind of Halloween is high-class, then this is the outfit for you. I felt beautiful in this, really elegant but with a demonic edge. The imagination and craftsmanship that has gone into creating this is clearly on show for all to see, and it sure turns heads. I’ve been complimented on this dress a number of times and it’s been a real pleasure to point avatars in the direction of UBER SL, where the Dahlia Dress collection can be found.

Obviously I’ve opted for red, but the gown is available in ten colours, which makes it incredibly versatile. There’s even a white version, which would make an absolutely dazzling alternative/ Gothic wedding dress. The spine is detachable should you want a little more formality to your outfit, but why you would want to remove it is beyond me, it looks so striking and unexpected when you turn around. Congratulations Sissy on this amazing collection!

Note, I have done NO work on this picture at all, which is why you can see the little glitch on my left hip.

I really wanted to show you how awesome this skin was WITHOUT any enhancements by me; if you click on the picture you can zoom in for an even better look!

NAR MATTARU, as regular readers will no doubt have become aware, has been a revelation for me in 2014. This skin label pushes all my buttons, and then some, and I’ve become somewhat nauseatingly enamoured by it:)
It’s not hard to become that way inclined though, Jade Glazner keeps releasing great skins that are easy to wear yet offer a slightly less conventional slant to them. Even a plainer skin has an edge that makes it ideal for urban styling, and I can’t get enough of her work.

Her latest release that I am proudly sporting here is called Zoe. As usual it’s available in 8 beautifully polished tones, my favourite being Tone 03. There are five brow colour options as well as a no brows option too, and there’s also an extra-special pale version as Group Gift in store. I’ve not worn a super pale skin for absolutely aeons, but for NAR MATTARU skins I’ll make an exception, and of course, it’s perfect for Halloween.
Zoe has lots of extras available including a fantastic range of lipsticks, eyeliners and even french manicures on sale in Jade’s main store. Each tone is L$1000, and includes appliers for Slink Physique, which is pretty awesome, plus there’s a stack of other applier needs catered too as well:

• Luck Inc. Azz
• Lolas Tango
• Wowmeh
• #TheMeshProject (TMP)

Jade’s been a busy lass, and must be suffering epic applier fatigue! I’ll tell you another awesome thing too, each applier hud contains ALL of the tones. That saves lots of pennies if you like to wear different skin tones on different occasions, and that is very generous if you ask me:)

Oh, and in case you were wondering about the title to this post? Whenever I hear the name ‘Zoe’, my brain automatically thinks of this...  But from now on, I’ll be thinking about this absolutely storming skin. It really is an absolute corker.

Oh, and a final note: In the main store you’ll find a sale on older skins. Taryn is 20% off (all appliers in one pack for L$350) and Erys and Freya are ‘2for1’ as well as 50% off, with all appliers in one pack for L$250. I can’t stress enough what great value this is, exceptional skins at exceptional prices that you simply must treat yourself to.

Vintage & Cool

Denim Jacket Kitty

The Vintage & Cool Fair doesn’t end until Friday 24th October, so you have plenty of time to visit this event.

I’ve popped back to it a number of times over the past few days, it’s one of those types of events that stands up well to repeat visits, particularly because of the layout.  I also really like that there are some great photo opportunities featuring vintage cars dotted around the place. As always with events I’ve discovered many new content creators, and I’m particularly impressed by the poses of offer from DYER MAKER.  Guys, my inventory is fit to burst with all the poses in there.I really don’t need anymore; yet I decided to splurge on the ‘Against the Wall’ and the ‘Pin Up Poses’ that were available at the event.  Then I just had to go and visit the main-store to pick up a few more. Curses!

So anyway, here’s another look I’ve put together in a retro style. The Tattoo is a new release from JOLI, and the fab skull and heart necklace is a gift from MAXI GOSSAMER. If you’re in the group get your tag on and go and collect it from the main-store, but hurry, it’s being replaced next week…Phew!  There are so many events and so many new releases on the grid at the moment, have you spotted anything amazing that you’d care to share in the comments?
