Season Of The Witch is in full swing gang, and every day there’s something wonderful to discover. I created a pretty, Bohemian look blending items from the event with a little furry friend that I discovered at THE EPIPHANY.   My skin is an AMARA BEAUTY Catwa applier,  ‘Anita’, that I’m using as a base for this WARPAINT eyeshadow that adds just the perfect touch of colour to the eye area.

The broom park behind me is from CANDLE & CAULDRON at SOTW, and it’s incredibly cute and adds a real witchy flavour to your abode! Details of the look are all below, enjoy!

July is in full swing and it’s a BUSY time of year guys and gals, and with so many events running at the moment it’s hard to know which way to turn or where to spend you hard-earned Linden Dollars. Blogs such as ELOQUENCE (and SERAPHIM) do an epic job of featuring the majority of in-world events so that you can see if there’s anything that you fancy before you try to TP in, and for that we owe them our gratitude. It must have been an absolutely enormous task recording the releases and photographing them at the HAIR FAIR Blogger preview last night, yet Vixen Thibedeau has done a sterling job.  (I was there for about five or six hours, got lost twice, spent way too much and felt completely overwhelmed by it all, so pity the poor blogger that has done all the legwork for you!)

If you don’t use blogs such as ELOQUENCE or SERAPHIM to plan your event visits then I really do recommend that you start doing so now. I never land at an event now unless I’ve had a good look at what is on offer beforehand. I go to each event with my list in hand, get my shopping accomplished and get the hell outta Dodge! I’ll return once the initial furore has died down towards the end of the event run, and then I can happily wander around and take in the build, the displays and the ambiance of the place. (Oh, and stare at all the avatars in attendance and scrutinise what they’re wearing. Ahem, no, I don’t, honest.)

Today’s ‘Look Of The Day’ then includes some items that can be found at events that are currently setting the grid on fire. I’ve gone for a dressed down look today, with the key element being this absolutely ravishing hairstyle from a brand called ‘MURRAY’.  I’ve never heard of them before yet I think they’re going to have an exceptional HAIR FAIR 2015, because all the styles they offer at the event are flawlessly executed. There’s no fuss, no tortured prims or misaligned mesh to be seen and no flatness of texture either; but you will discover hair that is beautifully styled, textured and utterly perfect when worn. (Regular visitors will have noticed that I’m wearing a long hairstyle and shock, horror Kitty-readers but most of the styles that I have purchased at HAIR FAIR 2015 have been loose and flowing, rather than my normal much-loved bob shapes. Clearly I’m sickening for something!)

But back to MURRAY; the reason I fell for this ‘Giorgia’ style is because, well, just look. It’s perfect isn’t it? This is the ultimate in plain and simple long hair. Some people may think that when you’re launching at such an occasion you should go out all guns blazing and throw some seriously fancy styles our way, but actually I think it is far better to start as you mean to go on. It would be way too easy to throw avant-garde and over-the-top styles at us but we’d wear them once, twice maybe before throwing them into the backs of our inventories, and I don’t know about you but mine is bursting at the seams as is. Better to launch with something with universal appeal in my opinion, which is what they have done with all four of their HAIR FAIR releases.

You know you should never disregard ‘simple’. It takes a proper artist to make something look so easy and effortless, when behind the scenes it’s actually very difficult to do. Hair creation in world can be merciless after all. MURRAY is a brand that has started with, well, not so much of a bang, but definitely not a whimper. (I think an assertive stamp of the foot?)
They’re a brand I’m going to be watching with interest and I cannot wait to see what further items they come up with during the remainder of 2015. Incidentally, if you’re curious about the flower it’s actually a freebie in recognition of HAIR FAIR’s 10th birthday and comes in a pack of 6 different shades for you to enjoy from TABLEAU VIVANT. (When you do manage to get in watch out for the freebies that the majority of vendors have placed out for us, there are some absolute cracking styles that people are giving away!) It looks beautiful with this ZOUL CREATIONS ‘Della’ skin and I’ve resurrected my PXL Sweet Lips from my inventory to wear too. Why? Because they’re plain awesome!

My dress is another summer release from the APHORISM label. Rucy Byron is turning into a virtual design powerhouse in 2015 consistently releasing quality fashion for male and female avatars; the dress is available in either pattern, plain or floral flavours and encapsulates perfectly the Boho vibe that seems to be rocking Second Life in 2015. You’ll find it at THE SEASONS STORY.  To accessorise, I’ve added a nose-ring from the latest round of OMG GACHA! which is full of Summer and kawaii-themed delights with loads of machines to play.

There really is so much going on this weekend/this month/this summer in-world that you’ve absolutely no excuse not to find something that you’ll enjoy, and don’t forget that INDIE TEEPEE is in full swing over the weekend too, don’t miss it! ( I previewed it in my last post here)

Kitty In The Kitchy!

Kitty In The Kitchy!

Kitty in the kitchy

I wanted to take a step away from blogging about skins (I’ve written so much about skins recently that I have developed a twitch), but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to tell you about. As I mooched around my skybox thinking of a blog post to write, it suddenly struck me; let me share some details about my virtual home.  I love reading LOVE TO DECORATE so why not share my Kitty-space with my readers?

I’m going to share posts with you about my Skybox over the forthcoming few days.  I’ll tell you how it’s decorated and hopefully show you why I love it so. I’ve lived many different places,  but I always keep this skybox as my super-secret ‘Kitty Lair’. I’ve owned it for a number of years now and the place where it’s ‘moored’ is cheap for rent and out of the way up high in the clouds so that I am nice and secluded and never bothered by neighbours. I’ve lived on the ground until recently too, but I always come back to my skybox because it feels like home. The way this space is decorated and displayed is probably the most authentic representation of my real-life self within the virtual world that is my second home. I absolutely adore it.

The build itself is a BARNESWORTH ANUBIS creation, called ‘NYC Apartment Skybox’. It costs a cheap-as-chips L$400 ion the marketplace, and has a lovely low land-impact of just 30.  It’s incredibly roomy and open-plan which makes for lots of fun when decorating. I have loads of skyboxes in my inventory but this one suits me perfectly, and I always come back to it. My only wish would be for perhaps an extra couple of rooms (or even a second level) but that’s not something that I am in desperate need of, just a dream that I file under ‘Nice-to-have’. Like all Barnesworth’s builds,  it’s beautifully textured and the details are absolutely perfect. Oh, and because it’s a New York City apartment the view out of the windows is of the great city itself a place I will visit one day, but for now my skybox will have to suffice.

As you walk in the first thing you see is a large space with a kitchen clearly visible. Which is funny because the big tiled space is actually designated as a bathroom BUT for me it screamed out for a glorious kitchen and some suitably fancy decoration, which is just what I added. I have TWO favourite kitchens in Second Life. They are the BAZAR ‘Toronto Kitchen’ because of the modular options and ability to adapt it to many different designs, and this TROMPE LOEIL  ‘Retro’ number.  I’ve never had any issues fitting and adapting this to suit my needs. It’s absolutely perfect with a 1950’s feel and the animations that are incorporated make for some great photo opportunities.

Obviously, my thing is cats both in RL and SL. That’s no different in my skybox either, and as soon as you enter you’re surrounded by cats of every shape and size; some decorative, others who live with me. The kitchen space is no different, in fact,  I used the TROMPE LOEIL kitchen cabinets to house my precious SCHADENFREUDE Chibi Cats collection. There are also four FASHIONABLY DEAD cats mooching around in the space, but that’s because I keep my HALF DEER litter tray and food bowls here too.
The window above my kitchen cabinets lets in much-needed light to illuminate the area but is also the ideal spot to grow a few culinary herbs too! This is where my ORGANICA’Hanging Bamboo Herb Planter’ really comes into its own. At night,  the kitchen is illuminated by my ‘Addison’ chandeliers in Red by MUDHONEY. I love the shape and simplicity of these, and rather than just having one I decided to be super decadent and have four in my kitchen. Their colour brings the fiery red elements of the kitchen together perfectly and blends beautifully with my ‘Gerzzo’ chairs and table from THE LOFT which extend the retro vibe.

In the Kitchen

I decorate my kitchen according to the season; sometimes I have pots of warming soup boiling on the stove, or enormous pizzas bursting out of the box ready to be devoured. I use gacha prizes to decorate and bring the kitchen to life, and I’m rocking a pile of dirty dishes from HODGEPODGE next to my sink. My favourite Vice Jars from COMMONER have pride of place next to a brilliant animated BITTER VANILLA cutting board, which has a number of fruits, vegetables and breads available for selection. You’ll also spy a few items from NYLON PINKNEY (‘Sleepy Cat Pot’ in Red and CopyCat Art ‘Feed Me’ poster) along with a fabulous Industrial Baker’s Rack from SECOND SPACES that I’ve added a few pieces to. I have a great ‘Kitchen Element Sign’ in Red from CASITA opposite the most important part of the kitchen; the place where I make my frequent cups of tea and indulge in my favourite snack of hot, buttered toast. I love my ‘Gerzzo’ kettle (another THE LOFT creation)  and my TARTESSOS ARTS animated toaster which pops the toast out in a violent manner similar to the till in ‘Open All Hours’ (British comedy, utterly brilliant). My favourite thing in this corner has to be my LARK ‘Teafor2’ embroidery though; it’s just so perfectly done and looks so sweet in the corner.

I serve my tea from a BEACH STREET Tardis tea-pot into NOODLES Doctor Who style mugs, gazing over at my wall art. It’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ from IONIC, a very old acquisition which I retextured to fit in with the theme of my kitchen, and it just works perfectly.

Last but not least my virtual day is accompanied by a soundtrack of tunes belting out from my SOY Vintage Boom Box, stowed away in the corner out of harm’s way ( I got fed up of the cats jumping up and knocking it flying!) So there you have it, my virtual kitchen. It’s the centre of my home and I absolutely love it, so if you’ll excuse me I have a pile of dirty dishes to wash, kitties to feed and brews to be made. Fancy a cuppa?

Why not share the details of your Second Life home or specific rooms that you love?  I’ll feature the rest of my home over the forthcoming days..stay tuned!

WITCHY WEDNESDAY: ALL ABOUT THE ALCHEMY

WITCHY WEDNESDAY: ALL ABOUT THE ALCHEMY

Alchemy

This week’s ‘Witchy Wednesday’ is a bit special, because we’re not just featuring one item that has a Witchy theme, but an actual event.  Not just any event either, but a quality affair with fans all over the grid that eagerly clamour into the sim and crash it every month upon opening day!

Of course  I’m talking about Collabor88, which this month has ‘Modern Alchemy’ as a theme. If you’re an Alchemical Witch then you really won’t want to miss it, but even if you aren’t  I am sure you’ll be pleased as punch to see this unusual concept celebrated at such a popular event.

Alchemy is associated with Witchcraft because it’s an Occult tradition, spanning at least 2500 years, with all the great civilisations counting Alchemists amongst their ranks. These were important, educated people often with influence upon society, and Alchemy itself was considered serious science, whereas now it tends to be thought of as whimsy or the stuff of fiction.  But there are still ardent followers amongst Pagan folk.

But what is Alchemy? I found a great definition HERE: ” Alchemy refers to any process that might add value or usefulness to unrefined materials, although it is often thought of as a medieval philosophy and an early form of chemistry, and it usually conjures up images of a medieval “scholar” in his laboratory, surrounded by piles of rare books and manuscripts, test-tubes, retorts, alembics and other paraphernalia generally associated with chemical experiments. Over time, it has come to be used in popular language to refer to any magical power or process of transmuting a common substance, usually of little value, into a substance of great value…”

Transformation is the key word here, and that’s how it translates to the fashion, furniture and dwellings that you’ll find at this month’s showcase. I’m particularly impressed by how so many creators have approached the theme seriously and clearly done their research into the subject. Prime examples of this are LARK, with Sienia Trevellion demonstrating a total understanding of the brief with her ‘Elemental Bookcase‘, and the absolutely sensational ‘Digital Alchemy’ Necklaces from SCHADENFREUDE, that feature all the symbols and sigils that an Alchemist would use. Finally, any aspiring High Priestess worth her salt (tenuous alchemy link there!) must  check out the ‘Bellatrix Dress’ from NOODLES.

Every Collabor88 round this year has proved to be an absolute phenomenon, and this one is no exception. Bring your elements into balance by clicking HERE to visit.
