MBA: I love a bit of VINYL!

MBA: I love a bit of VINYL!

Rough spots_002Well, I do, and it’s pleased me no end that there was an upsurge in sales of vinyl records and traditional record decks over the past few months. There’s something very comforting about listening to music from an LP; it sounds ‘warmer’ and the occasional crackle and pop as the needle bounces in and out of the grooves just adds something to the whole experience.

In-world, you can get the same warm, fuzzy feeling from VINYL clothing.  I love the designs that are available in-store and I’m a huge fan of the brand.  It’s all about the details for me, and even something as simple as this ‘Beal’ dress (and trust me, it is incredibly simple, in fact we’re talking ‘catch-your-death’ short!) features plenty of them.  Great shape and texture are a feature across the entire VINYL range and ‘Beal’ is no exception, but it’s what you can do with this dress that counts.  It’s perfect fodder for embellishment, and I added my all-time favourite jacket by EMERY, along with these absolutely essential FRI.DAY heels to make the perfect outfit for dancing!

Short, sassy and simple-is it me or has this been the absolute best round of MESH BODY ADDICTS BI-MONTHLY yet?

Fifty Linden Friday is BACK!

Fifty Linden Friday is BACK!

…from the mists of time! Yes, that’s right readers, one of the most popular and quintessential Second Life events ever has returned to grace the grid.

Yup, I’m talking about Fifty Linden Friday and it’s back with a bang, crash and wallop even bigger and better than before:)

(Happy sigh) It’s as though it never went away, and it was a real joy to see that the crowds were out in force earlier as I toured the vendors for all fifteen  participants.  I’m delighted to say that the quality of the goods hasn’t diminished one jot.

This time around you’re looking at items from:

Fri.Day 􀀋
Meshworx 􀀍
Pig 􀀁
Wasabi Pills 􀀈
Funky Junk 􀀀
One Bad Pixel 􀀆
Adore & Abhor 􀀊
Glitterati 􀀇
Schadenfreude 􀀃
Glow Studio 􀀉
Cheeky Pea 􀀏
Ingenue 􀀅
Surf Co 􀀄

And there are some absolute must have purchases too. The lamp and frame from Meshworks,  the mesh boots from Deco, the totally gorgeous bob that I’m wearing in both pictures from Wasabi Pills and the make-up from Adore & Abhor all made my list.  (I’m wearing the eyeliner in this shot, looks great doesn’t it?) I also treated myself to the plum babytux lingerie from One Bad Pixel, but an absolute MUST BUY this week has to be Glitterati’s amazing photo prop, featuring 5 poses which come to life when you add shadows. Astonishing, and it  meant I could make this amazing wee picture below:

An SL competition you MUST enter!

An SL competition you MUST enter!

..because it will be *tons* of fun to do, and pretty painless all things considered!

Katey Coppola, the mad genius behind ‘Glitterati’, has teamed up with Kaz Nayer, clothing designer extraordinaire, for a fun photo competition with some corking prizes. All you have to do is take a picture using a Glitterati pose whilst wearing an item or items of Nayar clothing. Simple huh? But even better, this contest allows even Nayar dollarbie clothing items to be used in the shots, and Katey has even provided us with a pack of special poses FOR FREE in her store (although you can use any pose you like so long as it’s Glitterati) Spiffing, what?

The prizes are as follows:

10,000L in cash
5,000L gift card to GLITTERATI.

5,000L in cash
2500L gift card to GLITTERATI.

1,000L in cash
1,000L gift card to GLITTERATI.

Banging huh? This is a GREAT contest, and I hadn’t been to Nayar for ages so it encouraged me to go and I’m mighty glad I did. Kaz’s stuff ROCKS! I threw together a ‘Rock Chicklet’ look using a load of items from my inventory, and two Nayar items;I’m wearing the Nayar ‘Pulled Fishnet Tank’ in black, along with the ‘Destroyed Denim Mini’, and I think it really looks the part. A bit Kat Von D-ish, don’tcha think? The pose I’m using is ‘Glitterati-Contest Single 4’. ( Incidentally, ‘Single 5’ is now one of my fave Glitterati poses EVER, but I couldn’t use it for my shot owing to my overt hairyness getting in the way! )
This is going to be my entry, but if you think you can do better, and to be fair you probably can, then poddle off to Glitterati and collect your free pose pack, which you’ll need because it contains ALL the rules as well as specific photo submission details. Then bugger off over to Nayar and get some goodies to wear.

The deadline for photo submissions will be JUNE 4TH at MIDNIGHT SLT…GOOD LUCK!

Glitterati Modelling Chair..

Glitterati Modelling Chair..

Never let it be said that there aren’t any ‘nice’ designers in Second Life..there are actually tons of them out there. I know a lot of residents are of the opinion that the majority of designers are all divas, but in my experience that could not be farther from the truth. In all my years of SL-ing, I’ve encountered ONE such designer, and despite the attitude they displayed I still think their work is amazeballs….
One designer who ranks among the NICEST avatars upon the grid is Katey Coppola. Katey is the kind of person who, when you meet her, is just so darn lovely that you want to squeeze her really hard; she is literally that yummy.  She’s blessed with practically no ego and a great sense of humour something that  a lot of people, never mind designers, could do well to take the lead from Katey’s example. She’s also AMAZINGLY talented, as anyone who has ever visited Glitterati will tell you. She creates some of the best poses on the grid, and is just about to relocate to a new store which means she is having a mega-sale on pose packs at the moment, so you’ve got just under a week if you’re interested…ANYWAY..what I want to tell you about is THIS CHAIR. Katey has worked her buns off to make it, and perfectionist that she is, she’s scrapped a lot of poses only to start from scratch and replace them with new ones-she sure is a grafter. This isn’t on sale yet, so consider it a sneaky peaky BUT you *will* want one:) The chair is a wonderfully squashy, contemporary take on an art-deco design (although the chair in this photo is the prototype, so may well change texture etc before release date) and there are 8 poses embedded within it. It’s menu-driven and uber-simple to use and provides excellent results.

I was lucky enough to test this chair out with Amanda and a few of Katey’s chums. She wanted critical feedback about the poses which I was only happy to give, and in all seriousness folks, I couldn’t fault it. The transition between each pose is lovely and smooth, and the poses themselves are great quality. Obviously in this picture I’m clothed, but you could use the poses for lingerie/burlesque shots or even steamy nekkid shots if you so wish, and you’d be more than happy with the results:) There are some more photos of me using the chair in my Flickr bar, and I will be featuring it in shoots over forthcoming posts. I don’t know how much it will retail for and when exactly it will go on sale, but quality like this is definitely worth the wait and it makes me wonder, if Katey has been working on projects like this for her re-launch, what other surprises does she have in store?? Ooh the excitement! I can’t wait!!
