A Jolly Good Read

A Jolly Good Read

I was going to write an EPIC blog-post tonight of such absolutely gargantuan proportions that it would have become known as  ‘..the best blog post ever written about Second Life..’

Unfortunately, I am way too tired to achieve this epic feat that would surely have bagged me metaversal fortune and glory.

My left eyeball is doing that strange twitching thing it insists on doing when I need my bed, and my right eye is practically asleep of its own accord.  Fortunately, I can retire early and take some quality Second Life reading material up to Bedfordshire with me. I have two selections to share with you..

My first choice is the latest edition of STYLE KINGDOM.  This esteemed publication is celebrating its second anniversary, and the issue is absolutely bursting at the virtual seams with awesome. There’s so much work that has gone into producing this magazine with sensational photography on practically every page. I am really taken with the Fall fashion feature, beginning on page 45, which showcases some fabulous must-have items for both genders. It’s a really excellent collection of practical and stylish pieces, and is sure to make you hungry for virtual shopping. If you’re looking for style inspiration you’ll find it within these pages for sure.

The October edition of FUSION magazine is out now too, featuring a child avatar, Saddie Hurricane, on the cover. I think this could be a first for one of the more well-known magazines, and it’s good to see.  I enjoy the Halloween theme of the magazine, and it showcases some of the most popular Halloween haunts (excuse the pun!) that have been created in-world this year.  There’s a great photo review of Havenhollow, which offered all the fun of trick or treating without having to step outside into cold, dark reality. (It also provided some exceptional scares too, and has to be one of the most fun things that I’ve experienced In Second Life!) I also really like the Fall Living Room created for FUSION by Britain Knave. Check out the living room image featured on pages 58/59 and tell me that you wouldn’t want to be snuggled up there!

Right, pass me my cocoa. I’ve got my PJ’s on and I’m snuggled under the duvet ready to enjoy a relaxing read. Wanna join me?

These Boots Were Made For Autumn

These Boots Were Made For Autumn

kinky boots

It’s the law that whenever I write about boots or shoes, my troll brain starts singing either ‘Kinky Boots’ or ‘These Boots Are Made for Walking’. Tonight it’s the latter, because I am stomping around in these wee numbers from LVLE. They’ve been lovingly made by Cyclic Gearz and are really simple yet super-effective ankle boots featuring zips to the side. I really hope that Cyclic is going to consider adding different textures to this style of boot, because I really like the shape of them. In particular, leather and faux croc patterns would look rather dandy don’t you think?

Oneword November 2014 Autumn Poster

They’re available in a selection of seasonal shades from ONEWORD, which is a bimonthly event created around one single word, which of course this month is AUTUMN.

Gone ‘Til Sad November

Gone ‘Til Sad November

Kitty The Dolle

Remember that post I wrote, ooh a couple of months ago now, moaning about the fact that there are way too many events and I can’t keep up? Well, that kind of still stands, but I have to say that making the effort to try and hit all the new events this month will undoubtedly reap rewards. In fact, it’s starting to already. There’s a new event on the block called SAD NOVEMBER. November is an odd time; cold, gloomy and kind of a non-event as months go. Everyone is geared up for December after all, and the onset of long, cold days and even darker nights seems to conjure up the worst kind of bleakness and moods in people. But I think SAD NOVEMBER can go some way to addressing all that. Despite the name it’s not even a little bit sad, in fact, it’s pretty darn happy. Or at least I was, sploshing around in puddles and flitting from store to store on this beautifully decorated sim bursting with almost 100 designers covering every possible want or desire. If you’re looking for the ultimate winter coat you’ll find plenty to choose from here, and my jumper fetish* was more than satisfied as I wandered around marvelling at the goodies on offer.

On reflection, perhaps I should refine my point about events; I don’t have time to bother with half-hearted attempts, just the quality ones. SAD NOVEMBER  really fits into the quality category; like THE SEASONS STORY it’s as much of a treat for the eyes as it is a shock to the Linden wallet! The location is really beautiful with falling rain, leaf-filled puddles and industrial buildings juxtaposed with meandering paths and natural landscapes. It’s a great place to take photographs, and I really enjoyed taking my time and allowing myself to really absorb the atmosphere here.
But back to the goodies. You’ll find hairstyles, tattoos, jewellery, footwear as well as leggings, jeans, jumpers, jackets and coats. It is all here and so much effort has gone into the creations available for you to buy. It’s really good to see so much quality, original mesh in one place too. SAD NOVEMBER my backside; I was walking around grinning like the kitty that had got all the cream, and the cow as well! <Chuckle>
So I know you’re wondering what I bought? LOTS of demos. There’s a lot to see here, and out of respect to other avatars I wore as few scripts as I possibly could and nabbed loads of demos to try on at home. This means my already sagging inventory is now bursting with demos, but I’ll be able to try on at leisure and go back to purchase more stuff. (It’s such a lovely location it’s not exactly a hardship to return!)
BUT I did treat myself to something while I was there without trying on a demo first. Aren’t I brave? Well, not really, you see the fact that this item was made by DOLLE meant I could confidently purchase it without any worries. DOLLE make great mesh clothing and I have a number of pieces in my collection that I really enjoy wearing, and this lovely Cardigan is now lovingly folded up in my inventory amongst my most treasured woollens. This is one that I’ll hand-wash with care for sure!
It’s the kind of item that will go with EVERYTHING too.  I’m talking, jeans, skirts, leggings, heels and boots. For a sexy, funky look pull on a pair of long boots and wear alone (don’t forget your undies!), or alternatively try adding a chunky scarf and some low loafers and cord trousers.  An outfit perfect for wandering around and kicking leaves and supping Pumpkin Spiced Lattes galore! (True fact: I’ve NEVER had one of those!)

I know I say this a lot but I really do need this in real life. It’s utterly lovely, and the off-shoulder shape means it has a sexy edge, that is if you consider a cardigan can ever be sexy! Hey, at least it shows off my tats really well! ( I SAID TATS!!)
My only complaint is that there just aren’t enough colours available; I would really love this in some more primary shades, but make no mistake it’s a cracking find. I’ll be featuring some more items from SAD NOVEMBER throughout the month I’m sure, but as events go this really is one that you must not miss.

Here’s your taxi!

*There’s no doubt in my head that if I was a cat I would be one of those kinds of moggies that likes to chew wool and drool on jumpers.
** I was walking around singing ‘November Rain’ by Guns ‘N’ Roses which then got me onto ‘Gone ’til November’ by Wyclef Jean. In fact, here’s a really great Spotify playlist all about November!

Demon Kitty

Because Halloween falls on a Friday this year, many parties have extended into the weekend and my social network timelines are full of fantastic costumes and glorious ghouls in both real and second lives. Sadly, I’ve not been able to partake of any parties in either domain purely because I’m on call for RL work this weekend; which means that you can pretty much guarantee a call if I you’re enjoying yourself! So, I opted to play it safe, and wasn’t going to log in (because I’d feel left out) when I got an email to tell me that I’d received a rather special Halloween present. And oh my word, it’s pretty spectacular…

Baiastice Collage

This is the Dahlia Dress from BAIASTICE, and as usual SISSY PESSOA has nailed it again. ‘It’ of course meaning stunning fashion with fantastic texture, detail and design.

This is an astonishing gown; it features a gorgeous damask fabric with an intricate corset design to the front. The back plunges, allowing it to be worn with this sensational collar accessory, which features a fantastic mesh spine! To bring the elements together there’s a stylish hat  and matching gloves too.  The hat is adorned with ribbons and foliage and finishes with a grand veil across the front. The mesh fits extremely well, and the gloves with their eye-popping (literally) sharp claws make for a particularly thrilling touch.  It’s a breathtaking ensemble. If your kind of Halloween is high-class, then this is the outfit for you. I felt beautiful in this, really elegant but with a demonic edge. The imagination and craftsmanship that has gone into creating this is clearly on show for all to see, and it sure turns heads. I’ve been complimented on this dress a number of times and it’s been a real pleasure to point avatars in the direction of UBER SL, where the Dahlia Dress collection can be found.

Obviously I’ve opted for red, but the gown is available in ten colours, which makes it incredibly versatile. There’s even a white version, which would make an absolutely dazzling alternative/ Gothic wedding dress. The spine is detachable should you want a little more formality to your outfit, but why you would want to remove it is beyond me, it looks so striking and unexpected when you turn around. Congratulations Sissy on this amazing collection!
