Horrorfest 2013: Spooky Fashions That Work All Year Round..

Halloween may be over, but  Horrorfest 2013 is still going strong and raising lots of lovely cash for The Epilepsy Therapy Project.  The event doesn’t finish until November 8th, and I urge you to go if you haven’t visited yet.

Of course, now that the Samhain season has passed, you may be feeling that the time for buying the spooky wares on display has ended, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Many of the items have lasting appeal and can be adapted to suit different looks and outfits. Here is a couple of examples to get you going. In the picture above I’m sporting the FRI.DAY ‘Raven’ hood while I enjoy an Autumnal jaunt in the woods. I’ve slipped it over the COQUET ‘Miranda’ frock that I picked up at this round of FAMESHED, but you can add it to a variety of outfits and it remains really effective. Of course, you can wear it as part of a role-play set-up too; add a quiver of arrows, and you’re well on your way to evoking the spirit of a famous woodland outlaw.

Here’s another example; I added my DRD ‘Skeletonhands’ necklace to a jumper by ERRATIC and some leggings from NYLON OUTFITTERS to conjure up a spooky everyday look that works whatever the season.

Snapshot_004What I’m trying to get across here is that even though the theme may be Horror, it doesn’t have to be restricted to October and the darker months of the year; in Second Life anything goes after all!

Taxi to Horrorfest 2013? Here you go..

Kitty Quicky – Limited Bazaar

Kitty Quicky – Limited Bazaar

Snapshot_004A Kitty Quicky for you: Run, don’t walk and get yourself to the ‘Limited Bazaar’ for some original and limited, obviously, fashion items.

I spied this epic E-CLIPSE ‘Hester’ top on Heidi Volare’s  wonderful ‘The Fashionable Heart’ blog, and zoomed on over to check it out for myself.

Fortunately there are a few left, so I opted for this lovely ‘Terra’ version of the top, which is sort of a cowl-necked jumper and shirt all rolled into one. It’s really lovely; I teamed mine with shorts for a casual look while I romp about in the woods, whereas Heidi opted for a smarter look with hers. Either way it’s a cracking find and very cheap too, so you really ought to go and buy one before they sell out!

DRIFT has released some lovely knit frocks for the Autumn season.

The shape of this dress is one that a number of designers are using in their work at the moment, and I really like what people are doing with it. I’ve seen it Gothed-up courtesy of  SAKIDE, and now it’s been given a lovely warm knit texture, courtesy of DRIFT.  There are five colourways available for this ‘Solid Knit’ dress; I’m sporting the gold knit for this shot taken in the wonderful skybox decorated by Editorial Clarity-Flux, subject of a previous blog post. If you haven’t visited yet you really must!

Incidentally there are matching  and co-ordinating ‘Solid Knit’ leggings available too which may be worn with the dresses or mixed into different outfits.  I’m wearing it with the outstanding  ‘Harley’ hairstyle from TRUTH (please make more styles like this!)  along with the GLAM AFFAIR ‘Vera’ skin which has been getting a LOT of press, and rightly so, because it is simply divine.

Here’s your LM to DRIFT.

During my time in Second Life I’ve managed to collect some lovely Pagan and Wiccan items, and I often like to have an altar display in my home.

Alas so far I haven’t seen any made from mesh, but I do have a favourite, the PD Altar Table (Peculiar Designs By Poppy Teskat), Unfortunately for me, my Altar Table has gone walkabout from my inventory, but I do have a smaller alternative, an Altar Crate, that is just as nifty. It’s a little prim heavy, but really lovely and  I’ve situated it in my Summer House on my land so that I have a ritual space, and yes, it does get used.  It’s a real joy to host  and participate in rituals in Second Life, and places like Sacred Cauldron and Gaia Rising I’m sure will be hosting Samhain celebrations over the coming days.

But the aim of this post is to share a few of my Horrorfest goodies with you. This picture features a number of items  including a fantastic manicure  (a black nail with red, bloodied tips)  and pose from ELEPHANTE POSES.  The pose in particular is very impressive, it’s from a pack called ‘Witchcraft’ and it works perfectly in situ around the altar or cauldron.  The star of this show however is my frock.  It’s called ‘Arachne’ and is from the SENZAFINE  label.  and the Sepia colour-way that I am wearing is the 100% charity donation item, with monies of course going to The Epilepsy Therapy Project.    It’s a scrumptious frock; a beautiful shape with web pattern and faded colour towards the hem. The sleeves are generously cut and fluted, and there’s a range or colours to select from if Sepia isn’t your bag (I’m an Earth-sign, so I like to wear earthy colours in my Witchy workings).  I’m not one for role-play particularly, but I do like to wear something long and flowing when attending a moot in-world, and it strikes me that this dress is the perfect choice.  I don’t know about you, but I am totally impressed by the variety and quality of items featured at Horrorfest this year, it really is proving to be a highlight of a very busy year for events and sales in-world.
