Witchy Wednesday: IDK Neckwear Special

Witchy Wednesday: IDK Neckwear Special

I dunno, you wait around for a blog-post and then you get three in one week? What is the world coming to? <Chuckle> Well, I thought I’d post a very quick ‘Witchy Wednesday’ for you as I haven’t featured one on the blog at all for quite a while now.  Both the items that I’m featuring are necklaces that come with tattoo-style chokers.  They’re both available at the IDK event, and the theme for latest round of is the 1990’s, hence the plethora of choker-style neckwear because you can’t get much more 1990’s than a choker, right?Witchy WednesdayFirst up is the ‘Louise’ choker by DAZED, featuring a pentacle design.  Other symbols are available but this is Witchy Wednesday so is of course the most appropriate choice from the available selection. What I like about this is that you’re not just buying one pentacle, you’re effectively getting four because of the metal change hud that includes, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Black metal options.  It’s simple and effective and just the ticket at a very reasonable L$145.

Witchy Wednesday 2Next we have the ‘See My Neck’ set from TABOU IRISISTIBLE. I really like the fact that you can combine or wear seperately all the necklaces in this package.  You get three necklaces in each pack; the first is the mesh choker, the second has an off-centre eye design and the third is a crystal drop.  There are 4 metal colours available (each of them are sold seperately) but there’s a HUD that enables you to change the colour of your crystal (choose from blue, a deep pink and a yellow tone). This is a great little set and I think I’ll be wearing the necklace featuring the off-centre eye motif quite a look because it’s pretty and quirky, and it costs L$230. Here’s your taxi to IDK! Enjoy!
(Oh, before I go, a few words about my look that I’m rocking in this post because I think I’m looking pretty hot if I do say so myself! The hair that I’m wearing is a group gift from TRUTH and comes complete with an ‘Essentials’ hair-colour HUD. Truth Hawks  isn’t a frequent gift-giver but when he does they’re pretty special, and I think this style is an absolute belter. It’s a tousled, mid length style that can be worn a number of ways but it screams for summer clothes and beachwear.  My eyes are unusual too; they’re a rare item from THE EPIPHANY, which is the latest Gacha event to hit the grid.  It’s a nice event too, although the majority of items were a little too fantasy orientated for my tastes. It looks beautiful though,  and the selling point for the event is that you can redeem your gacha prizes for points which enable you to obtain exclusive items. I love the concept and the location and it’s definitely worth a visit. Click HERE to take a peek! Last but not least my lovely, simple ‘boho’ top is from AMERICAN BEAUTY at the latest round of SHINY SHABBY.  Don’t get me wrong this is a perfectly adequate top; with good texture and styling but I do think at L$200 it’s a bit on the steep side price-wise!)

Kitty Visits: Hogwarts! You’re a Witch Kitty!

Kitty Visits: Hogwarts! You’re a Witch Kitty!

Hogwarts

Well, tell us something we didn’t know eh? <Chuckle> If you’re looking for something absolutely fascinating to visit in-world, and you like all things HARRY POTTER then you’re in for a treat.
In case you aren’t aware there’s an absolutely vibrant roleplay community called MISCHIEF MANAGED in-world, and each year they throw a fantastic fair where you can purchase all kinds of magical items from clothing to jewellery to animals to everything that any aspiring Wizard, Witch or Magician could possibly require.
Last year was a treat of a trip to Diagon Alley, but this year we’ve been cordially invited into Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft & Wizardry itself.   If you haven’t visited before then you’ll be delighted to know that Hogwarts has indeed been built in-world and it looks absolutely astonishing too. Role-play really isn’t my cup of tea at all but I can see why this is one of the most successful ones on the grid;  quite simply it is perfect, from the exterior build of Hogwarts itself into the actual castle which has been carefully constructed to resemble the books (and of course the films) as closely as possible. You can’t help but feel a sense of excitement, if not a little trepidation, as you wander around the halls. I loved every minute of my visit.PicMonkey CollageI also absolutely loved some of the items on sale too; there are Gacha machines galore as well as carefully crafted poses, props and all kinds of wonders  inspired by the film for you to buy. My absolute favourites were the carnivorous plants that feature animations and sound to the touch, but there’s also some stunning wearables from big Second Life names like CAE and KIBITZ, along with the WHITE WIDOW ‘Insidious’ tattoo that I’ve previously blogged and refuse to take off at the moment (because owls!)PicMonkey Collage 2Even if you’re not mad on all things Potter but have love for Witching and Wizardry in general, be assured that you’ll find plenty here to please. I cannot recommend this event enough and who knows, you may find yourself tempted to apply to join the academy? (Details are HERE) Be sure to check this event out before it closes at the end of July, and I hope you enjoy your visit as much as I did!

Kitty In The Kitchy!

Kitty In The Kitchy!

Kitty in the kitchy

I wanted to take a step away from blogging about skins (I’ve written so much about skins recently that I have developed a twitch), but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to tell you about. As I mooched around my skybox thinking of a blog post to write, it suddenly struck me; let me share some details about my virtual home.  I love reading LOVE TO DECORATE so why not share my Kitty-space with my readers?

I’m going to share posts with you about my Skybox over the forthcoming few days.  I’ll tell you how it’s decorated and hopefully show you why I love it so. I’ve lived many different places,  but I always keep this skybox as my super-secret ‘Kitty Lair’. I’ve owned it for a number of years now and the place where it’s ‘moored’ is cheap for rent and out of the way up high in the clouds so that I am nice and secluded and never bothered by neighbours. I’ve lived on the ground until recently too, but I always come back to my skybox because it feels like home. The way this space is decorated and displayed is probably the most authentic representation of my real-life self within the virtual world that is my second home. I absolutely adore it.

The build itself is a BARNESWORTH ANUBIS creation, called ‘NYC Apartment Skybox’. It costs a cheap-as-chips L$400 ion the marketplace, and has a lovely low land-impact of just 30.  It’s incredibly roomy and open-plan which makes for lots of fun when decorating. I have loads of skyboxes in my inventory but this one suits me perfectly, and I always come back to it. My only wish would be for perhaps an extra couple of rooms (or even a second level) but that’s not something that I am in desperate need of, just a dream that I file under ‘Nice-to-have’. Like all Barnesworth’s builds,  it’s beautifully textured and the details are absolutely perfect. Oh, and because it’s a New York City apartment the view out of the windows is of the great city itself a place I will visit one day, but for now my skybox will have to suffice.

As you walk in the first thing you see is a large space with a kitchen clearly visible. Which is funny because the big tiled space is actually designated as a bathroom BUT for me it screamed out for a glorious kitchen and some suitably fancy decoration, which is just what I added. I have TWO favourite kitchens in Second Life. They are the BAZAR ‘Toronto Kitchen’ because of the modular options and ability to adapt it to many different designs, and this TROMPE LOEIL  ‘Retro’ number.  I’ve never had any issues fitting and adapting this to suit my needs. It’s absolutely perfect with a 1950’s feel and the animations that are incorporated make for some great photo opportunities.

Obviously, my thing is cats both in RL and SL. That’s no different in my skybox either, and as soon as you enter you’re surrounded by cats of every shape and size; some decorative, others who live with me. The kitchen space is no different, in fact,  I used the TROMPE LOEIL kitchen cabinets to house my precious SCHADENFREUDE Chibi Cats collection. There are also four FASHIONABLY DEAD cats mooching around in the space, but that’s because I keep my HALF DEER litter tray and food bowls here too.
The window above my kitchen cabinets lets in much-needed light to illuminate the area but is also the ideal spot to grow a few culinary herbs too! This is where my ORGANICA’Hanging Bamboo Herb Planter’ really comes into its own. At night,  the kitchen is illuminated by my ‘Addison’ chandeliers in Red by MUDHONEY. I love the shape and simplicity of these, and rather than just having one I decided to be super decadent and have four in my kitchen. Their colour brings the fiery red elements of the kitchen together perfectly and blends beautifully with my ‘Gerzzo’ chairs and table from THE LOFT which extend the retro vibe.

In the Kitchen

I decorate my kitchen according to the season; sometimes I have pots of warming soup boiling on the stove, or enormous pizzas bursting out of the box ready to be devoured. I use gacha prizes to decorate and bring the kitchen to life, and I’m rocking a pile of dirty dishes from HODGEPODGE next to my sink. My favourite Vice Jars from COMMONER have pride of place next to a brilliant animated BITTER VANILLA cutting board, which has a number of fruits, vegetables and breads available for selection. You’ll also spy a few items from NYLON PINKNEY (‘Sleepy Cat Pot’ in Red and CopyCat Art ‘Feed Me’ poster) along with a fabulous Industrial Baker’s Rack from SECOND SPACES that I’ve added a few pieces to. I have a great ‘Kitchen Element Sign’ in Red from CASITA opposite the most important part of the kitchen; the place where I make my frequent cups of tea and indulge in my favourite snack of hot, buttered toast. I love my ‘Gerzzo’ kettle (another THE LOFT creation)  and my TARTESSOS ARTS animated toaster which pops the toast out in a violent manner similar to the till in ‘Open All Hours’ (British comedy, utterly brilliant). My favourite thing in this corner has to be my LARK ‘Teafor2’ embroidery though; it’s just so perfectly done and looks so sweet in the corner.

I serve my tea from a BEACH STREET Tardis tea-pot into NOODLES Doctor Who style mugs, gazing over at my wall art. It’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ from IONIC, a very old acquisition which I retextured to fit in with the theme of my kitchen, and it just works perfectly.

Last but not least my virtual day is accompanied by a soundtrack of tunes belting out from my SOY Vintage Boom Box, stowed away in the corner out of harm’s way ( I got fed up of the cats jumping up and knocking it flying!) So there you have it, my virtual kitchen. It’s the centre of my home and I absolutely love it, so if you’ll excuse me I have a pile of dirty dishes to wash, kitties to feed and brews to be made. Fancy a cuppa?

Why not share the details of your Second Life home or specific rooms that you love?  I’ll feature the rest of my home over the forthcoming days..stay tuned!

SKIN FAIR 2015 – Random Matter ‘Ashri’

SKIN FAIR 2015 – Random Matter ‘Ashri’

bounce_005

If I’ve said it before, I’ve said it a million times;  makeup layers in Second Life are only super effective if you have a good base to start with. Random Matter’s ‘Ashri provides not just a great base, but by gum it’s a lovely skin to wear too. I’d actually say that Ashri is one of those skins that don’t have the mass market appeal of some other skin brands on the grid, BUT before you read any further into that let me reassure you that is NOT a criticism. If anything, it’s a compliment. Ashri has a look about her that is unique, alternative and different to most of the other skins that I’ve worn thus far, but make no mistake, she’s beautiful and super-adaptable.
First of all, the skin tone. I opted for ‘Porcelain’, which is a shade that is usually too pale for me to sport every day in the metaverse but the way that Nikohl Hax has crafted this base makes me question my Second Life choices. Seriously it’s a beautiful skin colour. (Zoom in on the picture above, I’ve done nothing to it other than crop it down!)You absolutely MUST try this one in world because you’ll only see the effect when you’re wearing her but as tones go she is one of the best I’ve seen at Skin Fair 2015. It is very hard to put it into words but there’s a luminescence about this shade that just sings off the screen. It’s easy for a pale colour to look very ‘flat’ on an avatar, and some creators have never quite got that right. Nikohl could teach them a lesson or two, because her shading takes nothing away from the base tone yet enhances, brightens and illuminates in all the right places. When Ashri is applied to a mesh body boy does she work perfectly.  I mean the back of her legs, the crease of her knees even has definition and lighting and her legs look amazing as a result.  There’s thought gone into this creation; check out the enhancement on her temple. I mean look! There’s shading there, somewhere that most skin makers leave out completely. It’s a revelation.  Incidentally, Ashri is a great skin to sport when nude and I’m pleased to say that you don’t really notice the neck seam on this one at all.  Never mind Second Life, I want to have my pasty white skin this colour in real life!  This is a skin that you can play about with and really enjoy. And here’s a thing- I got real hints of  celebrity whilst I was styling her on my avatar. See what I mean?

The above shot makes me think of Dakota Fanning.  The one below?

weds_003

I get serious Michelle Pfeiffer vibes off this look!  In fact, and I hate to say it but the words are going to have to be said, this skin makes me think all kinds of alternative/hipster chic, if there is such a thing.  Coupled with PXL Sweet Lips (Yes, Random Matter has appliers, how awesome is that?!) you really can get that look. And what a look it is. So much FUN!  Back to my comment about makeup. Because of the way that Ashri’s face has been created she makes an outstanding base upon which to add eyeliner, lipstick and eyeshadow layers. She looks ruddy stunning as is, with her delicately colour-washed eyelids and hint of blush on her cheeks, but she really does offer you endless possibilities when you throw the contents of your virtual makeup bag into the mix.  I’ve tried her with different brows and with different looks and loved every single one.  Here are a few below to give you an idea of what I mean:

Layers on the look

Of course, Random Matter has their own range of epic makeups to choose from too (click HERE to see what I mean!) so you’re never going to be short of ideas. And if you do run short of them you really should check out the website because it’s great; jam-packed with alternative stylings the like of which this Kitty really approves. Nikohl makes mean Jewellery and accessories too, which is what you’d expect from someone so talented (She’s in college full time for Graphic Design/Game Art.) Impressive no?

You’ll find Ashri at SKIN FAIR SIM 1, booth 53 (it’s on the top level).  Ashri can be purchased in Cream, Porcelain or Ivory tones.  There are 4 system lip colour options included in the pack (Base, Coral, Nude and Peach) and you can also purchase appliers for Sweet Lips, Loud Mouth, Nyam Nyam or Kissers. In each pack you’ll find base skins with Black, Blonde, Brown, Red or No Brow (woot!) options. There’s also a brow kit on sale for L$50, and they’re well worth treating yourself to! Incidentally,  this is another skin creation that doesn’t cost the earth (yet it feels like it should). Each tone costs L$600 per pack. Mouth appliers are just L$50 a throw, and body appliers for Slink, Physique, Maitreya Belleza AND Lolas are just L$50 each as well. It’s a bloody bargain yet it shouldn’t be, these are quality skins that deserve to be twice the price.  Luckily for us, they aren’t, and I insist that you buy them all.  Congratulations Nikohl, and well done for creating such a glorious skin. I’m loving her versatility and quirkiness, what a corker!
