LOTD – Lazy Kitty Cafe Culture

FAMESHED has started, and as usual it’s an absolute bugger to get in. However I *did* manage a nosey around earlier and as usual there are some cracking items on display, including hair, clothing, furniture and all of it is guaranteed to enhance your allure and make you even more windswept and interesting than ever, if such a thing is possible.

I only bought ONE item though, and that is this hair from EEP. I really, really love Eep hair. Ever since the brand launched it’s been a firm favourite of mine, and it seems to thrive on producing simple styles in great colours with no frills, fuss or palaver. Unbox it, stick it on your head and job done, you can’t ask for much else really can you?

I also found a really nice lace vest today at a store called CHEMISTRY that I have never frequented before, but I will be visiting again!  This mesh vest comes in a two pack featuring a black and white lace design, and it really fits in with my look at the moment, which is basically throw everything on that is in my inventory and see what sticks.

I am STILL wearing these frayed denim shorts that cost me just ONE LINDEN from the market place, but I care not a jot because they work amazingly well with my KHUSH tights (mo longer available alas)  They also reallu look good with my Kitten-face Mary Janes from FRI.DAY for LOVE DONNA FLORA. These are actually an in-world replica of a pair of shoes that I have been after in RL for ages. As usual, Second Life means I get them a lot cheaper, and quicker, than my reality.

Last but not least there are two more items in my look from LOVE DONNA FLORA. First up is my flair manicure, which I’m wearing in a very bright pink which is very unusual for me but it looks really funky against my collection of friendship bracelets.  I’m also sporting a necklace by CAE that you can only find at the LOVE DONNA FLORA  event. I’m really enamoured by CAE at the moment, the Catnip necklace that they created for Harlow Heslop’s ‘Avatars For Animals’ event  became an instant favourite of mine, and this elegant daisy design is just as delightful and perfect for jazzing up either a formal or casual outfit.

Finally, I was in dire need of a coffee and a sit down so found myself at the café at Scribbled Hearts, which is a very pretty little sim offering some cracking photo opportunities and a lot of places to chill out and relax. (Plenty of places to enjoy by yourself or as a couple, i found a fab hammock that was just begging me to lay and stargaze on it..)

Love Donna Flora

Love Donna Flora

Furniture by Kaerri available at the Love Donna Flora event.

Donna Flora is one of those brands that has achieved an almost legendary status in Second Life. That’s an honour that’s awarded to very few creators, yet the designer behind the brand, Squinternet Larnia, rightfully achieved such recognition years ago. She’s well known not only for her work, but also for her generosity of spirit too.

You only have to visit the main-store to see why Squinternet is so deserving of the high praise that her designs generate. She is THE creator of classical elegance In Second Life; taking breathtaking dress designs from a bygone age and embellishing them with a modern twist. But for me, it’s her jewellery designs that really single Squinternet out as being someone special. Her work is ornate, carefully crafted and totally unique in a virtual world where all too often you encounter duplicated designs.

There is nothing in our metaverse quite like Donna Flora.

Squinternet’s voice speaks to us through her designs and has captivated us all, and now it’s time for us to give something back to someone who has given us so much to enjoy.

Although I haven’t had the privilege of meeting Squinternet Larnia, I do know I have never seen such an immediate response to a call for help before, either in Second Life or reality.Squinternet is evidently loved and admired by many residents of the metaverse, all of whom are willing her to be well, and are happy to do whatever it takes to try and help her achieve that goal. In Second Life’s case, that’s raising funds.

The ever-awesome Cajsa Lilliehook put out the call and it was answered. The Love Donna Flora event was created, and the enthusiasm that greeted the development of this occasion was so fierce it was practically tangible. On Plurk the offers of help from creators, bloggers and all areas of Second Life gathered serious momentum over a very short period of time and it was pretty astonishing to witness. (I wish the media would see Second Life for the great things that it does like this, rather than for the salacious stories that the mass media is so intent on running.)

But no matter; the sole aim of this event is to let Squinternet know that the Second Life community love her, miss her and want her to be as well and as comfortable as she possibly can be.

The intention is that the funds raised by this event will go towards supporting Squinternet in whatever way she she needs, be that nursing care or holistic therapy. I sincerely hope the event raises a shit-load of cash for her to use towards her treatment. And I genuinely think it will, because so many designers have contributed items to the event with generous donations going straight to the cause.

So readers, please go and visit this amazing event. If you prefer, check out the Seraphim image gallery to see what is in store, and then TP to the event.

Buy as much as you can*, donate as much as you can, and know that when you do the funds will go towards helping someone very special indeed.

We’re with you Squinternet Larnia.

Love Donna Flora Forever ❤

Kitty Goes RAVING!!!! (Again!)

Kitty Goes RAVING!!!! (Again!)

So the Pet Shop Boys ‘Electric album came out this week, and it’s getting rave reviews. I utterly adore it, but there’s one track in particular that really resonates with me…

The track ‘Vocal’ features a video compiled of footage taken at early 1990’s raves. You know it’s 25 years since the second Summer Of Love? Scary, really scary. Anyway, to celebrate the album and the fact that I found the most amazing dreddy hair at Hair Fair 2013 I constructed this New-Rave look:

Incidentally, I’m wearing an item from the ‘LOVE DONNA FLORA’ event which I’ll be blogging this week, and it promises to be quite an event. You can read here to find out what it’s all about.

Oh, and to accompany this look I made a playlist; a mix of old and new dance tracks to enjoy:)Top one nice one get sorted!

Let’s Hear It For The Boys!

Let’s Hear It For The Boys!

BOY

I created a group in SL a while ago called ‘Pet Shop Boys Fans In Second Life’ (Yes, I was up all night thinking of the name) and I *VERY* occasionally send notices out to it. I don’t like sending out lots of notices because I know how ruddy annoying it is to be bombarded by them, but I do have good reason to at the moment.

My beloved boys release their latest album, ‘Electric’ on Monday (Click HERE for an exclusive album stream!) and it is bang-tidy as we say around these ‘ere parts.  It features lots of retro sounds teamed with disco beats and embellished with  Neil’s splendid lyrics.  It’s a tour de force and is attracting a lot of attention.

The BBC is devoting a lot of air-time to the boys too.Tonight, Friday 12th July, they’re featuring on not one, but two of the network’s leading stations.

At 19:15 BST they’re going to be appearing on ‘Front Row’, BBC Radio Four’s  esteemed art and culture review. Then at 22:00 BST BBC Radio 6Music will play a two-hour mix of music chosen by the boys.  (Incidentally, they were featured on Dave Pearce’s Dance Years on the same station last week, you can still listen to the show by clicking HERE)

In honour of my beloved boys I was a bit naughty today and purchased a pair of leggings from the Fi*Friday event featuring the infamous ‘Boy’ logo, which was a brand synonymous with the PSB’s in the late 1980’s. (The reason I say I was a bit naughty is because, well, let’s be honest here, this label is a trademark and by duplicating it in world without permission that trademark is clearly being infringed. Of course I’m guessing here, but  I doubt very much that the creators sought permission before using it, although I’d love them to prove me wrong on that.  I’m not going to get into a huge argument here about copyright but suffice to say I don’t normally buy items with labels that are clearly sourced from real life. However I made an exception here because I was desperate to have them. I’m being honest and I’m sure we’ve all got these kinds of items in our inventory, either accidentally or deliberately)  To be frank they’re pretty bog standard as leggings go as well, they aren’t mesh and the seams don’t match so I didn’t really mind splashing out the princely sum of L$55 to acquire them.

However I teamed them with something that I am really VERY impressed by, and that is today’s outstanding Fifty Linden Friday offering from Deco. This ‘Survivalist’ coat is mesh and really looks the part. It features good texturing (although sadly the zip texture is a bit blurry in parts, but that’s more to with my PC and the limitations of Second Life than any poor performance on the creator’s part), but it’s the shape that really wins it for me.  I love the way this jacket has been built, love the upright collar and pocket styling and the fit is absolutely spot on. To be perfectly honest I think I look pretty chuffing awesome in it.  You’ll find the jacket is available for both male and female avatars and is the bargain of the week at just L$50.

Incidentally this week’s Fifty Linden Friday is rather good.  Lots of nice items included including this Deco jacket and a gorgeous wee vase from Schadenfreude.  It’s called ‘Tree Vase with Apple Blossoms’ and comes with a Hud so you change the colours of the petals, vase and stem.  It looks amazeballs in my kitchen!(It’s on the left, all co-ordinated like)

Finally the pose I’m striking in this picture is another FLF from oOo Studio. A pose set called ‘Katrina’ including five poses, four with mirrors and one specifically tailored towards both mesh and system hands.  The poses are great, very expressive and subtly suggestive of movement and an essential purchase if you enjoy taking modelling shots.

Oh and another quick word regarding Fi*Friday, I am also wearing some fabulous make up from KoKoLoRes.  I treated myself to the ‘Lustre Lips’, the ‘Eyeliner collection’ and the fabulous ‘Nails Nails Nails!’ set. I’ve layered it over the FLF Belleza Jade skin from last week’s round and taken a picture below so you can see the subtle changes these tattoo layers have made, look great don’t they?

Anyway, be off with you.  The Pet Shop Boys will be on soon and I don’t want to miss listening in. Look, you know where the kitchen is, go and make a brew or something, OK?
