More Fabulous finds from THE MESH BODY ADDICTS FAIR

sandals_008Another day, another pair of new shoes from THE MESH BODY ADDICTS FAIR.  Like the ESSENZ pair that I was sporting yesterday these G&D ‘Roma’ Sandals are a lovely, well-textured pair of heels that are easy to dress up or down. PicMonkey Collage

I’ve never been a blogger who was fixated on shoes in world but in recent months I’ve become very enamoured with them.  I think this is because increasing number of shoe designers are starting to realise that there’s more to a pair of virtual heels than a texture and a bit of shine.  As I wrote yesterday, you want a bit of substance from your virtual footwear, and the more authentic looking the better. That’s why I’m starting to pay more attention  to footwear in-world, and this pair are really worth taking time to look over and look great dressed up or dressed down, which is precisely what I’ve done with them.

I’ve teamed them with two more items from THE MESH BODY ADDICTS FAIR; first of all are these rather dandy pants from MODULUS.  I love the baggy worn-in feeling on these, and rather cheekily they do show a wee bit of your butt at the back! They ride low and feature worn patches on the shin; if you zoom in you can see that the fabric pattern is similar to that which is conventionally used to make a bandana.

Up top I’m wearing, well, not very much really! <Chuckle> I realised the chevron pattern from the watch that I was wearing yesterday was similar to the one on this bikini from VIVI which is my final item for today from THE MESH BODY ADDICTS FAIR and I think it works really well when worn as a top, don’t you? It’s not overly fussy but adds a welcome splash of colour to the rest of my outfit, and the pattern has been applied well.

Last but not least is my hairstyle which is an absolute corker.  LITTLE BONES have released a couple of styles at FAMESHED this month, and I’m sporting this one in the ‘Landslide’ colour-set.  It’s a side-swept style with oomph and it is absolutely beautiful.  I never thought I’d be as into the longer styles as I am these days, but I lay the blame firmly at Nova Faerye’s door.  Her work is astonishing and there’s a reason that LITTLE BONES has become such an iconic brand in-world. Love it!sandals_006Right, time to get my shoes on and head on out the door.  I still have blisters from my trip yesterday, but I will soldier on.  Wanna come shopping? Here’s your list!

February’s Collabor88 has landed and as you would expect it’s a bit of a corker.

Every month when I eventually get in to the Sim I always have the same thought, “They’ll never better this round”, and guess what? The following month they do just that.

I know a lot of people are unhappy at the moment and vocalising loudly that events are taking interest away from individual stores and content creators and that there are too many of them. I can see why they would be so alarmed, especially when you consider that every time you try to get into C88 you’re unable to because of the sheer volume of avatar traffic.  Perhaps there are too many events but not every one is quality, featuring original and inspired content.  I’ve no doubt the less professional events will eventually fall by the way-side leaving room for even better ones to take their place, but the harsh fact is that quality events will always bring in an audience, and  regular events such as C88, Fameshed  The Liasion Collaborative and The Mens Dept certainly have dedicated fans who eagerly await the new releases each month with baited breath.  And it’s no wonder, because they are excellent .

This month the theme is Supernova, and you can expect to be faced with an intergalactic explosion of colour and style when you eventually manage to get into the event. There’s a sensational array of clothing, hair, skins and furniture as well as accessories and jewellery all ready to be drooled over, with all the items meeting the space-age brief in an original and exciting way.

For my look of the day I’ve mixed a couple of C88 finds with some old classics from my inventory.  I’m wearing an old favourite of mine, the ERRATIC Cory Oversized Sweater, and I’ve teamed it with the absolutely out-of-this-world  ‘Nebula Leggings’ by NYLON OUTFITTERS.  I’m always excited to see what Nylon Pinkney has contributed to C88. She has an original, quirky style, and it mixes in really easily with more conventional pieces to help you create a totally individual look. It’s effortless but really effective styling. To complete this ensemble,  I’m wearing just one piece of jewellery, but it sure makes a statement and brings the look together. It’s the ‘Galactic Necklace’ from PILOT.  I really like the fact that this pendant features an animated, swirling galaxy and like every one of Kaz Nayar’s creations it’s expertly crafted.

I’m also wearing the BELLEZA ‘Ria’ skin here, from the last round of C88, although at first glance you may not recognize it. That’s because I’ve been really cheeky  and added some tattoo make-up layers, in this case from the IZZIE’S ‘Asia’ range of eyeshadows and lipsticks. Last but not least I found an old hairstyle in my inventory that I had completely forgotten that I had from EXILE.

I’m really pleased with this look, I hope you find some space-age  inspiration at Collabor88  this month too!

FAMESHED: Bugger it, I’m off to the Pub..

ImageFAMESHED has hit the grid in a new year’s frenzy of fabulous fashion and striking furnishings and accessories. There is a great selection of items to lust after, including some stunning VALENTINA E fashions and the fantastic ‘Starry Starry Night Bangles’ from MAXI GOSSAMER, but my big favourites this month aren’t wearables.

First up we have TROMPE LOEIL (or Trumpy LOL in kitty-speak) raising the bar (geddit?) with the absolutely stunning ‘The Dragon And Orchid Home Pub’, and now that this exists I simply won’t tolerate shitty bars anymore, so can we get rid of them please? Sure, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting some beauties, but they’re few and far-between. Sadly, Second Life bars tend towards a textured backdrop (usually an appalling out-of-focus photograph of bottles and beers) and a simple rectangular bar. Bonus points if it’s textured in the crappiest woodgrain ever…urgh. Well no more! Begone to the depths of hell with your sticky bars and even stickier carpets!

ImageCast your eyes over this beauty. This, my friends, is ‘The Dragon And Orchid Home Pub’ and it’s probably one of the nicest places you’ll find on the grid where you can eat your dry-roasted peanuts and indulge in a lovely pint or two in absolute comfort.

It’s available in three glorious shades; Amaretto, Dark (with Adult animations) and Redwood. Each one of the wood textures is gorgeous and incredibly expensive looking, but it’s the build that really tells the tale. It really does evoke a proper bar, with a perfect shape and enhanced by beams and beading with ample room for leaning and chatting up the barmaid of an evening. You’ll also receive a beer pump and there is ample storage space behind the bar so that you can accessorise and decorate to truly make this bar your own.

To make this even more special there are a selection of stained glass window sets to choose from so that you can choose the most fitting design for your space. But that’s not all; Cory and Makaio have of course proved time and time again that thoughtful design is their modus operandi and this is demonstrated by their including a template enabling you to craft your own stained glass inserts for your bar. What a great touch!

There are 24 animated poses to enjoy too (plus ten Adult poses in the A-rated version) and there are eleven more poses in the included bar stools meaning you can have lots of fun drinking and getting up to all sorts of pub-style shenanigans. There are a number of particularly amusing poses that hint at your being ever-so-slightly drunk; my own personal favourite being ‘Numb’ (alas, I’ve been there too many times!) but the stool-poses are just as worthwhile. (I really like ‘Observe’, for those moments when you’re happy to people-watch by the bar.) Of course, all these poses make this a great environment for taking photos with friends, and this is a build that really does have a great ambience to it. Add a Juke Box, a dartboard and you’ve got your very own home pub and will be the envy of all your buddies!  It’s a corking investment and worthy of belonging in every home on the grid-go and get one!

As for me? I’m the one with the funny expression leaning in an awkward manner against a bar-stool. The room’s spinning a wee bit. No, I’m OK..don’t move. No, I’ll be fine. Yes, actually  a bucket might be a good idea…

The Dragon & Orchid Home Pub is exclusive to FAMESHED January 2014 and available in these options:

  • Standard (Amaretto & Redwood) includes 24 animated poses.  Stool has 11 poses. 4 standard stained glass window sets included via menu plus template for your own glass inserts. Unscripted props such as bottles also included. Mesh.  Materials enabled. L$550.
  • Adult (Dark ‘A’) as above but also includes an additional 10 animated adult poses. L$1100

Horrorfest 2013: Spooky Fashions That Work All Year Round..

Halloween may be over, but  Horrorfest 2013 is still going strong and raising lots of lovely cash for The Epilepsy Therapy Project.  The event doesn’t finish until November 8th, and I urge you to go if you haven’t visited yet.

Of course, now that the Samhain season has passed, you may be feeling that the time for buying the spooky wares on display has ended, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Many of the items have lasting appeal and can be adapted to suit different looks and outfits. Here is a couple of examples to get you going. In the picture above I’m sporting the FRI.DAY ‘Raven’ hood while I enjoy an Autumnal jaunt in the woods. I’ve slipped it over the COQUET ‘Miranda’ frock that I picked up at this round of FAMESHED, but you can add it to a variety of outfits and it remains really effective. Of course, you can wear it as part of a role-play set-up too; add a quiver of arrows, and you’re well on your way to evoking the spirit of a famous woodland outlaw.

Here’s another example; I added my DRD ‘Skeletonhands’ necklace to a jumper by ERRATIC and some leggings from NYLON OUTFITTERS to conjure up a spooky everyday look that works whatever the season.

Snapshot_004What I’m trying to get across here is that even though the theme may be Horror, it doesn’t have to be restricted to October and the darker months of the year; in Second Life anything goes after all!

Taxi to Horrorfest 2013? Here you go..
